3 out of 5 eggsok card

Pros: Cheap card.

Cons: Software RAID. If you run Windows or some other supported OS, this might be ok if you are really on a budget.

Other Thoughts: I wanted RAID card for ESXi. This is not supported. Returned the card for an Adaptec 640E that is the bomb.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

Since Marvell chipset do not have a supported RAID driver for ESXI, the card will not be able to recognize the RAID array created in the BIOS of the card.

However, it will still support ESXI as a normal SATA controller.

Thank you for leaving us your valuable feedback.

Regards, SYBA CST 12182013

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: Plugged in card, drives, control-m to the BIOS. Win 7 x64. Located drives, RAID 0, no issues. I have no idea what everyone is complaining about: took 2 boots to setup the raid (I didn't know about control-m).

Cons: None as far as I can tell. Thing just works great.

Other Thoughts: Setup 2 SSD 128GB SATA III in RAID 0. Works great. Was worried based on other feedback but come on: 5 minutes and I'm done.

Only recommendation: longer SATA cables. Unit only come with 1. Buy a longer second cable for RAID. Also, check for proper power for drives (nothing to do with RAID card).

5 out of 5 eggsEffective device

Pros: Does exactly what was indicated. Easy installation. Nearly adequate instructions.

Cons: As indicated, the instructions are "nearly adequate". There were some options for setting up the raid that could have used some elicudation. Nothing exhaustive, but it would have been nice to have some information about what things like stripe size effects, etc.

Other Thoughts: This was an inexpensive, effective, and easy solution to the problem I was having with setting up raid array in my computer, independant of my OS SSD. I tried this with SYBAUSA's PEX40052 and that was a complete failure. Having said that, I felt that the company REALLY tried to help in that instance so I decided to try another of their products and am glad that I did.

I have not attempted to test the raid for throughput yet. I just know it is set up and appears to be working. The testing will come soon.

4 out of 5 eggsSimple and works

Pros: Simple, puts limited PCI-Express x1 interface to good use. Not built for speed, but adds 2 SATA ports to a small computer.

Cons: Documentation is light, but it's pretty much plug-in-play with the right OS. Didn't really need any :-)

Other Thoughts: Using in an 8TB FreeBSD 9.0 ZFS storage server - installation found drivers instantly. Can be used for boot device and/or ZFS formatted device. Formatted disks can be moved between SYBA and Motherboard ports (no proprietary partitions or headers added). Note: x1 interface can't saturate two drives, so I used one port for boot, since it has limited activity in a storage server.

1 out of 5 eggs2 wks - Still can't get to work

Pros: Easy to physically install and tech support did respond.

Cons: Won't create virtual disk, using 2 brand new, identical, WD green 2TB drives. Still waiting on tech support to offer suggestions/solutions.

Other Thoughts: At this point I've already mounted both drives to the on-board SATA controller, and am using robocopy to keep the driver mirrored. Poor man's RAID 1!

1 out of 5 eggs:( Very poor quality

Pros: none

Cons: I installed it like the instructions said and it took a good 5 mins to initialize and would only pick up 1 harddrive.
tried diff harddrives same result. tried it in a diff PC and that PC wouldn't even boot with with this card

Other Thoughts: I would avoid this like the plague. Maybe the card is very picky with the boards it works in or something but my 2 PC's did not like it. I'm giving this 1 egg, but please
understand this is not newegg's fault
