SYBA SY-PEX40038 PCI-Express 2.0 SATA III (6.0Gb/s) Controller Card

Pros: Works as port multiplier and recognizes four drives individually.

Cons: Manufacturer states that no cable can be connected to the card during boot up other wise it will not boot into Windows. I had this very problem. If I boot into Windows and then I connect the cable, it will see all the drives. Very inconvenient to have to unplug the cable every time.

You should be able to connect an external HDD to this card during boot and not have any problems.

However, if you did not setup the BIOS boot priority correctly to select which Drive to boot first. The external HDD connected to this card might create a problem during boot up if it does not have an Operating System installed on it/not the drive you want to boot to.

Pros: Port multiplier does work after you install drives.

Cons: You can see the manufacturer's response in one of the reviews, you cannot have any devices attached during the boot up process. This kind of makes it very inconvenient to have to disconnect and reconnect the cable if the computer restarts.

This card has no problem booting with drives attached. Perhaps you did not setup your BIOS correctly to be configured for your specific setup.

Pros: None

Cons: The card was supposed to handle port multiplier. Not so. Contacted Syba and their rep said that the MB needs that capability also. The specs do not indicate that fact. Wanted the poard to handle that problem since the esata ports on the MB do not handle that situation. Also the board only saw one of thetwo ports on my BlacX box.

Please contact us again. This card does not require port multiplier on your motherboard. However, the enclosrue you connected to this card might requires extra port multiplier functions which our card lakes.

If your system can only see one port on our card, the card is not installed correctly (or, error free) Make sure the driver you installed matches the Windows version that you have.

Before you contact us again, please do the following:
1. Find the web link to your enclosure and forward to our technical support
2. Give us the Windows version
3. Test the enclosure with just one HD in it
4. If there is a switch to turn on/off multiple HD, turn it to single HD mode. Make sure our card works with your enclosure in single HD mode
5. Install our card in a different PCI-e slot

Pros: Two extra eSATA ports, are very handy to have, and they work flawlessly. Adds less than two seconds to boot process, with or without a device present.

Cons: The product gets four stars for the overly technically instruction pamphlet scaring the daylights out of me.

Other Thoughts: When I first plugged this card in, the OS and BIOS saw nothing. However after I downloaded the 64 bit driver, the card was immediately recognized, and works flawlessly. If you have Win 7 64bit OS, just toss the instructions, plug it into PCI Express socket, download and load the latest drivers, and presto two more eSATA ports.

Pros: None

Cons: Plugged into M/B ... connected external drive ... PC goes into a continuous reboot loop.
Tech service no help ... says external drive should not be powered during boot ...
Now is that a solution?.

Other Thoughts: Bad card ... or dumb tech ... not sure which or both.
