1 out of 5 eggsSYBA Marvel 9125 based SATA controller

Pros: Cheap, if it works

Cons: Junk. Shipped without a bios installed on it. Tried it in multiple machines and got same result. Would display text saying "BIOS Upgrade in progress, do not power off" Mind you this is prior to POST completing. Let it set that way for three hours hoping POST would complete, but it never did. Again I say junk. Also this device is incompatible with ASUS Rampage motherboards with built in Marvel 9123 SATA controllers.

Other Thoughts: Bought it to work with a MAC 5bay SATA port multiplier that only seems to work with Marvel 912X chipsets. Never even got that far as to test if it worked, however I did do a bit of research on this. This has a 9125 chipset for the SATA controllers and a 9128 for the PATA controller, both which are supported by Linux.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Plugged it in and it worked. Drivers auto-installed.

Cons: Can't think of any.

Other Thoughts: Dell Optiplex XE2, Windows 8.1 Pro. I needed eSata ports since the system itself didn't come with any.

2 out of 5 eggsNo UEFI Booting

Pros: It has IDE and eSATA

Cons: The whole point in me buying this card to was to attach a DVD drive to it to boot. Unfortunately the card lacks the proper OROM/firmware so you are unable to boot in UEFI mode, and if you can't boot in UEFI, than for instance you can't install Windows properly with UEFI with the install CD.

4 out of 5 eggsLove this card!!

Pros: Works OOB on my older Hackint0sh build with OS X 10.9.2 Mavericks on my trusty Abit Ab9 QuadGT mobo. Apple is slowly phasing out eSATA support in favor of USB 3.0 which older mobos like mine do not support.

I hope to add a PCIe USB 3 card, but my mobo only has a single PCIe 1x slot and I worry what will happen when I add the USB 3 card to the second (currently unused) PCIe 16x slot. I don't use this rig for gaming, and I don't have a supper crazy graphics card, but I would like it to work at its max capacity.

The SYBA card also works well in Win 7 32-Bit. not Tested on Win7-64 but expect similar performance after installing the included drivers.

As a bonus, the driver CD includes drivers for a number of different SATA/ATA controllers. I hope to try these included drivers to try to get my mobo's onboard JMicron JM363 SATA controller to work under Mavericks. The stock Apple SATA driver recognize the JMicron controller, but can't see anything attached to same. OSX 10.7.5 seems to recognize the WD My Book, but asks for it to be "initialized' / reformatted. When I attempt a format in Disk Utility, the operation fails and the data already on the drive remains intact,.

At this point the onboard JMicron controller remains unused and I have disabled it in the BIOS.

I hardly need it tho given the performance and ease of installation of the SYBA card.

Cons: None for the SYBA card.

Other Thoughts: Bought this to provide eSATA support to my newer Hackint0sh build that comes only with USB 3.0 built in. Had tried for weeks to get the onboard JMicoron JM 363 eSATA controller to function with Mavericks and hosed my system 6 or 7 times in the process. After stepping away from all this for a few days I thought I'd try the SYBA card on my old build just to see what would happen. (My new build is still a work in progress) To my delight it worked immediately, recognizing my WD MyBook as a removable HD and giving me 3 MB/sec connection speeds, the max supported by my older mobo.

I am very pleased, and since it only costs $25, I really don't mind buying 1 of these for each of my future builds as I have a number of eSATA enclosures and am not ready to give up on the technology.

Would give 5/5 eggs, but I feel I haven't used the card long enough to warrant that.
