1 out of 5 eggsAvoid - OS disaster is near.

Pros: When an Intel SSD is connected to this controller, it is recognized by the Intel SSD Toolbox and TRIM is possible.

Cons: The cons are really about the Marvell chip, not the Syba board. One problem is boot time is no longer 5 seconds, but 35 seconds, because this chip requires a new utility "boot controller." This means the computer must search twice for the boot drive, and this new process takes more than twice as long as before. The second problem is when I ran the Intel SSD Toolbox TRIM for a new series 530 SSD, the Toolbox froze for 30 seconds or so. I had never seen this behavior before, nor do I want to see it again. The third problem is when I would launch Lightroom or Photoshop CC, the computer would do nothing for 30 seconds or so, and then finally lauch the app. These problems convinced me that I did not want to live with these strange behaviors and annoyances. Well, then things got worse, really worse. I uninstalled the "Marvell Unify Configuration" driver under System Devices, shut down, and removed the card. When I booted the computer Windows must have thought that it had been "severely violated" because it went into an automatic repair process. It appears as if Windows reverted to its last known good state. However, the Marvell utility must have had tentacles deep into the delicate parts of the Windows OS because it was a mere shadow of its former self. For example, almost all of my Adobe apps was gone and Adobe Cloud would neither lauch nor reinstall. Other apps were in a similar condition. This meant start over; reinstall Windows 7.

Other Thoughts: If you want to add a Raid and you know exactly what you are getting into, and you NEVER want to uninstall this card (and Marvell chip), then go ahead - you have been notified of the possible problems. However, if you just want to add two SSDs to your system (JBOD) and have the SSDs read and write at 5Gb/s (near SATA 3 speeds), then don't even think about adding this Marvell chip and card to a PCIe slot. Just go have a root canal , you will enjoy it more.

4 out of 5 eggsdecent basic performance

Pros: Decent pciEx1 card for adding 2 internal and 2 eSata ports. Marvell 92xx chipset based. All four ports available simultaneously. Not diffcult installing and using for boot drive in WinXP Pro sp3, however driver support is minimal read on...

Cons: Needs better drivers - F6 floppy raid driver does not work, therefore cannot boot to recovery console at all period. BSOD when attempting to load recovery console without additional scsi driver. Hopefully Marvell will provide a better driver soon, this is a newish product.

Other Thoughts: It works and the features are good at this price.
