5 out of 5 eggsBest Controller Card

Pros: How can you get better than working every time. Easy to install and easy to use. Great way to add additional drive in older system.

Cons: You are out of stock.

Other Thoughts: Please get more.

1 out of 5 eggsUnacceptably high card failure rate

Pros: Inexpensive, hosts both SATA and IDE RAID drive configurations.

Fairly easy to set up and use. Decent data transfer rates - when it's working.

Cons: Three card failures in two years = no more Rosewill RAID for me.

In the time I owned three of these cards, all of them told me they were failing the same way: by causing random BSOD issues with my PC.

The first two times, I was rather put out by the 'random' errors plaguing my PC, as I take pains to ensure my rig runs smoothly with regular maintenance, a solid UPS and power supply, etc.

The third time, I suspected the Rosewill card was at fault and sure enough, pulling it restored my PC to a happy, error-free state.

Unlike more expensive cards, there's nothing in the way of on-board diagnostics to tell you the card itself is failing. Nor should there be in this price range; it's about as basic a RAID card as it gets, really.

Other Thoughts: Given these RAID failures, I've had to purchase a stand-alone NAS for my data backup / redundant storage needs, so I'll no longer need an internal RAID setup. Which is good, as I've had nothing but headaches over the years with RAID and Rosewill in general.

Don't get me wrong; RAID's fine for some and I think most RAID cards are solid buys... IF you spend the money for a good one. As the old saying goes, you get what you pay for and in my case, I got quite a few sleepless nights thinking my data was gone forever.

The second card failed just within the first year, so Rosewill's warranty covered it and Newegg was excellent in sending a speedy replacement. When THAT card failed 4 months later, I asn't too put out, as fortunately I had also purchased a service plan with the original card that was still in effect - how's THAT for planning ahead?

No more RAID cards for me, I think, definitely nothing from Rosewill. As I said before, if you're going to use RAID, spend the money to get a VERY good card, or you'll probably lose sleep when you least expect it when the hardware lets you down.

5 out of 5 eggsit works

Pros: Works as advertise Sata drives are recognized as they are supposed to.

Cons: Transfer rates are slower than sataIII, but not a problem as long as the harware works as it is supposed to.

Other Thoughts: cheap. A good buy.

1 out of 5 eggsBSoD in Windows 7 x64

Pros: It was the cheapest IDE controller I could find.

Cons: It causes Windows 7 to blue screen with an error message about IRQL and RAID drivers. It did it randomly until I manually removed the RAID drivers, but it still does it occasionally when resuming from hibernation or sleep.

It also doesn't seem to want to boot from an IDE CD drive, even though it detects it fine, and it works once an OS is booted.

The included CD has the manual for this card, but no driver. It's got drivers for thirty-odd devices, but not this one. The drivers they have for download on their website all give a message that they can't find a compatible device.

Other Thoughts: I really wish I would have got something more expensive, or even a SATA to IDE adapter. Unfortunately, I'm stuck with it, and my IDE drives. I can't wait til I can afford new drives, then I'll smash this stupid card with a hammer.

5 out of 5 eggsMine works great!

Pros: I installed this in an old XP box. I've used both SATA connections and the IDE connector simultaneously without any problems. Some have had trouble booting their drive with this card so make sure your BIOS boot sequence is set to "add-in bootable device" or similar since your system doesn't know about the card until after its driver is loaded.

Cons: None. Remember this is a SATA I card so your drive might be a little slower than you expect. Also IDE throughput on the card is a little bit slower than with the mobo IDE connector on my system.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks with win7 64bit out of the box

Pros: Plugged right in and fired up my pc, additional post screen for detecting devices.
Used this to retrieve data from an old PATA hard drive, worked like a charm

Cons: Only connects one PATA hard drive at a time? havent tried with a slave drive.

Other Thoughts: I feel like people would give this negative reviews because they are trying to use a PATA optical drive with it and boot from CD, I wouldn't expect that to work because there would be no drivers installed to recognize it.

5 out of 5 eggsYou Don't Have to RAID

Pros: All I needed was another two SATA ports. Some of the SATA cards can ONLY RAID. You can either RAID or just have two independent SATA ports with this card.

Cons: None - did exactly what I needed.

1 out of 5 eggsDO NOT BUY!!!!! NOT COMPATIBLE WITH WINDOWS 7!!

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Doesn't work with Windows 7. Card would show up on start-up and then when logging into Windows, nothing.. Piece of junk.

Other Thoughts: I read online this card uses controllers from the days of Win98SE. If you even get it to work, you will only be getting about 3MB up/down.
