1 out of 5 eggsWon't Fit a Standard Rack

Pros: They are shiny

Cons: I bought these because they were recommended by Newegg to be used with the Rosewill RSV-R4000 Rack Mount case I purchased from them. I've been attempting to mount the case in a standard Mid-Atlantic rack which houses the rest of my rack-mounted gear. Once installed, these rails are too 'fat' to accommodate the case. I thought the bracket ears were too wide and were hitting the sides of the rack case so I trimmed them to fit better but the rails simply do not leave enough space to slide the computer case into the rack.

Other Thoughts: I've been a broadcast maintenance Television Engineer for over 30 years. It is how I've always made my living. I've racked more broadcast VTR's and DDR's/video servers than I care to remember. These are the most ill-fitted rack rails I've ever seen. Maybe it was intended to be used for a different case and Newegg pawned them off on what ever gear they thought would work.
They don't work with the case that Newegg sold me.

5 out of 5 eggsBest rails that I have used thus far

Pros: -- Lots holes/slots makes mounting to the unit easy
-- Very sturdy
-- Rail mount hole pattern designed to allow mounting in the middle of a "U" or in between 2 "U"s (vital for my application)

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: I design and build radar systems for research purposes (qty 1) and I end up dealing with a lot of equipment that is has strange hole patterns, etc. It seems like I have to drill holes or otherwise modify the rails I buy every time. These rails went onto my massive 100lb 5U transmitter with absolutely no problems. They are very sturdy and definitely the best rails I have used.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Nice Rails

Pros: Good construction, thick metal and great ball bearings with decent lubrication. I bought two of these for a recent build.

Cons: None at the moment.

4 out of 5 eggsGood for the price

Pros: Cheap. Work. Pretty easy to fit to my rack. I bought 5 of these for some Norco RPC-230 cases. They work OK together (though maybe the 20" ones would have worked with my cases). No parts missing.

Cons: Some are a little stiff - but they still work fine. They do need to be mounted inside the rails - I had to get a little creative with the supplied hardware (as the instructions are not up to much) but I was able to install them with no additional hardware.

Other Thoughts: I wouldn't hesitate to buy more of these if I needed them.

1 out of 5 eggsMost contents missing

Pros: None. Its impossible to install.

Cons: Only 2 out of 7 items on the package contents list were actually in the box. No screws, washers, L shaped nut plate or rear L brackets were included.

The install instructions were mostly missing as well. The one page referenced diagrams on other pages that weren't included.

Other Thoughts: The sliding rails themselves seem sturdy and would probably work well if they could be installed.

1 out of 5 eggsLooks great...now if only I could use them

Pros: Free shipping and inexpensive

Cons: The product consists of two sliding rails, four brackets that attach to your cabinet or four post rack that hold the sliding rails and four nut plates to secure these four brackets. My package only arrived with three brackets so I'm unable to install. I contacted Rosewill support and it's been almost a month with no parts.

Other Thoughts: Potentially good product if they can get their quality control up to speed to actually package all required components.

2 out of 5 eggsGood slides, but garbage mounting hardware

Pros: As others have mentioned, slides are of good quality, lubricated, nice & smooth. Also, price is nice...

Cons: Mounting "ears" (the L-shaped brackets that mate the sliders to the rack itself) were too wide. Pressed right against the outer bracket of the rack, the rails were still too far in. There was no way to get a server in as the space between the rails was too narrow. Fortunately I had an extra set of orphaned sliders with no rails that I could steal the L-brackets & hardware from. Mounted up fine with those, but would have required some time with a grinding wheel to get the original Rosewill hardware to actually fit.

My kit was also missing washers necessary to securely mount the thing, but I ended up robbing the (MUCH heavier) bolts & captive nuts from the extra pair of sliders and finally got the whole thing mounted up.

Other Thoughts: The L-brackets included seem made for a rack with either a much wider space around the mounting holes or else no backing on the outside of the holes. In my IBM e-Series rack, the brackets stuck out too far. The other rails I had handy all had ears about 1/4 inch narrower than the Rosewill ears.

Very frustrating experience all around. Definitely won't buy these again as I'm out out "spares" to complete them.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat slides, poor documentation

Pros: Cheap compared to more expensive slides that can cost well over a hundred dollars. Worked on an old SGI ATX case that I bought years ago for cheap that came with no rails. Have another I plan to mount and I will use these same rails for that system too.

Cons: As some users have mentioned, Rosewill did not provide proper mounting hardware nor did they provide any decent documentation. But in their defense they have a nice 6 page PDF manual on their website. Just Google the model number: RSV-R26 and you will find the Rosewill page and the download link. To mount the rails in the rack (mine has square holes) you use the provided M5x10 screws. BUT the screw heads are too small for square holes and need a washer. The washer is shown in the online directions but not provided in the hardware bag. Must have been an over site when they put together the packaging. The online manual also showed extra hardware that was not in my box so the hardware list must have been revised to correct this problem. The directions shown in the Newegg photo gallery feature some diagrams, not mine. It featured a hardware list and a vague 5 step how-to mounting list written in "engrish". No pictures or diagrams.

Other Thoughts: If you are new to rack mounting you should be aware that these slides do not provide cable management. This mean that when you slide the system out be sure you have enough slack on every cable so the case can fully slide out.

Be sure you have someone help you mount the rails and case, it can be a big hassle to do it yourself and if the server is very heavy you might hurt yourself or drop it. An electric screwdriver will also save you allot of sweat and cursing.

Make sure your case does not exceed 16.9 inches (430mm) in width otherwise it will not fit.

2 out of 5 eggsMissing hardware

Pros: Rails themselves are good quality. Thick steel, smooth sliding action.

Cons: I did not recieve adequate hardware to mount the rails to the rack.

I know this is just an inconvenience - you can pick up the needed hardware at any hardware store - but you shouldn't have to, you're paying for it with this kit.

Luckily I also bought two sets of NORCO rails - and the NORCO rails provided extra hardware.

Other Thoughts: Since the price is about the same, and the rails themselves appear to be identical to the NORCO rails, I do not recommend this product. Save yourself the hassle of purchasing additional hardware and buy the NORCO rails instead.
