4 out of 5 eggsCorrect for an Acer H340

Pros: Works as it should for my needs of a JBOD eSata multiplier.

Cons: None yet

Other Thoughts: purchased this to replace a different eSata card for my Acer H340. The on board eSata port will work with 1 drive; adding a 2nd will still work but it will throw errors and occasionally halt the system. This card plugged right in, connected my 4bay eSata enclosure (no need to evict and re-add drives in WHS) and has run flawlessly since then. The old eSata card did manage to mangle the data on the external array, but a script from MS did correct the issue, even if it ran for 5 days on unmounted volumes! (9TB of disk, 1GB of RAM, and an Atom processor, that's actually not THAT bad).

4 out of 5 eggsMay not work with Linux

Pros: I believe this card works under Windows. The technical specs did not mention Linux as a possibility. So I'm giving the product 4 eggs.

Cons: I purchase this board so I could attach my old media hard drives to a used HP DL380 G5 server I picked up cheap. I installed Ubuntu server 12.04 and when that didn't work I tried the 13.10 version also. Both were plagued by timeouts and resets of the drives when I tried to access the drives. I tried passing both the msi=1 and msi=0 settings to the device driver with no change in the behavior.

3 out of 5 eggsRock Solid, But Slow

Pros: The SiI3132 chipset works with the Ubuntu 13.10 out of the box, and supports FIS eSata port replication well. Zero issue with reliability and Rosewill is a decent brand

Cons: Slow. Throughput maxes out at around 116 MB/Sec. regard less of drive configurations.

Other Thoughts: If you're running a linux server, this is a good choice. Well established and guaranteed to work without custom kernel modules. If I had it to do over again, I would go for a faster card.

5 out of 5 eggsStable, but not 3 Gb/s

Pros: Very stable;
cheap;
does not have specific drive requirements like some other cards;
does not drop HDDs randomly like some other cards.

Cons: The manufacturer advertises this card as SATA II 3.0 Gb/s. I have an external hardware raid with 4 HDDs. When I connect it to the motherboards onboard eSATA port, I get sustained read rate of ~270 MB/s (which is SATA II speed). With this card, I get only half of that at ~130 MB/s (which is actually SATA I speed).
However, if both ports are used simultaneously -- such as 3-4 drives attached to one, and 3-4 attached to another -- I get >200 MB/s.

Other Thoughts: I thought about giving this card a 4 egg rating, given the aforementioned con (more so about misrepresenting the product, rather than the actual speed), but seeing as how 1.5 Gb/s is enough for my purposes, the relatively low price of the card, and overall excellent stability, I thought taking a whole egg would have been too harsh.

Also, to the previous reviewer "The Advocate" who made a suggestion to another reviewer to "lower your tech level to 0, because you obviously know absolutely nothing about computers" ... well, maybe you should do the same thing, as your knowledge here is clearly lacking ... just a thought.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as expected

Pros: Fast, stable.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I have a HDD dock that comes with USB 2.0 and eSATA ports, always used the USB 2.0 port because my MB doesn't have eSATA ports. Recently I decided that I need faster connection for external HDDs. So it is either buying a USB 3.0 HDD dock or having an eSATA extension on the MB. It turns out this product is a nice choice. Cheaper than buying a new USB 3.0 HDD dock and the speed is way better than USB 2.0.

Windows 8 automatically installed driver for the card. I manually upgraded the driver by downloading a newer one from SI website.

Same for the BIOS, the one comes with the card is 7.7.02, and the latest is 7.7.03.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Little Card

Pros: Great little card that does exactly what it says it does. Installed it on a windows 8 with no issues at all and i also have another one on a Windows 7 with no issues at all. As expected have three times the transfer rates to two external Hard Drives. Awesome card.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Little Card

Pros: Great little card that does exactly what I need it to. Installed it and then installed Win 8 and plugged my two externals in and got great speed through e-SATA with no further action. I'd expect the same in Win 7.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsReliable, port-multiplier compatible

Pros: This is a real gem! I've got 3 of these cards now; they're cheap, reliable, and compatible with everything I've thrown at them: Docks, port-multipliers, RAID enclosures, DVD/Lightscribe burners, 3TB drives, 12TB arrays.
Performance is very good for the price, even during heavy multi-drive use.

Plug-and-play in Ubuntu and Windows XP/Vista/7/8 -- only time I needed drivers for this card was using it as the system/boot drive for a Windows XP install.

Uses the widely-supported SiI 3132 chip. Forget the outdated Rosewill website -- you can download current firmware/drivers/utils directly from Silicon Image.

Low-profile bracket is a nice plus, works well in Dell SFF cases. The card itself is very small; I've got one next to a bulky video card, and it doesn't block the fan.

Cons: Only two ports.

Other Thoughts: On one machine, I've got 14 drives (3 RAID enclosures, 1 HDD dock, 1 DVD burner) connected through a SINGLE port on this card, through an Addonics AD5ESAPM-E external port-multiplier.

5 out of 5 eggsRock solid since 2010.

Pros: I have purchased several of these RC-219 cards to connect to external eSata hard drives. Simply put, they work like a charm in both OSX 10.6.8 and Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. I have connected single and multi-bay external enclosures to the RC-219. Never had a single connection issue with my hardware. You simply can't beat the price/performance ration here - excellent reliability, again.

These cards are capped at 3GB/sec read/write. I typically get read speeds anywhere between 85MB/sec and 105MB/sec to my external drives.

Cons: None.
