5 out of 5 eggsWorks great in W7

Pros: Used this to connect an external RAID enclosure to a kind of old computer without an eSATA port. The computer has 1.5G SATA internally, and now the external drive gets the same speeds as the internal ones, maybe even a little faster! 60-80MB/s. Windows7 32bit drivers were detected automatically and the thing started working immediately without any setup required!

Cons: nothing

5 out of 5 eggsPlugged it in and it worked!

Pros: Windows XP on a Dell Dimension 4700. 3x faster than the USB 2.0 external drives I was using. Mostly store backups and drive images. Great upgrade for $12.99.

Cons: No RAID, but I didn't want RAID anyway. It's just an old desktop.

Other Thoughts: Don't forget to order an eSATA cable or two!
If you need more speed, get a PCI express card.

5 out of 5 eggsnot too shabby

Pros: This this is pretty nice. As you can see it is a half sized card, and it comes with a full and half sized bracket. I stuck this into a tiny server by Foxconn I had and used it to run two external eSATA disks all the time.

Cons: None that I've noticed

5 out of 5 eggsGreat card!

Pros: Easy install. Very good transfer speeds for a PCI card. Can turn off SATA BIOS so it won't increase boot time. Like that!

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: You never know about these Rosewill products. Some are excellent, like this card, others can be a little shaky. I've found it's a good idea to go to their site and read the users guide, if it's available. The descriptions can be a little misleading. I bought one of these cards quite a while ago that promised RAID 10. It would, but two SATA with two IDE drives...Huh??

5 out of 5 eggsVery Pleased

Pros: Few esata PCI cards are still available.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: The card I initially purchased was defective, producing transfer rates much slower than USB 2.0. Rosewill customer support department was absolutely first rate, and immediately provided a replacement. Transfer speeds now are incredibly fast on my old system--usually 44+ megs per second.

1 out of 5 eggsVery Disappointing

Pros: VERY difficult to find a ESATA PCI card

Cons: Transfer rates are no better than USB 2.0 -- consistently less than 25 MB/s on my quad-core Dell. EXTREMELY disappointing.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
Try using the drivers found here: http://rosewill.com/products/d_1134/productDetail.htm. Click on the download tab and it will show you the latest drivers for your OS. Also, are you able to try the card in another PCI-e slot or try it in another system to see where the issue follows? If you are still having issues after that, please contact the Rosewill support team either via phone at 800-575-9885 or via email at techsupport@rosewill.com.
Thanks,
Rosewill Customer Care

1 out of 5 eggs64-bit drivers that work?

Pros: Hard to find an eSATA external port card that plugs into an "old-fashioned" PCI bus...

Cons: But Rosewill drivers are NOT compatible with Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit running (very well) on a machine equipped with XEON CPUs as opposed to ITANIUM CPUs. Tried both the drivers on the installation CD as well as 64-bit driver package downloaded directly from the Rosewill website.

Other Thoughts: From the Newegg website description: "Completely with drivers for Windows 98, Windows Millennium, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows 2003 and XP, Server 2003 and 2008.
Supports 64bit / 32bit Windows Vista."

"...Windows cannot install this device...."

Manufacturer Response:

Hi JAG,
This device should work just fine in those operating systems. Try using the drivers found on our website here: http://rosewill.com/products/d_1134/productDetail.htm. Click on the download tab and then select the drivers for the OS that you are using. If you are still having issues after that, please contact the Rosewill support team either via phone at 800-575-9885 or via email at techsupport@rosewill.com.
Thanks,
Rosewill Customer Care

4 out of 5 eggsNo Problems

Pros: - Ordered one
- Put it into a PCI-X slot / Older dell workstation / XP
- No problem.
- Thx to "WT from CT" for his review
- Using with x2 2TB Ext. Fantom Drives

Cons: Knocked egg off for driver/download confusion. RC-220 is not easily found on website. Used site specific google search.

Other Thoughts: Ordering another one for more esata goodness.

4 out of 5 eggsworks

Pros: Works with Ubuntu Server 10.04LTS in my Atom D510 box. Very happy that I upgraded my external drive from USB, drive is much faster, lower CPU load, more stable.

Cons: Not SATA 3G.

5 out of 5 eggsVMWare ESXi Supported!

Pros: Inexpensive eSata device recognized by VMWare ESXi for VMWare DirectPath use. Was able to install VMWare ESXi on eSATA drive as well. Very surprised and it worked flawlessly thru much testing.

Cons: PCI card only so not supported by higher end servers due to voltage requirements.

Other Thoughts: If you want to boot to an eSATA drive with ESXi installed on it...great! If you want a backup solution for Windows OS then use this card and connect an external eSATA drive.
