4 out of 5 eggsGreat Rack

Pros: This is a great little rack; very solid and adjustable for small spaces. Other reviewers complained about it not accommodating all widths and depths, but really, if you use the recommended shelves, then you can go as deep as you like regardless of how far apart the verticals are (reverse the dog ears on the shelves, so the extend OUT along the shelves rather than inward).

Cons: Net well suited for railed servers, according to other reviewers. I've not yet encountered that problem.

5 out of 5 eggsI love this and will buy another

Pros: It is super strong steal. capable of holding a 1u mini case with out side or back support. If you are not using super long cases you can move the racking mounts closer together for shorter servers. The holes take standard screw's and nuts from any old racks. The wheels are of great quility and can stand up to all the weight.

Cons: Not sure this is really a con but it's heavy. I'm not sure if it's just my case but there isnt room for side rails, I had to use back shelves

Other Thoughts: I have two heavy steel 4u's fully loaded with 5 harddrives each and 2 1u's. I needed to buy a back support shelf due to the weight of the 4u's but still got the two servers within one bolt of each other. I wish it had a mount for a power strip at the bottom, but since it moves on wheels I can see how that would cause an enegeering issue.

5 out of 5 eggsworks great

Pros: This rack is strong, sturdy, equipment fits great, rolls easily on carpet and doesn't need instructions to put together. If you need instructions, then you shouldn't be in the business.

Cons: High shipping costs, but that is because it is heavy.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome - Under- rated

Pros: STRONG (I'm using over 100 lb UPS units, yes, multiple)
STURDY (on castors, OR large screw feet with rubber)
EASY ASSEMBLY (Seriously, no instructions needed**)
DURABLE, nice and even finish and coat.

Cons: ***(Barely even a con, but someone else complained)
If you're mounting the castors, the holes are not pretapped/prethreaded. It requires simply screwing the screws in with more force. (EASY, TRUST ME) I did this with my Hitachi powered screwdriver. Not even wrist strain.
They're self tapping screws, people, jeez.

Other Thoughts: Alright. I was very reluctant to try this rack out because of its previous negative readings (2/5 ?) but it turns out, this is SPECTACULAR.

There's a little room for improvement, but this unit is GORGEOUS. Any other cons are me just nitpicking and being a prick.

1 out of 5 eggsCompletly useless...Even with their server cases/mounting hardware. STAY AWAY!

Pros: Feels sturdy, looks decent.

Cons: Does not fit either of the 3 Norco cases that I had. Like other reviewers have stated, it is slightly off. I even purchased their mounting hardware to go with this rack (which wasn't cheap). I own two Norco RPC-4020 4U and a RPC-4224. None of their cases would fit with their hardware/mounts. Unacceptable. Their support seems to not care enough to check their dimensions of their hardware they have in their stock to make sure its correct. I sent them several emails with pictures of my hardware requesting basic information (that they should have on their site) and they refused to check. They wanted me to purchase more expensive mounts they assured me would work (they said the same thing for the 1st mounting brackets I purchased). Norco shouldn't be making server racks if they can't stick to standards or even support their own server cases. I also had a hard time assembling it all because of the extra layer of pain on all the threads for the screws.

Other Thoughts: If you don't need to screw down your equipment (or put them on anything but the bottom row, than this could work for you. Otherwise stay clear or this rack. Its a shame they wont listen to our reviews and own up to their mistakes. I spent over 8 hours trying to get it to work (I tried everything) and got nowhere. I really wanted it to work as I didn't want to pay to ship it back. After dumping several hundred dollars on the rack/mounting equipment and spending countless hours with their mediocre support (by email only) to only have a rack I can't use was very upsetting. Norco makes good server cases, server racks...not so much.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor adherence to standard rack sizes

Pros: - inexpensive
- fairly compact

Cons: - "universal" mounting style ends up not fitting anything correctly
- the company's own brackets do not fit the rack
- mounting hardware does not fit any rack-mountable cases I was able to find

Other Thoughts: Had high hopes for this unit. Looked great for a small number of rack-mountable pieces... BUT... quickly found out that none of the pieces I owned fit correctly into the unit, the spacings on the front post do not conform to the standards laid down for rack-mountable hardware. Worse yet, since there were no brackets, I had to buy them separately from the company. They only sell these on one website I could find. This site charged outrageous shipping, (they would not combine shipping on multiple brackets, even though they came in the same small box which, frustratingly, was a back-folded USPS flat rate small box for which I ended up paying almost $60 for shipping) After all this, I found out that the brackets DO NOT even fit the rack! The spacings were wrong! On their OWN piece of hardware! Unbelievable and inexcusable. I had to drill my own holes and find my own mounting hardware and the result is kludgey at best. That pretty much says it all. Avoid this one at all costs.

4 out of 5 eggsWith the proper brackets, a nice rack to have

Pros: - Quite easy to assemble.
- It is a relatively inexpensive item to introduce one to the rackmount world.
- Casters roll/track well.

Cons: - No manual.
- Minor finish blemishes.
- The threads for casters need to be tapped oversize to account for the coating/paint in the threads for ease of assembly.
- While inexpensive (as a rack component), it will still set you back some significant cash.

Other Thoughts: No links allowed, but if you wish to read my review of this rack, Google WeGotServed and search for R4-15U.

Pros: Sturdy construction. Not overly expensive. If you have light servers and do not need rails it will work. If you want to custom build your own non sliding rails (flat metal) it will work. You should NOT have to do that stuff though!

Cons: Is not wide enough to use with rails. I bought a Norco 2u case and Norco 20" rails. THEY DO NOT FIT. I am short by 1/2" in width to be able to install the server into the rack with the rails installed. I called the company number and told a guy that answered what was up but he just said um oh.. uh huh... He did not seem to know much about the stuff. I think he is just some guy who buys from China and sells online. I hope I am wrong and they fix this issue.

Other Thoughts: I bought this before the other two reviews were out. I was on vacation for a week and then had to wait a week to get the rails... or I would have warned everyone sooner.

I will try to post some pics or a video when I get some time. (Finals and certs coming up!)

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I'm sorry that you are experiencing problems with the open rack.

This small, short in depth rack was not designed for sliding rail mounting. There is no problem with the standard width of the rack. Sliding rails should be placed in between, not beside, of the two vertical poles. That need the sliding rail is shorter than the distance between front and rear poles. If the sliding rails are mounted to the side of the vertical poles, it will seem as if the width is not enough.
If you are mounting a server case to a short depth, 4-post open rack or 2-post open rack, you can choose our other mounting solutions instead of sliding rails. SA-3201 is used to hold the server case from the bottom. SA-3301 and SA-3202 are for rear mounting.

Best Regards,

NORCO Support Team

4 out of 5 eggsDecent, but narrow

Pros: Heavy construction. Decent Price

Cons: Wrong hardware to assemble. The inside dimension is on the narrow side. I had to move to ultra thin rails for mounting cases. 427mm and 430mm cases are just a little too wide with .500 rails. Get rails that are either .380 or .295 unless your cases is well below 425mm wide.
