    5 out of 5 eggsSerial ATA (SATA) PCI Card

    Pros: Does what I wanted to do and very easy setup on Windows 7 Ultimate x32-bit

    Replaced a single IDE 74GB HD with (2) 320GB SATA hard drives on an old Dell 8200. Easy plug and play... went to SIIG website and downloaded most recent drivers and installed... no floppy needed. W7 found the card and everything went smooth. Took about 5 minutes from start to finish.

    Cons: None!

    Other Thoughts: Windows Experience Index went from 4.7 with the IDE drive to 5.9 with the new SATA setup.

    I purchased this in 2007 from the PC manufacturer website for too much $$! Never installed until last year but wish I had.

    Pros: 1. 94.6/87.2 burst/average Mb/s transfer rates over 2 TB drive range, 3% CPU

    Cons: 1. SMART data misreported when two HDDs attached -- one drive's data reported for both drives

    2. Passes SMART ID and Data, fails to report error/self-test logs

    Other Thoughts: PCI\VEN_1095&DEV_3512&SUBSYS_35121095&REV_01\4&23C0B1C&0&08F0

    This implementation is clearly defective. SMART data reporting error when two HDDs attached; Query of drive 1 gets data from drive 2; drive 2 is reported correctly as drive 2. Appears to be associated with Silicon Image Sil 3512 SATARaid Controller implementations (BIOS 4.5.02 here). SMART data pass-through only partially implemented -- ID and Data available, but not error/self-test logs (subject to design error of misreporting drives entirely).

    Pros: Works fine for the intent I needed it for

    Cons: As others have noted, you will have to have a floppy drive available to install the drivers during windows setup. Not a real con, and a lot of controller cards need this done, but just a heads up for others out there.

    Pros: It works like it says it does. It even helped support a 320gb notebook drive in my desktop!! Install was painless and easy and everything you needed was included. If needed I would definitely buy this one again.

    Cons: Not a con but a warning, If you plan on doing a Brand new install of an os with this card you HAVE TO HAVE A FLOPPY DRIVE AVAILABLE! You need to copy some drivers from the cd-rom they give you to a floppy disk from a working computer.

    Other Thoughts: One thing they could do is include the floppy for NEW installs. By new, I did a fresh install and you need to create a floppy with the drivers that are found in the floppy folder from the cd-rom. This wasnt a problem really.

    Pros: Works.

    Cons: Hmmm. Not as expensive as other controllers that do the same thing?

    Other Thoughts: Easy to install, recognized any drive we connected to it. We tried a couple of different brands, some twice as expensive, but they did not work any better (or even as well is some instances). We have standardized on this card as our PCI SATA controller. I'm ordering another today!
