5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: Hooked this into my Win7x64 machine and a Habey DS-1280 and the performance is lights-out. Speeds are 100+ mbps read/write in RAID-5 setup. Great long term investment and well worth the money.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: SSIA!

4 out of 5 eggsWorks nicely in Mac Pro && is bootable

Pros: This is an awesome card; I've coupled it with an external SAS enclosure with 8 drives and get wonderfully fast speeds. And best of all, it's bootable on my Mac Pro with no drivers. I love the Ethernet port for management so that I don't want to install anything--it just works.

Cons: The bad part about using with the Mac is that you'll have to flash the EFI firmware from Areca's support download site. It's a bit buried, but it's there and easy to install.

Other Thoughts: As with most enterprise storage, the UI is functional but ugly. But for the money, this is a very nice direct-attached solution. I am very thrilled with this for my development work where I do a lot of heavy disk I/O on my Mac Pro. Finally the disk can keep up with the rest of the system.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Ok

Pros: Installed in a HP DL380G6 for use with an external drive enclosure. Works great.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I had two x4 slots on the riser card that matched connectors. I did read further and plugged it into a much larger x8 card since thats what the specs called for. It works as it should.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid card

Pros: What an amazing card!
This is my first SAS controller card, it is so fast that I will never go back to eSATA again. I have 8 X 2TB Samsungs in Sans Digital TR8X enclosure, set up the drives in RAID6. HDtune score gives ~550MB/Sec in read and ~448MB/sec in write performance.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I rarely write reviews, but the previous reviewer give this a 1 star. That is misleading, so I think I need to write a review to let everyone know this card is working. If you have used a RAID controller before, you know you can't go wrong with Areca.

1 out of 5 eggsDoes not work

Pros: None.

Cons: Got my replacement. Finally figured out that the problem was the card cannot handle a 5-meter long cable, even though the SAS specs max cable length is 8-meter. Their tech support says they've only tested it on 3-meter cables.

Other Thoughts: Decided to move the raid drives to another enclosure. When I powered on the computer, the controller says all the drives are available for use - no raid array! Moved it to the original control and the same thing - no raid array!

Stay away from this. Oh, their support here in the States does not respond to email so you have to get tech support from Taiwan!

1 out of 5 eggsCan't Get It To Work - Too Many Drive Fails

Pros: Glowing review from Arizona Mac User's Group led me to buy this product.

Cons: After almost a month of trying, I have not been able to get this card to work. I constantly get drive failure errors and have not been able to use any of the raids I've created with this card. I've got 2 other SAS cards that works with the same set of drives with no drive failures at all so I know it's not my raid or cables.

Other Thoughts: I'm hoping that I just happened to get a bad card. I've returned it for a replacement. We'll see if the replacement works.
