5 out of 5 eggsPerfect raid card

Pros: These cards work perfect for your case with 8087 connectors inside, I have installed a few of them and all work flawless

These used to come with 8087 to breakout, now they come with 8087 to 8087 cables.

Cons: Price?

Other Thoughts: Get this card if you want to build a great raid array with good working tools out of the box.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Mother of RAID

Pros: Yes indeed, the magic RAID sauce starts here. Installed on a X8STE mobo in a Supermicro 846TQ case, with the optional battery backup, it worked perfectly. 24 drives on the internal connectors and room for 6 more on the external, 2GB onboard cache upgradable to 4GB, and even includes an out-of-band management website on the card. I may just be easily impressed, but having used Dell's PERC cards, the Areca's are the finest I've used.

Cons: Ah, hm, it did lock up when a drive died during initialization. Well, I did feed it the same drive twice. It picked up the initialization after the reboot, however.

Other Thoughts: Full strength hardware RAID card. I pity the fool that uses anything less.
