Defective on arrival
Pros: Lots of features and RAID combinations.
Cons: Came to me defective. On boot up the card states it has no BIOS installed. Windows 7 couldn't recognize the device. Manually installing the drivers caused my computer to freeze every time. Could not boot into the McBIOS Raid on the card.
Other Thoughts: I was hoping I would finally get a good RAID controller due to the price of this card. However, this was not the case with this controller. Spending such a high price for this controller I would think the quality control would be a bit better. Customer support was quick though.

nice card; problems in asus server
Pros: Lots of options for management. I love the Ethernet interface on this adapter.
Cons: The Asus RS520-E6/ERS8 server doesn't play nice with this card. Although the Areca does work in that it will let you build RAID arrays in the RAID BIOS, when we try to load any operating system, none are able to see a hard drive. This applies to both Linux and Windows Server 2008. I don't have this problem with Areca ARC-1882 cards on Supermicro servers.
Other Thoughts: I would probably not recommend this card for use in Asus servers based on my experience. I'm getting a Supermicro and will use the ARC-1882LP version in it because I need better RAID options than what Asus can provide (either on-board or via the Pike RAID add-on). I want a pure hardware solution and I want RAID 6.
