5 out of 5 eggsThe one and only!!

Pros: All hail the new BIOS!! UEFI is the coming Bios standard. Where as most of the OTHER makers are dragging their feet, Areca has already integrated the new standard, and is ahead of the pack!! The installation of a 10 Tb raid 5 array was seamless. Yes Windows 7 played a serious roll in being cooperative and compatible, but Areca is the only UEFI bios compatible SAS card I have found on the market. Good price, too

Cons: I can't think of a one.

Other Thoughts: My wife calls me a nerd. I can't help it. I like playing with my toys. It keeps me out of trouble.....except for how it make me spend money....or so she says. All's fair. She loves's all good.

5 out of 5 eggsExactly what I needed

Pros: True hardware raid with cache. Includes required cables, has cooling fan, and low profile card doesn't take up much space. Good performance and simple configuration. Current bios installed and drivers are easily available.

Cons: Documentation was lacking for the various configuration options and I couldn't find it at the vendor site either. Best settings for SSD performance would be good to know as well.

Other Thoughts: Drivers available include VMWare ESX making this usable and supported for virtual server hosts. I haven't ever had issues with Areca and waited for them to release a Sata III solution.

The competition didn't come with a cooling fan so you had to request one from the vendor which didn't suit me.

The settings default to raid mode so you need to either change the default to pass through (JBOD) or change individual disks to pass through before they show in the OS.

5 out of 5 eggsIncludes the SAS>SATA cables

Pros: This is an excellent card, recommended by many of my fellow video editing professionals. Good amount of connectors for an average system.

Cons: Nothing so far, will modify the review later if necessary, but not expecting much trouble. The instructions are broken English in some spots, and definitely not very thorough, but I'm only average in my knowledge of these types of devices, so a more advanced understanding may be helpful.

Other Thoughts: It's a bit steep compared to similar offerings from some other brands, but Areca cards are consistently rated as being the best for dependability and features, so it's probably worth the investment.

5 out of 5 eggsPretty dang decent

Pros: Advanced format support (4k sectors)
OOB management (huge plus in my environment)
Inband management is a common binary for all Areca cards
Drivers built into linux kernels (2.6.36+)
Management is quite advanced, better than your average card.

Cons: Rebuild rate/Initialization seems rather slow.
Management interface slightly clunky.. but what do you expect from something that does as much as it does.

Other Thoughts: After owning a few other cards, This one takes the cake. I was a little leery of buying a brand I hadn't seen around for years and years, yet these guys seem to know how to make a solid product.

For those people wondering what the difference between
ARC-1223-8I-MS, and ARC-1223-8I, it's the cables included. 8I-MS comes with SAS-Sata breakout/fanout cables, 8I has SAS-SAS
