5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product and worth the price!

Pros: Purchased to mount ARK 4U-500CA cases in an 8-foot square-holed rack. This rail system supplied everything necessary (plus several extra hardware parts) to securely mount my 20-25lb servers in the rack. Folks may have been too harsh on the manufacturer in some of these posts. I have seen bad rails and these are pretty high quality and built with steel ball bearings and rail cages to last forever! They come pre-lubed and run very smoothly.
There is simply no way you will ever wear these things out.

Cons: Absolutely none... Except maybe re-write your instructions.

Other Thoughts: Having put rail systems together for 4 decades I did not follow the manufacturers instructions. I think the instructions provided would make this product very difficult to install and therefore cause a 5-egg review to be a one-egg review.

To Install these rails: Measure your rack from front rail to back. Then loosely assemble the "L" brackets to the rail at the measured length. Then install the rail in the rack and tighten all front and rear rail screws.
(HINT: you can hold the entire rail in the rack with only one screw in the front so you can have all hands free to install the rear screws)
Now the rails are installed front to rear and thoroughly tightened on front and back. Since you loosely installed the "L" brackets to the rail, you can slide the ball bearing part of the rail to the front and back.
Lastly, using a Phillips screwdriver and a 7mm end wrench, tighten the two screws and nuts on each "L" bracket .
(HINT: if you don't know exactly where to tighten the rail down (fore and aft) you could slide your server into the loosely tightened rail system and move the ball slider into the perfect position and then tighten the two screws and nuts on the "L" brackets)
Following these instructions, installation of rails from box-to-mounted-server is less than ten minutes.

More thoughts: these rails come in a master carton of 4 sets of rails. I ordered 4 sets so Newegg simply picked up a master carton and slapped a shipping label on the box. That way, my rails were packed perfectly! They arrived in pristine shape. So, I just ordered 4 more.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat rails

Pros: These guys racked up in an iStarUSA WO15AB without breaking a sweat. The motion is smooth, construction quality is high.

Great customer service. When Newegg incorrectly shipped without the mounting hardware, I called the manufacturer. Matt in the customer support department got me squared away in record-breaking time and had the replacement hardware in the mail 24 hours later.

I will be a lifetime customer of iStarUSA based solely on the great customer service.

Cons: Would be nice if they packed a couple extra screws and nuts. Good thing the hardware store had plenty :)

Other Thoughts: Newegg showed an unprecedented ability to mess up shipping on 2 of the 4 rails I bought.

2 shipped correctly.
1 shipped missing ALL the mounting hardware.
1 was damaged during shipping due to bad packing.

As someone else noted, Newegg does not pack these adequately and therefore they are subject to damage in shipping. The product itself is great if Newegg can get their act together.

5 out of 5 eggsBetter than expected

Pros: Comes with extra washers and nuts in case they get lost in the crevices of your server cabinet. (2 extra washers, 4 nuts, no extra screws)

I have tested this with a deep 1u server. the server slides all the way out of the cabinet and is held securely.

Server is easily removed without tools once installed.

When fully retracted, there is a small latching force to keep it this way.

In contrast to a previous review, this was packaged by newegg in a larger box with those airbags to protect the thinwalled inner box in stipment. The screw pack is wedged between 2 of the rails and taped in place. didn't look like it was getting loose.

Cons: Blocks all three holes in the rack space it is installed in. Any 2u or higher unit can use a cage nut and bolt to prevent the server from being pulled out. For a 1u server, one can drill a hole in the center of the mounting bracket and could use a slip on cage nut behind it to secure the server.

Other Thoughts: Designed for square hole rack rails.

When I opened the hardware bag, I thought I was missing washers, these stick together easily and I didn't notice they were stacked at first.

My 1u server did not have the front angle brackets for rackmounting, the slide rails are easy to move however are firm enough that I am confident it will stay put.

I am back to order 3 more and plan to use this for future server installs.

3 out of 5 eggsGood product if you can get all of it

Pros: Sturdy and works very well with an ARK 4U-500-CA Black 4U Rackmount Case on an Dell rack that has square holes.

Cons: I ordered 4 of these to rack some new servers. Of the 4 ordered, I only received 1 that was complete. They were shipped in the manufacturers product box, not a shipping container. The boxes they were sent in were a very light cardboard that isn't intended for shipping. The ends were only taped with a single light piece of tape. UPS automatically sent 1 of them back to NewEgg because it was too beat up to deliver. The ends of 2 of the ones they delivered were open and pieces were missing. One of the boxes was completely ripped in half, only held together by the rail inside the box. One of the boxes was taped up pretty well, and all the pieces made it. I had to send the other 2 back in new boxes. I'm not sure whether to order more or not. I like the product but don't think NewEgg can ship these successfully.

5 out of 5 eggsFirst Rail Kit

Pros: Rails are very solid and will fit almost any case. Can work on a fully extended 4u Case loaded with a heavy Computer without even feeling unstable at all....

Cons: Instructions aren't the clearest, but seeing that I managed with this being my first experience with mounting rails, I would say they are adequate.

Other Thoughts: And yes these rails are covered in lubricant oil. Just have a rag handy at install and you'll be more than fine.

Would recommend and will being buying more as I relocated more of my computers to the Rack mount.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: Very Universal

Cons: Not enough Screws

Other Thoughts: Mouned on a iStar Case, not sure if it would work on any other

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Newegg Customer:

Thank you so much for choosing iStarUSA to be part of your total computing system. We proudly stand behind our products and hope that you will find your next purchase an iStarUSA brand.

Our screws set should have been enough for your chassis, but again, it depends on the chassis type and brand. Other consumers typically go to a local hardware store for additional screws, or you can contact us by going to, or call 1-888-989-1189

4 out of 5 eggsSolid rails

Pros: Very extensible - brings a 20" 2U case completely out of its rack, with space behind it. Quite sturdy. Holds ~20lbs at full extension with no problems. Complete extended length over 50". Slides smoothly. Mounts easily. Comes with plenty of nuts, screws. Outermost (of three) part detaches from rails for easy mounting.

Cons: Instructions are not so clear. Comes _covered_ in some kind of grease or oil - gets all over your hands as you mount it. (Wipes off clean, though - not a big issue.) For a 2U server, blocks all six mounting holes at least partially - makes it impossible to bolt the server to the rack (reason for losing an egg).

Other Thoughts: Purchased four of these for moving several existing tower servers into a rack with 2U cases (specifically iStarUSA D-200-PFS from Newegg). Would (and will) buy again.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Solid construction, fits a standard Compaq/HP squaremount rack perfectly.

Cons: None really; installation is a bit of a pain, but you get what you pay for.

Other Thoughts: Purchasing second one for another computer.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: I got a rack mountable monitor off the online auction site and had no way of mounting it. So I baught this.

Very sturdy.

Cons: They need to supply extra nuts. I kind of lost one and had to run to a local hardware store to get another one.

Other Thoughts: I would trust this wil a heavy server.

5 out of 5 eggsNearly a work of art

Pros: Very nice case. Rolled edges, fit and finish are excellent. Internal wiring easly routed. Will certainly use the case in future projects.

Cons: Power supply not supported on the front side. Only held in by back mounts.

Other Thoughts: Good cooling, appears to be capable of redundant power supply setup.
