2 out of 5 eggsMeasure Twice, Buy Once. And, do your homework!

Pros: Strong looking rails. The rollers/rails themselves seem to be very well built and most everything seems to be thick steel.

Cons: These are NOT "universal" rails...

1) These CANNOT be used for 1U chassis. Even though they bolt into a 1U slot, are physically just (barely) over 1U in height. So, you need at least 1.3U of rack spacing... which essentially means 2U to get the bolt pattern to line up.
2) These are just flat out too wide for any of the servers I currently own. I have several 1U Supermicro servers at 16 13/16ths inch (42.7cm) wide and a single 4U Rosewill server at 16 15/16ths inch (43cm). All my routers, switches, patch panels and servers are mounted or sitting in a 4 post 25U open frame StarTech rack (only one server previously had rails, the others were temporarily stacked... hence why I bought these). These rails barely fit onto the Supermicro servers (with some pushing and finagling) but, the server chassis ultimately needs to be at least a few mm narrower to fit properly without fuss (probably <= 42.5cm). In the end it wouldn't matter because even if I could get them to work they rails are over 1U in height. Given the Rosewill case is even wider, no matter how many times I altered the mounting on the server, I couldn't get it to work. When the rails were shifted to be wide enough to fit the chassis width, they were too wide to slide in and out of the rack cage (they kept hitting the vertical mounting post preventing the server from being pulled out). So, these are completely useless for my needs.
3) All the screws that came with the kit have countersunk screw heads. That works fine with their screwy washer system to attach to the front and rear rack posts... but really sucks for mounting the L-brackets to the rails. Those screws should have been pan or button head screws. Going along with that, there were no washers for the nuts used in mounting the rails to the L-brackets, so the tiny nuts tend to dig into the screw slot when you tighten them.
4) The L-bracket uses proprietary square washers which at first thought lets you slide your enclosure flush to the rack and potentially use another screw through the dog ear to hold it in place. However, although the L-bracket has extra holes drilled in it... none of them line up with the middle post hole! (trivial considering all the other flaws)
5) The release tabs that allow you to completely remove/detach the server has to slide over a screw slot. The tabs are just cheap plastic and get pushed into the slot when you try to slide them up/down for release. This prevents you from being able to push them far enough to conduct a release! Seriously? You can't mount any screws in that spot anyway, otherwise the tabs cant be move at all. So, why put a slot there? You could maybe put a piece of tape over the slot so the release tab doesn't fall in; but, that was some seriously poor engineering by iStarUSA.

Other Thoughts: In all, these unfortunately don't work for my setup. However, for others with appropriately sized chassis, they might very well work fine. But, given all the other flaws I noted above, I still can't bring myself to give it more than 2 eggs. I had high hopes for these and iStarUSA engineering fell through on delivering a good quality product. I'll be contacting Newegg to see if they can be returned/refunded.

1 out of 5 eggsTottaly Unusable

Pros: Hard to say really.... Quality seems decent but I never got the chance to use the product as attended, see blow.

Cons: Just like James I ordered two sets of these both were missing all the mounting hardware (bolts, washers and nuts). and one set was missing a set of L brackets. It would have probably been possible to piece something together as far as mounting hardware but the missing L brackets makes the rails unusable

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible Quality Control

Pros: They look sturdy.

Cons: Arrived missing parts making them unusable.

Other Thoughts: I ordered 2 of these and both arrived missing all the assembly screws. One was also missing a pair of the L brackets you must have to mount the rails.

Newegg attempted to pass the buck quoting "OEM items may be missing accessories" but relented when I pointed out that the product images show all the items that should be included. In addition "accessories" doesn't fit the description of things that are required for the item to be properly assembled.

2 out of 5 eggsOk, but a pain to install.

Pros: Cheap, adjustable, slide in and out.

Cons: These rails come in a total of 8 parts, when 4 would be much better. Installation required a bit of work compared to other rails I have installed. Each rail has an L-bracket that must be mounted front and back. The screws for these does not screw tightly on the square holes that were on the existing rack system, making them a hair wobbly until everything was installed. The slider then mounts to L brackets and needs to be attached from the inside. You will literally need to be able to open all sides of the rack to properly install these. Once the rails are installed the rack case install was not quite as smooth as it could have been. The lock latches can catch while installing requiring holding them open in some cases to get the server case installed properly.

Other Thoughts: It's just rack rails, nothing that special. If you need a cheap adjustable sliding rail system, this will work just fine, just be prepared that the install will take a hair longer than planned.

2 out of 5 eggsGood Product, Bad Packaging

Pros: Easy setup, rolls smoothly

Cons: Purchased 1 intially, encountered no problems, install was easy, and the rails were delivered with all the required mounting brackets & screws.

Satisfied with the product, I purchased 2 additional sets. Only 1 was delivered, and it only came with 2 out of 4 mounting brackets, and the bag of screws was a random assortment that was incomplete.

Worked with newegg to file a claim with fedex for the set of rails that never showed up was easy. When my replacement rails arrived, no mounting brackets or screws was provided, only the bare railing system.

I bought 3 identical sets for sliding rails with newegg, yet all three are mounted in a different manner with different screws and mounting brackets I had to provide myself.

2 Stars for my experience.

2 out of 5 eggsmissing necessary hardware

Pros: Rails seem well made.

Cons: No mounting hardware was included, so I could not install these in my server rack. I have plenty of standard rack screws and washers, but these rails require something non-standard and small. Other customer reviews reference the mounting hardware so at one point in time Newegg must have included them...but not anymore. When I contacted newegg they told me since this is an "OEM" item, accessories and special packaging "might not be included", and they offered me a $5 credit. This is no help as I now have to spend time tracking down the specialty hardware directly from the manufacturer. Poor.............

5 out of 5 eggsGreat universal rail kit

Pros: These fit my 4U Logisys case with no issues. The sliders are smooth and quiet. When fully assembled, the rails feel sturdy and stable with a fully loaded 4U server case. I will be buying more of these rails as my home network expands.

Cons: The hardware that mounts the rails to the rack could be better. It's a universal system of concave square washers that fit into the square holes of a rack. The support arms are threaded and only able to accept the proprietary screws. A setup that allows for cage nuts would be ideal, but with a little persuasion, everything lines up and fits properly.

Other Thoughts: In a perfect world, these would be offered as 2 different items. One designed for round hole racks and one for square hole racks. Or, a universal Cage Nut solution would do nicely.

As other reviews have mentioned, each part is coated in a thin oil, not just the bearings. It wipes off of your rails and hands easily enough with paper towel, so keep some near by.

All you need to install these is a Philips head screwdriver and a small 5/8" (IIRC) wrench/socket to keep the hardware from spinning as you tighten it.

If you're looking for a good, cheap, and dependable universal rack system, this is it. Buy it now.

5 out of 5 eggsSmooth action and strong

Pros: Review by "Cisco Engineer" should be ignored, he/she did not install the screws in the correct orientation. The screw heads should be on the inside of the rail and the nut on the outside, then the rails will not catch on the screws as they slide.

Smooth action and strong. Can pull 4U case all the way out of the rack and at nearly 50lbs, the rails stay straight and slide smooth all the way. Not staying these rails are the best out there, but for the price...

They fit the iStarUSA D407PL-DE6BK case with ease.

Installed into an APC AR3107 (square holes), they provide the square-out washers.

Cons: The screws used to attach to rack are smaller/thinner than the normal rack screws, but 2 per side, 8 total hold a 50lbs case just fine.

5 out of 5 eggsNice slide action

Pros: Was a bit awkward to get together, but once together everything fits smoothly and unlike some lowend rail kits, this has nice smooth action.

Cons: Requires the smaller rackmount screws with the washers (provided). Would have been nice if I could have used the M4 screws that I use elsewhere in the rack.
