1 out of 5 eggsThese are garbage

Pros: I bought 2 of these on a shellshocker deal for $7.00

Cons: I 've been extremely careful with them from the day I got them because the HDD locks into the bay tightly. The hing is poorly designed and made of thin plastic. I don't hot swap with them that often but have had to replace one of them already because the design is so cheaply made that the plasitc hing broke off ( The Door ) and the bay is now useless ( at the land fill ), I had to use needle nose plyers to remove my hard drive and that wasn't fun and could've damaged my HDD.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy plastic hot swap bays or they will eventually break, unless you get them as a shellshocker deal for $7.00

5 out of 5 eggsNifty feature not mentioned in the Newegg Ad...

Pros: Unbeatable way to make a 2.5" HDD or SSD externally accessible while still flush mounted to the case.

Supports SATAIII just fine, despite the SATAII decals on the box.

Here's the best part, which Newegg neglected to mention:
It is the exact dimensions of a 3.5" hard drive. Even the interface/power connectors and screw holes are a perfect match. Once a drive is inserted, it can be installed anywhere that is intended for a 3.5" drive (not so for many simple adapter brackets!) or popped in and out of 3.5" hot swap bays like the Kingwin KF-3002-BK or KF-252-BK with surgical precision and reliability.

Cons: It's a little hard to get a drive out once it is inserted. The drive is supposed to auto-eject a small ways as you open the door, but you have to pull hard enough on the door that I get nervous about breaking the mechanism and wind up sticking a finger in there to pull on the drive at the same time as the door, just to be sure.

It supports drives up to 12mm tall, but most modern 2.5" hard drives and SSD's are only 9.5mm tall, leaving a small gap above the drive. If you flip the unit over with a drive installed, there is nothing to support the weight at the front and this puts angled pressure on the drive connectors in the back. They could conceivably break if the enclosure where in a briefcase or tool bag and it were upside-down long enough. This will, of course, not be a problem if it is permanently installed.

Neither of the above problems were significant enough to pull an egg, though.

Other Thoughts: This unit is great for servers and DVR's (especially rackmounted ones) wherein you want all of your drives accessible from the front of the case and a 2.5"SSD is being used for the OS.

4 out of 5 eggsCheap, works

Pros: Fits nicely onto drive rails, fits into drive cage like a 3.5" hard drive.

Cons: Poor airflow.
I knocked off an egg for the flimsy door. The door applies pressure to lock the drive in, and a fair amount of force is required to open the door. Flimsy construction bends with every use.

Other Thoughts: Would advice metal enclosure to be preferable.

1 out of 5 eggsDoes not line up

Pros: Sturdy construction.

Cons: I attempted to install this into an Antec 900 II, a very popular case. I had no trouble putting my SSD into the cage, but once I attempted to secure it in the hard drive cage that comes with the my case, the screw holes did not line up AND the screws would not fit into the holes provided. I had no issue with screws, etc. for any of my hard drives, so why is does this product have a different set up? I don't get it. Completely negates the purpose of the product.

Other Thoughts: Before I had the SSD secured into my case with double sided tape, and that worked better than using this product.

Pros: Works great and cheap

Cons: None, Works great and cheap

Other Thoughts: Make sure to use the closing of the drive door to insert the hard drive completely into the enclosure.

1 out of 5 eggsNot Good!

Pros: 2.5" drives fit perfectly, not expensive, Looks good.

Cons: Mounted a 2.5" drive inside and inserted into a 3.5" hot swap caddy in my computer that has worked perfectly for 4 years with all types and brands of SATA drives, and it would not connect. The male plugs on the back of the caddy do not line up and it will not insert.. Total waste of money for hot swapping which is what I needed it for!

5 out of 5 eggsjust what I was looking for

Pros: Exact size of 3.5" drive: this includes position of screw holes on sides and bottom along with the sata connector, so it should fit any case, drive bay or tray.

Saves wear on the 2.5" drive connector if you move it around a lot, much easier to replace this if it wears out than an expensive SSD

Latch is simple and won't open by accident

Cons: Not metal so if you have a really hot high rpm drive it will depend on your case/tray cooling

Doesn't lock but if you care your 3.5" bay can cover that

Other Thoughts: Slides into my trayless istar 3.5" drive bays perfectly (the new full aluminum type are nice)

I wish I had caught whenever that sale was, would've gotten more...I have lots of SSDs

For kicks while imaging it for a laptop I put a tiny msata ssd inside a 2.5" adapter inside this 3.5" adapter that went into a 5.25" drive bay slot :)

3 out of 5 eggsNice, at the sale price

Pros: Price; a simple device that does what it does.

Cons: None Yet. Expected this to accept 3.5 inch hard drives, but actually accepts 2.5 (smaller drives only). Still useful.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Design

Pros: Converts 2.5 drives to 3.5' drive size
Perfect to all SSD to become easily removable in a SATA Rack
Has a nice slide lock feature to prevent accidental opening
Has metal screw holes on sides if needed
Has Plenty of Ventilation holes

Cons: Price is a little high but was great at the promo price!

Other Thoughts: I wish i had ordered a bunch more when they were on special sale!

5 out of 5 eggsFits perfect!

Pros: Sturdy Construction
Front Door Latch with safety slide mechanism
electronics work perfect even with 6G SSD drive I used it on

Cons: I can't think of any except maybe higher price, without the deal I got it on.

Other Thoughts: This is an excellent sturdy way to transform your 2.5" drive into the size of an actual 3.5" SATA drive, which can then be slide in and out of any rack mounting system just as if it were a real 3.5' drive.
Perfect for what I needed it for, I have a 3.5" removable drive rack and needed this to be able to use my 2.5" drives also.
