Pros: Inexpensive Small footprint Looks good Built in power supply so no need for power bricks Very easy to add the drives (front loading trays)
Cons: - Network card was bad right out of the box. Of course Newegg shinned in the replacement process. - Loud fan - Throughput slow - No availability of drives being formatted and shared separately (RAID/JBOD necessary) - Shutting off device vi Web interface not working - No power save or shut off schedule available - Lack of online information might be a problem for novices
Other Thoughts: I mention the above cons more for information purposes for others that are looking at this device. The 2 eggs knocked off are for the fact that is was defective when received. lack of power saving mode and loud fan. The rest of the cons are understandable due to the price point of the device. For the money this is a good buy. I also have a Synology 410 NAS that costs more, but also offers more in options.

Great little box once you overcome the documentation and setup issues

Pros: Inexpensive and will do the job. Will run a stripped down version of Linux available thru members on the Patriot forum. I'll give Patriot an egg just for the forum...
Found out how to load Linux, enable hidden telnet & get all the functionality set up. Forum members also have the update file for bios... which Patriot seems to have dropped along with support for this box. (THIS NAS IS DISCONTINUED!) Box is small, solidly built and has a blue light bright enough to stand out even in bright rooms.
As usual - NewEgg shipped it so fast it was almost on the doorstep before I completed the order!
Running two Samsung 500gb drives as Raid 1.
Cons: I docked 2 eggs just because of Patriot's enigmatic set-up manual & lack of responsiveness to questions/issues posted on their forum. This box WILL do everything it is advertised as doing... it's really a great little NAS once you get it set up. It's the set up that will have you losing your mind. NOT recommended for someone with no network & server set up experience.
This NAS is DISCONTINUED so you'll have to dig for drivers & upgrade files on the forum. If you are in a hurry... skip on to a newer NAS from Patriot and visit their website first to confirm that all updates are available. (The forums ARE a good resource but in my opinion you should not have to rely on other users for update files.)
Other Thoughts: All of the upgrade files etc should not have been dropped from the Patriot site but fortunately members on the forum have stepped up to supply them... you'll just have to hunt a bit to get them all.
I do like this NAS - it works nicely and it is not as loud as some people say... you DO hear the fan when it cycles but it's a server box so who cares? Mine is located in the network room in our basement but even if in my room I wouldn't be worried with it.

Awesome little NAS

Pros: Good little box, inexpensive, Linux based, software updates on Patriot site, kewl looking, removable trays, super easy to configure. Depending on drive configurations I get anywhere from ~15MB - 25MB per sec on Gb network, read / write seems same. Build in power supply so no wall wart...
I'm really impressed with its high build quality, this is a little jewel of engineering (and I'm a design engineer my self...)
Cons: The cooling fan is noisy by my standard, for me silence is golden... It cost me a fortune to make my custom build PCs whisper quiet (thanks Newegg...) and I'll replace this fan with a quieter unit soon.
It cools good though, so keep it with 7200 RPM drives, replace it with Green drives only.
No other cons at this price.
Other Thoughts: The internal Power Supply needs forced air, hence the fan is necessary, (but this one is an over-powered a bit.) Patriot plays it safe for them excellent but hot running Hit@chi's, so 5 stars after all.
I would highly recommend this box, especially for iPod users - although I'm not one of them... I use it for storage only and HD video playback. Works perfect, what else to ask? perhaps for Patriot to keep designing such marvelous products...
