4 out of 5 eggsSimple and easy

Pros: Does a great job as a DAS storage for a mini pc to use as a media server.

Cons: Build quality isn't the best.

4 out of 5 eggsGood for what you pay for it!

Pros: It does what it says it does (Mostly-see other thoughts). Simple to set up and use. Mine came with instructions printed on a sticker on the bottom. Overall, it works very well and the price couldn't be better if you need something with a built-in RAID controller (my server is a mini-itx board with no pci slots and no built-in raid). It has a large fan to keep your drives cool and is fairly quiet. The door on the front has a dust-catching sponge type filter.

Cons: The build quality a bit shabby, but since it does just sit there and do its job it's no a big deal. The plastic rails you screw into the drive to mount them are pretty flimsy if you find yourself swapping drives often, but they're good enough, since you probably won't be. The exterior is a strong metal (probably heavy aluminum) and is solid, however.

Other Thoughts: When I first got the enclosure, I hadn't gotten the drives yet, so I threw in a couple of drives I had lying around to try it out. The drives were not the same size, so I set the dip switches for JBOD mode and hooked it up via USB. Instead of showing up as one large drive, it showed up as two separate drives. I formatted each one, then hooked it up via esata. This made it show up as one large unformatted drive. I then formatted it again and hooked it up via USB again and this time it showed up as one large drive. I thought I'd see if it was possible to grow the volume by adding a drive, but doing this caused the whole thing to show up as an unformatted drive, thus destroying your data. When I got my 4x @TB drives, I set the dip switches to RAID 5 and hooked it up via esata, and it is running perfectly well. I just don't think the the JBOD implementation works as well as it should, so if you plan on getting this, make sure all the drives you put in are the same capacity and use raid.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: So far, the hardware controller is good and performing well. No complaints about the hardware and the price for this is pretty cheap.

Cons: The build quality of the enclosure is pretty bad and the design of the enclosure is not very good. Removing drives is a pain. There is no mechanism to help remove a drive. You must pull it out using brute force with the cheap plastic brackets that come with it.

Other Thoughts: Overall, this is not a bad enclosure for under $200. Build quality kind of sucks but it functions the way it's supposed to. Low build quality but it functions perfectly. Great if you are on a budget.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks pretty well

Pros: Hardware Raid works petty well. Mine didn't come with printed instructions, but I downloaded them from the Habey site and the set up was a no brainier.
XP64 saw the Raid as one drive and I am using the mini tower in RAID 5 configuration. As they say "so far,so good". Shipping was fast from NewEgg as usual.

Cons: No paperwork. I had to go to the site and download it.

Other Thoughts: Does what I wanted and got it on sale from NewEgg as well. I am using it with two Sans Digitals on a separate software Raid. Warning! do not use hardware and software controllers on the same machine!
There is a major conflict if you do!
If you use the dip switch set up on a separate esata input like I have on my ASUS M3A79-T board, that is all you will need for it to co-exists with SATARAID 5 .
