5 out of 5 eggsExcellent for low-power applications

Pros: Very small; only requires two mounts; AC adapters are easy to find to match with included power jacks; very efficient and the onboard blue light adds to the overall appearance of the systems built with it.

Cons: Does not include an AC adapter; does not include any mounting kits or solutions, so you must provide your own standoffs or mounting solution, and fabricate a properly sized hole for the DC jack.

Other Thoughts: The lack of an AC adapter and some kind of installation hardware is inconvenient, but not too terrible. We had to fabricate a plate to cover the slot where the mini-ITX power supply used to be, and we also had to find a place to mount it in the case, as well as provide our own plastic standoffs. Fortunately, these processes weren't hard for our company to handle. Using our Kill-A-Watt device, we measured that this board with a 12V 6A AC adapter uses about 5W less power at the AC outlet than the mini-ITX supply it replaced! Excellent purchase.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent for embedded applications

Pros: - Great for embedded application such as car computers, and portable HTPCs, but be sure to have a 12V regulated inline supply!
- Very small

Cons: - (Unregulated 12V rail, again, be sure to have a regulated 12V inline supply!)

3 out of 5 eggsdo you research

Pros: does work. found a plug for it right away, not sure why the other reviewer had such a problem

Cons: 12 volt rail is not regulated, meaning what ever voltage you put into it you get out of it. had a voltage converter plugged into it was putting 14.5v into the power supply i was getting 14.5 volts to my motherboard, which was no good. upon further research the habey website states it is an unregulated supply. just glad it didnt blow my mb or cpu. needs like 12.2volts into it to get 12 volts at the rail.

Other Thoughts: had to buy bigger power supply than intended for my build, but keeping this around for a lesser build i will be doing in the future. i would imagine in a car application it would probably fry the computer if the car had any voltage spikes

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect

Pros: Designed for use in a car computer, previous reviewer wanted to use in a desktop computer?
11.2VDC - 14.8VDC is perfect for running off of a car's DC system, Just add a 15A fuse and its perfect for getting ATX power inside a car.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Previous reviewer is trying to use product for a non-intended purpose.

1 out of 5 eggsThe quest (for the power adapter)

Pros: Small size, looks well built

Cons: Difficult to find power adapter (120V to 12V) that physically fits the (unspecified) power adapter included with the unit.

Other Thoughts: I have dozens of different power adapters and wall warts with varying voltage, current, and sized fittings. I also have a large surplus electronics store nearby (one of the few remaining in the US). Absolutely no luck finding a power adapter which both fits the plug size and provides 11.2VDC - 14.8VDC with enough current (max of 12A).

Usually the voltage range is wider for this current range. I could experiment with 16V, but that could take out the adapter, maybe the power supply, and possibly the Atom motherboard (depending on what protection was built into the power supply for clamping the output voltage).

So, don't buy this power supply before factoring in the price of correctly sized adapter--unless, of course, you have lying around.

Manufacturer Response:

The power supply adapter for HB-LR1005-120W can be found here.
