2 out of 5 eggsIffy, very iffy....

Pros: Small design, reasonably good construction, copper wires, reasonably efficient.

Cons: Clearly used; had a fine layer of brownish dust on the inductor farthest from the power inlet. Seriously, I don't mind getting a refurbished product because it was in good condition, but clean the darn thing off!

Extremely weak 12 volt rail, it could not run an Intel Atom D2550 Mini ITX board with a 7200 RPM hard drive. It will run it with an SSD or a laptop hard drive. I tried to rectify this by using a relay to switch the CPU power plug and hard drive power (on the 12v rail) on and off but it apparently didn't like that; it went short circuit shortly after the mod (1 hour wasted, eh...). Looking on the specifications made me question whether or not the 12 volt rail was actually a buck/boost circuit though, seeing as it's rated up to a 14.8 volt input? That would explain the pitifully small 12 volt rail current but still seems impressive at this price point. Should have tested it while it was working! Would be nice as a car PSU at that point.

Other Thoughts: Either way it doesn't seem like a relay to switch on and off 12 volt power to the CPU would have hurt it, my supply puts out 11.9 to 12.1 volts from 0 to 3 amp respectively (3 amps being it's max rating). Gonna try to RMA it to Habey as it's still under warranty and I still can't see any good reason why my relay system could have harmed it (it worked fine for almost an hour, nothing was overloaded).

All in all, spend the $15 more and get the 90 watt PicoPSU. It's much better build quality, handles more current, and is ridiculously efficient.

Manufacturer Response:

All products we sell are brand new. If you think the one you received does not look like a new one please contact us and we will be more than happy to replace it for you with another one.

4 out of 5 eggsUsed.

Pros: Good design, small, cheap.

Cons: Clearly used, one end of it had coating of the fine fust that usually collects on areas of a computer case closed to fans. It was still in good condition, but the layers of dust clearly mean it was used, not new. This isn't a deal breaker, but enough to knock off an egg.

Other Thoughts: Compared to PicoPSU, this is better if you want a cheap option where efficiency is not as much of a concern, seeing as it's about half the price. I have not compared real world efficiency on this compared to my 90 Watt PicoPSU, but as this is being used in a HTPC that's only on for a handful of hours a week, it's not as important as my home server which is on 24/7.

I have it running a small Celeron 847 mini ITX home theater from a small 3.4 amp LCD monitor power brick. No problems whatsoever! I should add that it is only powering the motherboad and a couple USB devices; I'm using OpenELEC on a flashdrive connected to a NAS but I have no doubt that this setup would handle a laptop hard drive, maybe a desktop drive but that may be pushing it.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible

Pros: It works

Cons: It broke within 10 minutes of powering on, the craftsmanship is bad. The PSU is open and short circuited with a wire near it. I RMA'd it but due to some small scratches newegg didn't accept it at all. Although the problem was hardware and not cosmetic.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy it. Make your own micro atx combo case.

5 out of 5 eggsFANTASTIC efficient and silent ATX power solution

Pros: Paired with a commonly available 60W (12V 5A) or higher, 5.5mm x 2.5mm tip LCD monitor power supply, this power supply is a fantastic passive and efficient solution for low-power PCs. My company builds custom passive-cooling PCs with these and a custom fabricated metal plate that goes over the empty power supply hole in a compact case. Our corporate Linux router with an Intel D510MO Atom-based motherboard and a 32GB SSD is completely silent and runs around 17 watts of power consumption at idle. Running the same combo on the mini-ITX power supply it replaced, consumption was about 25 watts. Pairing a fully decked out Atom D525 with a SATA desktop hard drive and SATA DVD-RW drive, this supply still laughs it off with a maximum peak power usage of around 30 watts, which is only half its rating! If you need a truly silent custom-built solution, this is definitely THE power supply you need. However, see the Cons section for some caveats.

Cons: While the supply is a solid solution for low-power applications, there are two MAJOR problems that will need to be considered before buying:

1. This supply comes with NO MOUNTING HARDWARE. You must supply your own mounting solution. Driving a metal motherboard mount post into the center of two square adhesive zip tie mounts works fairly well.

2. Newegg regularly fails to ship all of the components shown in photos. We were happily using the DC power jack pigtail which mounts through a hole and uses a nut to lock down onto the metal plate...until Newegg's shipments suddenly didn't contain this part anymore. The black two-screw-mount pigtail doesn't come with mount screws. Again, custom mounting solutions may be required.

Other Thoughts: I have written to Newegg about the missing parts. Hopefully they will take care of the problem.
