5 out of 5 eggsWorks great (in win 8)

Pros: - works great, i installed the win 8 drivers from thier site and no hiccups what so ever.

- I am running usb 3.0 speeds from my external seagate 3tb drive.

- great quality product running for a half a year no problems.

Cons: NONE

Other Thoughts: I never heard fo them but this is a great brand. DONT FORGET TO CONNECT YOUR PCI CARD TO YOU PS. ITS NOT A SIMPLE PLUG IN PCI AND PLAY IT NEEDS A POWER CONNECTION.

3 out of 5 eggsGood, but ...

Pros: Works!

Cons: Requires an additional power cable (small 4 pin floppy power cable) and my HP H8 did not include one. Why sould they, since the last floppy I saw was 15 years ago! Emailed Mediasonic and they told me what power adapter cable to buy (about $7.00), but they were not willing to supply one. BEWARE because the card WILL NOT WORK without the additional power. Just add $7 to the cost!

4 out of 5 eggsWorks Fine

Pros: It was free with Seagate 2 tb HD. I saw a lot of problems listed in reviews. I received model HP 1 SU 3 USB 3 PCI e. Mine came with a required SATA power socket, which I connected. Others listed a mini molex. I installed in older computer that didn't have USB 3.0. the ASUS M4 A785 with Win 7-64 detected no problem, couldn't find Win 7 drivers. I then used the supplied driver disk, again no problems. I tested with USB 2.0 no problems. I don't have any USB 3.0 devices

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: The picture and reviews list that it uses a mini molex for power. I was prepared for that. To my surprise it uses a SATA socket for power facing to the center. This is great. Some the others use large molex facing down which would interfere with a larger Video Card.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works and does the job.

Cons: Cooling fan noisy makes clinking noise. Product support terrible. Try contacting them several times by e-mail several time with no reply. No phone number for support. Three eggs for this reason alone.

3 out of 5 eggsUpdate to previous review

Pros: See earlier review

Cons: See earlier review

Other Thoughts: I just tested the card with the power disconnected, and it did not work. To reiterate, this card does require a mini-Molex to work.

3 out of 5 eggsBig help for big transfers

Pros: If you transfer much data to or from an external HDD enclosure (or dock) that has a USB 3 interface, and your computer has only USB 2, this might be worth it to you. Transfers to my Thermaltake dock jumped from 25 MB/s, to 125 MB/s. And believe you me, if you've got to write a TB or three, this is a real difference.

Once I ran the included setup program, the card required no tweaking, and worked with no trouble.

Cons: No internal header, so my front panel remains at 2.0.

(Might) require a power connection (see Other Thoughts). Maybe this is no surprise to everyone else, and is not much of a Con, but since it was not part of the product description, I thought I'd mention it.

Other Thoughts: Win 7 did not recognize it automatically, and Device Manager would not simply find the driver on the disc. So I had to run the "setup" program, which is not my preference. However, the program and the driver it installed are small, so I don't think it did much more than it was supposed to (I have not yet scoured the registry for excessive entries).

The instructions do call for a small (think floppy-drive) Molex plug, so you'll probably want one available. (I imagine that the power supply might not be necessary if one is not using devices powered by the bus, but I have not yet checked. I will update with the answer, if I get around to trying it.)

4 out of 5 eggsFast, Works in Win7/64, No downloadable drivers

Pros: Works in Windows 7 64-bit with drivers from the included CD-ROM. Fast. For example, writes to a Seagate 3TB External drive run at 95+ Mbytes/second. Relatively inexpensive when a rebate is available.

Cons: Requires manual driver installation in Windows 7 64-bit. Drivers are included on a CD-ROM, but are not on Windows Update and don't appear to be downloadable. Better not lose that CD! Driver installation also installs a "USB 3.0 Host Controller Utility" that offers a single checkbox to enable/disable USB power management. This really should be controlled through device properties.

Other Thoughts: Installs in Windows 7 64-bit as a "Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller". Renesas appears to release new drivers to their OEMs frequently. It seems unlikely that Mediasonic will make updated drivers available, given that they don't offer any drivers through Windows Update or their website. This makes me uncomfortable in light of the numerous corner-case misbehavior that USB devices have historically exhibited.
