2 out of 5 eggsIt's okay - Tricky driver issues

Pros: It is a USB 3.0 card. Hitting peak/burst rates of 73MB/s. Got it with rebate.

Working drivers at https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=19880

Cons: Lack of website support.
No low profile bracket.
No documentation for troubleshooting.
Loose power connector
WIndows 8.1 driver didn't seem to function. Need drivers from the Intel website. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=19880

Other Thoughts: I was never able to find Firmware update, but it wasn't necessary.
Win8.1 installed a driver that didn't seem to do anything.
Once I installed the USB drivers from the Intel website, (Renesas USB 3.0) it started complaining about power issues. They eventually stopped, but nothing was being recognized. I touched the power cable and it came to life. The power connector on the card is very loose. I might have to tape it or something.

5 out of 5 eggs4X faster than USB2

Pros: Easy to install, fast, definitely worth the money for upgrading an older motherboard.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Works so well, I bought another one. I've owned both for almost 2 years now.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: Easy to install, don't need driver CD for Windows 7 SP1 install, 4X faster than USB2

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I tested this card by plugging a new 1GB USB 3 drive into my machine's [AMD Phenom II Quad core 920 with Gigabyte GA-MA790Z-UD4P M/B] native USB 2 port. Proceeded to transfer 8Gb of data to it while monitoring speed. Starts out at 120 Mb/s and trails down to 25-30 Mb/s within a few minutes. Repeated test plugged into this USB 3 card. Transfer rate never went below 100 Mb/s for the entire data transfer. FYI, I transferred the exact same data both time. Well worth the money. This is the second one of these cards I've purchased, to upgrade older motherboards.

1 out of 5 eggsSmoked up the room

Pros: Worked well for a 1 year and 9 months

Cons: And then it smoked up the room. Upon opening up the computer, the sata power connector had melted and the circuit board around it was pretty black. I also noticed that the wires to the connector was partially melted like it had been overheating. Glad I was in the room when it started smoking, Recommend anyone who has one of these installed inspect the power wire and sata power connector for overheating or if you occasionally smell something overheating in your computer.

Other Thoughts: Both ports were connected to USB hubs that had their own power adapters.

5 out of 5 eggsCheap, Works, GREAT!!

Pros: Installed easily, was a great price.
Driver disc that came with it was essential because I could not find any drivers online. but the ones on the disc worked fine with Win7 64-bit.

Cons: None really

Other Thoughts: bought it along with a 5TB external HDD.

5 out of 5 eggsRead the instructions.

Pros: So far so good!!!!

Cons: None as yet thou card has only been installed less than a week.

Other Thoughts: This was my first experience with a PCIe add-on card. This card has lain around for just over a year before I actually installed it in my machine and like most men, I didn't read the instructions first. After fussing with the card and driver for a couple of days I finally did read the guide. I had become frustrated that I repeatedly was getting a USB power bus error. I had to be missing something. I plugged in the SATA power connector and VIOLA. The card works better than my expectations. Allows me to transfer files to my external network backup drive in a flash.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Free

Cons: It was recognized in boot up but locked up after Bios looking for driver. loaded drivers and checked Bios and device was there but still locked up system did health check and there was a voltage problem. pulled it out after 6 times using different settings. could be the new board since it only has usb 2, but Pci is the same rev.

Other Thoughts: more for the junk pile

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Cheap

Cons: If the internal power connector is not connected (6-pin molex) and a device that requires power is plugged in (ie. usb hard drive) the unit will give a "power surge" message and will then permanently fail.

3 out of 5 eggsNever got to use this product...

Pros: - USB 3.0

Cons: - Updating drivers, disc was useless.
- Waste of money, see other thoughts.

Other Thoughts: Honestly I "NEVER" had the chance to use this product at all. I bought this item for a three year old desktop at the time because it didn't had any USB 3.0 ports and I was going to get ready to transition from USB 2.0 thumb-drive to 3.0 speeds. I did manage to install and update the drivers through some random website but never had the chance to test it out because I never had any form of USB 3.0 devices like a portable HDD or a USB thumb-drive that was 3.0 capable at the time. Overall I wasted $15 for nothing...

This may be a little of topic and or irrelevant but I ended up building my own PC about three months after I bought this product and well... I have like 8 USB 3.0 ports, which is a lot for my needs since I only have one USB thumb-drive that is 3.0 speed cable...
