The Mediasonic ProRaid HUR5-SU3 two-bay HDD enclosure offers a quick and easy solution when you need to add data storage to your computer. It accommodates two HDDs up to 8TB in capacity each, and supports RAID configuration of 0/1/JBOD/Single Drive to meet your needs for performance, data redundancy or capacity. USB 3.0 interface enables less waiting time with up to 5Gbps bus bandwidth. The clean exterior with timeless black finish and blue LED indicators allows a seamless fit with any home or office setting.

Raid Mode Features:

Single Mode: Computer will show up as two independent drives

JBOD Mode: Raid 0 Spanning mode. Two hard drive will show up as one large single drive. Spanning is an array (not Raid) that is written sequentially across two drives

Raid 0 (Stripping Mode): Two hard drives will show up as one large single drive but speed performance will boost up. The two hard drives will write data in "column" effect. This form of array splits each piece of data across both hard drives in segments. Data is stored between first hard drive and second hard drive. Raid 0 does not provide any redundancy, if one hard drive fail, all data is lost

Raid 1 (Mirroring Mode): Using this mode will require two identical hard drives. It will creates an extra copy (or mirror) set of data to second drive. The back up are more important for safe keeping and the available data only show up in one large single drive

Other Thoughts: I installed two WD NAS (non-Pro) drives in this enclosure, which couldn't be much simpler. The only challenge I had was with the jumpers you use to configure RAID settings, I wasn't sure at first how to interpret the drawing in the instructions. Using the RAID1 mirrored mode I ran a test using a free software program called NAS Performance Tester 1.7, and moved a 1000MB file from my computer, five passes Write and five passes Read. The results were very good with an average Write speed of 160.02 MB/s and an average Read speed of 2285.32 MB/s.
