5 out of 5 eggsExcellent expansion capabilities, solid construction

Pros: Four 2.5 inch drives, supporting thicker and thinner variants. Simplified power with one molex for the whole array. My mobo supports hot swap so this works well. Mostly aluminum construction.

Cons: Carrier is a little on the thick side...I had a tight fit into the bay of case when my LG DVDRW fit perfectly. It appears to be partially due to two screws on the case. It fit, though, without any mods.

Does not come with fans built in.

Other Thoughts: The blue/purple lights do not bother me. Handy switch in the back of the enclosure to turn the lights on/off. Each drive has to be attached with screws into the carrier. With SSD drives enclosure fans are likely unnecessary.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect Hotswap cage for 4 SSD

Pros: Simple install into Antec p180 case. less than 10 minutes for 4 drives. Vertex 4 slide right in and the supplied screws attached the drive right to the drive caddy.

Cons: none really besides the plastic handles but everything else is aluminium and really well built.

Other Thoughts: No fans in the cheaper model. And now for 100.00 you can get a 6 drive hotswap in 1, 5.25 slot.

5 out of 5 eggsLooks VERY nice, works well

Pros: Looks & latches better than the IcyDock I had (and returned). Yes the latches are made of plastic and can break if you try to FORCE it into closing. I never force these -- I always wiggle the tray so I can gingerly close the latch; I don't foresee these latches breaking on me for the 10 years I'll probably have it.

The LED's look much better than the ugly green ones that come with the IcyDock (which bleeds light everywhere through the vents as well--yuck).

Cons: For me there aren't any cons. I disable the purple activity lights (which didn't seem to work on certain drives anyways). I disabled them cause I have a blue lit case and want the 4 drive bay to match the system. Each drive has a power light that is blue. I just rely on the system case's HDD led for HD activity from any of the drives.

Other Thoughts: You should buy this if you want a good, affordable 4x2.5" drive bay. Do yourself a favor and disable the activity lights--yuck.

2 out of 5 eggsFlimsy

Pros: Looks nice, solidly built.

Cons: Drive latches break. Slightly oversized for 5.25" slot.
Led's don't show activity.

Other Thoughts: I bought this with a RAID card for a hotswap array on a new build. The cage barely fit into the bay - I think it will never come out, scratched metal visible on top where the bay ate it. Either it's oversized, or my case is undersized - but a Samsung Bly-Ray fits in there perfectly.

Hot-swap caddies require screws, no big deal, but after populating them with disks and installing to the cage, LED's light up but don't show activity.

Thinking something was wrong, I took the caddies out as per the instructions, and every single one of the blue plastic latches snapped.

Not particularly happy with that.

Now I can't even return it as the top is scratched and the caddies are broken, oh well. I honestly wouldn't reccommend.

5 out of 5 eggsNice

Pros: Solid construction
No fans
Blinking lights for each drive (blue for no action/pink for action).
Only one MOLEX power cable needed

Cons: Doesn't really fill out the 5.25 cut out. This is only an issue if you are looking really close

Other Thoughts: This is a solid backplane. I have 4 60 gig ssd drives in this back plane.
I am running one system drive and one Raid 0 drive with the remaining three bays. Does what its supposed to do built well, what else do you need.

3 out of 5 eggsNice enclosure... but

Pros: Fairly sturdy construction, (mostly aluminum), holds 4 2.5" ssd's in 1 5.25 slot. Stable with no glitches or failures in the time that I have owned it.

Cons: Price (not so if it was fully functional). The hdd led's stay on steady on mine no matter which way the switch is. Not really to worried about the led's though but I do expect them to work. Did not come with fans, but had spots for 2 fans, I expected fans to be installed.

4 out of 5 eggsGood for storage

Pros: Price, Fairly sturdy construction, (mostly aluminum), holds 4 2.5" ssd's in 1 5.25 slot. 4 adapters would cost this much and would take up at least 2- 3.5 inch hdd spots in the case. I would not attempt to hot swap as I am using on-board raid.

Cons: The hdd led's stay on steady on mine no matter which way the switch is. I emailed support about this but they haven't responded in over 2 months. Not really to worried about the led's though.

Other Thoughts: The depth of this unit is aprox 6.75" ( same as a short cd rom). Mine did not come with fans, but had spots for 2 fans.
There is enough air flow with a decent exhaust fan to keep most drive cool anyway.

3 out of 5 eggsGet the SATSASBAY425

Pros: Rigid frame and solid construction.
Nice Aesthetic
LED Toggle switch in back
Single power plug for 4 drives.
Supplied with SATA cables and plenty of screws.

Cons: Hot Swap bays will require some removal of top plate for drives taller than ~9.5mm.
No cooling fans in the back
LED toggle switch is a little hard to reach as it will align near the motherboard. Likewise with power plugs.

Other Thoughts: My main concern here is that there are two companies selling the same product. StarTech with the SATSASBAY425 and SunnyTech with the SNT-SS425. The products are identical except that StarTech's drives come with two cooling fans while SNT's have holes where the fans would go.

4 out of 5 eggsNice little unit!

Pros: 4x 2.5" SATA Hotswap Bays in a single 5.25" enclosure
Designed for SSDs (no FANs, nice and quiet!)
Single Molex Power Connector Keeps Things Clean
Solid Construction
Individual Power/Activity Lights per-Drive

Cons: Activity LEDs blink Slowly & in Unison

Other Thoughts: I bought this along with 4 small OCZ Vertex 2 SSDs for a compact fileserver for use @ LAN Parties. Spinning drives get crushed under this type of load so I can't wait to see how the SSDs perform.

I bought this because it's one of the few units that have individual drive activity LEDs. I'm fairly disappointed in the way they blink, though. With the SSDs configured in a RAID, they pretty much all blink in unison and at a very slow frequency (maybe 3 times per second). It's still better than nothing. Maybe I'll do some hacking and connect them to a H/W Raid card that has individual HDD activity headers.

The LEDs can run in 2 modes. 1.) "always on" mode, which turns a blue LED on when you insert a drive and keeps the LED on regardless of activity, and 2.) "activity" mode, which has a solid blue LED when the drive is powered up, and flashes that same led purple during drive access.

I'm taking one egg off for the slow blinking, but other than that it's a top-notch product!

5 out of 5 eggsNice!

Pros: Bought to house 4 OCZ Vertex 60GB SSD drives. The build quality is very good. I can't imagine I'll be hot-swapping much if ever, but the tray, shell, and latch design seem solid enough to withstand normal wear and tear. The LEDs are a perfect blue to match my Antec 900 case - there is a switch on the back to make them stay on solid rather than flash with activity.

Cons: Maybe price? I didn't need hot-swap, but this was about the best looking enclosure to hold 4 drives in that amount of space. Some other SNT models apparently have a switch to turn off the fans - this one did not, but that wasn't important to me. Power connector is Molex instead of SATA, which seemed odd to me, but not a dealbreaker either.

Other Thoughts: Some other reviews of SNT enclosures complained about the noise of the fans. I personally didn't even bother booting it up with them in to see if they were right. While installing, I took the SNT apart, and replaced the fans with two SilenX fans I already had. The header to connect the fans is non-standard, but that didn't matter for me since my motherboard had extra headers to plug the two fans into, and that's better anyhow because the mobo can control the fan speed.
