1 out of 5 eggsBeyond Horrible

Pros: Actually powers components

Cons: 1) This has never even powered any of my 8 fans properly (won't even reach speeds of 900 rpms). The fan molexes aren't spitting out enough power.

2) My PC is starting to have errors which are caused by the power supply (random shut downs, restarts, etc.)

3) RMA'ed it once because my first one was DOA.

4) Overpriced.

5) Antec customer support is disgustingly horrible.

I will never buy from Antec again.

Other Thoughts: 6800 GT PCI-E, Athlon 3700+, MSI K8N Neo4

Manufacturer Response:

We apologize for the problems you are having.

The "Fan Only" connectors should only be used with a MAXIMUM of 3 fans. This is stated in the manual. Here's the quoted text: You will find two dedicated fan connectors (marked "Fan
Only") to which you can connect your system case fans. Note: please don't connect more than three fans and do not exceed 1.0 Amps total connected equipment.

If the power supply is starting to fail, and you've only had it for about a year, you are still under warranty. Please call Customer Support at 1-800-222-6832.

5 out of 5 eggsVery reliable Power Supply!

Pros: Has never failed me! I am running 2 Nvidia 6800GTs, 4 case fans, 2 SATA drives and a X2 4200+ on this power supply and it is great!

Cons: None that I know of!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Power Supply!

Pros: Very Quite plenty of power for my 4200 AMD 64x2 set up.

Cons: If your using an older Mobo with a 20 pin and separate 4 pin connector be advised. Use the 8 pin connector on new power supply for your 4 pin connector on Mobo.I tried using 4 pin off the 24 pin and it didn't work.

Other Thoughts: I wanted to say Thanks to Newegg and to justin001 for his review on the using 8 pin connctor on older mobos 4 pin connector. It was very help full thanks.

4 out of 5 eggsGood stable power

Pros: So far this psu has supplied great stable power without producing a ton of noise. In my antec P180B I can't even hear it unless I have my ear almost pressed against it.

Cons: The one thing to improve this psu would be the use of modular cables.

Other Thoughts: Another great shipping job by Newegg.

3 out of 5 eggsDesign incompatibility?

Pros: I purchased 2 of these PSU's in April (6 months old). One just died (BSOD, then DOA). Newegg issued an RMA no questions asked and I received a replacement 2 days after they received the failed unit. The remaining PSU (on another identical system) is still working like a champ.

Cons: I'm wondering if this is a design issue that was resolved after April, as noted by fungicord below (it's a different unit, but maybe the design is similar). Using Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe, AMD 4800+, NVidia 7900GTX. The replacement cabling / connector arrangement was somewhat different. Maybe they also changed the design to be more tolerant of mobo timings. Serial # of the new unit D060700xxxxx.

Other Thoughts: Posted by fungicord on 7/27/2006 for NeoPower HE550: According to Antec support: There is a timing incompatibility between certain Asus motherboards (A8N and one other series I can't remember) and all ATX v2.2 compliant power supplies (not just Antec). You can solve the problem by updating your BIOS (as of 7/27/06, you have to use a beta). All of the newest supplies from Antec (serials beginning with S06 or higher) have been pre-modified to be Asus-tolerant, and won't need to be RMAed. Again, this is Asus' problem, not Antec's. The symptoms of the Asus incompatibility are very strict. Symptom 1: The computer won't boot, period. 2: The computer will randomly power off from Windows. There's no association with a particular activity in Windows. If it powers down only when you run certain applications (such as 3D games), then the problem is unrelated to this incompatibilit

5 out of 5 eggsWrong part sent by Newegg

Pros: Don't know yet

Cons: Newegg sent the wrong part. When you get it MAKE SURE IT'S THE TP-550 EPS 12V. I got the TP-550 ATX 12V and it is not the same. The EPS has the 1 connector I need to hook to my motherboard and the ATX does not.

2 out of 5 eggsDOAH

Pros: Newegg RMA'd it with-in 2 minutes of being on the phone. Thanks Newegg.

Cons: Dead on arrival.

Other Thoughts: Decided to go with the OCZ 700w, too many reviews on here warning about this taking their motherboards, ram, and video carsd. I just bought 2 7900GTO's, I can't risk that.

4 out of 5 eggsFry an egg

Pros: Good load cababilities.

Cons: This PSU runs very hot for the relatively light loads I've put on it. Also, fixed cables are a pain to deal with.

Other Thoughts: I'm afraid to see what happens to the temperature when I really put this thing to work.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty Good

Pros: Exceptionally smooth power with few fluctuations, near silent operation and built solid.

Cons: Runs hot. Very poor fan support. Not modular (huge bundle of cables you have to do something with).

Other Thoughts: As stated, this puppy runs a bit on the hot side and the fans hardly move above 1000RPMs. Don’t hook up any fans to it via the supplied “Fan Power” cords; temps have to go above 40c in the case before they kick in (yep, I tested it).

Great power supply though.
