How do you get 400W of power with no noisy fan and no overheating problems? That's the power of ZEN. Ok, it really has to do with the large, efficient heat sink on the bottom of the unit. This is a great addition to a home theater or studio computer where minimizing noise is important. The 80%+ efficiency of this PSU also helps to minimize heat.

All of the connector cabling is wrapped in mesh for minimal tangling and easy management. The 4 SATA and 6 Molex connectors give you plenty of power for your drives. A 6-pin PCIe connector gives your video card the extra power it needs.

  • newegg ATX12V v2.2 Compatible Compatible with the ATX12V v2.2 standard, the FSP Group ZEN 400 power supply provides maximum power stability to drive the latest Intel and AMD processors as well as other system components.
  • newegg 400W Maximum Power A maximum power of 400W delivers safe, reliable output for average computer systems.
  • newegg 80 PLUS Bronze Certified The 80 PLUS Bronze certified power supply provides high power efficiency of at least 82% at any load between 20% and 100%, saving your money on your electrical bill, reducing heat in your computer's system and prolonging its life.
  • newegg Complete Silent Operation The FSP Group ZEN 400 features a huge high-efficient heat sink at the bottom and stream air ventilation holes at the sides to substitute a noisy cooling fan for complete silent operation.

Coming Soon!

Pros: -

Cons: -

Other Thoughts: it's a part of the previous review - I wanted to add video to show the reason (bad condensers)

4 out of 5 eggsPerfect, except not modular

Pros: Silent. Stable. Worked for over a year now without a single problem, in a case with so-so ventilation still cool to the touch.

Cons: Took off an "egg" for not being modular. That's very useful in a minimalist case. But as long as you know what you're getting, it's still a great PSU.

5 out of 5 eggsGREAT PSU

Pros: Dead quiet, high efficiency, VERY reliable! I have mine in an nMediaPC HTPC case that sits in the sun a great deal of the daytime. No heat related issues... No issues at all! It's been a flawless performer throughout all circumstances.

Cons: None.
Some say price is a con, but silence is golden. I paid half again as much nearly a year ago and I'm still happy.

Other Thoughts: Surprisingly heavy, but it makes sense that heat sinks would be heavier than fans.
Works fantastic in my HTPC:
nMediaPC HTPC 6000S case, Intel DG45ID MoBo, 2.66GHz Core 2 Duo, 8GB RAM, 64GB SSD boot drive, and Bluray burner. This is a great TIVO HD companion because it can transcode .tivo files and burn them to Bluray.
Thinking about a 3rd HTPC and if I don't go for an Atom/Ion I'll buy another of these for the next system.

4 out of 5 eggsDead silent...but warm.

Pros: Absolutely quiet. Perfect for a DAW or other audio-oriented PC.

Cons: Generates a lot of heat - make sure your case has *excellent* passive ventilation or expect to add a couple of (quiet) case fans.

Other Thoughts: I'm running this in a 3U rack case along with four SilenX fans and you can barely tell when the computer is on...sometimes I actually have to check for the power light.

Make sure 400W is enough.

5 out of 5 eggsAlmost 3 years on... still works great!

Pros: I bought this power supply in April of 2007 while building a passively cooled silent system. It has worked flawlessly since then.

I'm no longer running a silent, fanless system. In fact, I've replaced virtually all the major hardware components since 2007, but this power supply remains.

To give you an idea of what kind of load the power supply handles, I'm currently using it with:

* AMD Phenom II X4 3.0Ghz (95W) CPU (stock HS/fan)
* ECS GF8200A motherboard
* 4 GB DDR2 800 memory
* Radeon HD 4770 PCIe video card
* 16x DVD-R
* 250 GB Western Digital SATA II hard drive
* 500 GB Seagate SATA II hard drive
* Four USB devices (scanner, printer, wireless keyboard/mouse, wireless NIC, USB hard drive)
* two 120mm case fans

Cons: Kinda pricey.

Other Thoughts: It's expensive, but it's been rock solid reliable for me-- not to mention dead quiet!

Now that I'm back to running a traditionally cooled (read: loud) system I'd probably go with a cheaper fan-cooled power supply today. But if silence is golden to you then this power supply is worth the extra cost.

5 out of 5 eggsWhere is the competition?

Pros: This is the only fan-less power supply on NewEgg, where is the competition. Had no problem installing, cables adequate. Only 2.4ghz CPU, one disk drive and modest GPU. This is a PC HDTV hook-up and needs to be quiet.

Cons: Need more selections, where is Antec?

3 out of 5 eggsPoor Quality Sata Connector

Pros: Quiet. Reliable.

Cons: One sata connector split lengthwise into two. This sorta mars an otherwise blissful experience.

Other Thoughts: I repaired the connector with tape. This is not something I expected from a costly PSU. PSP, how about spending a few extra pennies on better plastic? i probably will buy a different brand next time.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome.

Pros: SILENCE! ... passive cooling, and yet it doesn't really get that hot. This thing is perfect for my home file server. Cables are braided nicely and have plenty of length to them.

Cons: It's heavy, yes, but not heavy enough to make me worry about my case failing to hold it. Modular cables would have been cool, but it's not that big of a deal for my application. I wish there were more passively cooled PSUs out there.

Other Thoughts: Used in my energy-efficient, low-noise home file server running Ubuntu.
