The Athena Power AP-U1ATX30A is designed for the 1U form factor to provide compact flexibility for a small industrial computer rackmount chassis. It provides dual 40mm ball-bearing fans and thermal fan speed control for maximum heat and noise dissipation. It also supports 20-pin ATX v2.2 motherboards.

  • newegg Active PFC and Full Range Input The Active PFC and Full Range function provides a smarter PSU. It’s able to detect the differences of wattage that is needed to power up your system; you can rest assured that it will provide and maintain the most suitable power needed for your system.
  • newegg Dual Fan The dual fan (one is mounted in the front and one is in the back) design is targeted to maintain a reliable source of power and keeping the system cooled. The rear fan intakes the heat that is produced inside the server or system and pushes it through the front fan, which is positioned towards the exit points of the server/system. This keeps the motherboard and hard drives cool.
  • newegg Smart Auto Fan Speed Controller With its thermal fan speed control, it will detect the amount of heat generated by the computer and spin accordingly. Using this controller to detect the heat levels of the PSU, it will adjust the fan speed accordingly. With this feature built in, worrying about the heat level of a PSU becomes almost non-existent.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent bang for the buck!

Pros: Fits in the Supermicro 1U case and aligns with mounting holes. Powers the server with all 4 drives installed. Very quiet. Has all the needed connectors and more!

Cons: None so far

1 out of 5 eggsDon't Buy

Pros: I built a server inside of a case from a gutted VCR. The PSU fit great for what I needed it for.

Cons: The server ran for a couple months then suddenly died. When I finally got a chance to test it, it was the PSU. DEAD. A PSU that is designed for a server should be able to run 24/7/365.

Other Thoughts: Wish I didn't wait so long to test it as I am now outside of warranty. I take the blame for that one.

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggsmissing bracket

Pros: it is a power-supply, came with screws and a couple zip-ties

Cons: did not include the bracket, so i can't mount it.

Other Thoughts: building my first blade server/first computer (lol) so i didnt fully understand the abbreviations on our dead hardware, i now know that the "m" in the letter soup stands for "micro" so our old brackets do not fit this not-so-micro atx 1u psu.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Power Supply So Far

Pros: Cheap, Cool, Quiet. I purchased 2 of these to replace failed power supplies in some ASUS RS100-E4/PI2 machines. They are slightly longer than the default power supplies, but they fit with enough space to spare.

Cons: Not much a con, but I wish the fans were faster. It is a server power supply, I wish it would push more air.

oh and it dropped $10 in price soon after I purchased it :(

Other Thoughts: I hesitated at first because other reviews complained about this power supply getting very hot. I can tell you that this was not the case. So far so good!

3 out of 5 eggsAhh Well

Pros: It's a Power supply

Cons: Given Sizes not Correct.

Other Thoughts: We bought this for a specific Fit, based on the shown Sizes, however they are off by about a Half inch, making it almost a full 8" long. Which won't fit in our Chassis.

Manufacturer Response:

We at Athena Power would like to assist you in finding the correct form factor PSU for your chassis, please call us at (626) 810-5008 or e-mail us at so we can further assist you. Thank you.

3 out of 5 eggsDecent budget 1U PSU

Pros: Cheap, provides enough power for a Q6600 server with 2 HDDs and a DVD drive. Somewhat reliable. Side fan is positioned perfectly to remove warm air from the CPU area in my 1U servers.

Cons: Extremely loud, high-pitched annoying sounding fans (like almost all 1u fans). Do not put this in your home, put it in a datacenter. Not bulletproof-reliable, out of 4 or 5 I've had one die so far and it's beyond the 1-Year warranty. I'm buying a couple of extras to keep around for when the others start to burn out. Deducted 1 star for the so-so reliability and short warranty, and 1 star because newegg raised the price by $10. Found them elsewhere at a lower price.

Other Thoughts: If I knew more about server PSU brand reliability I might spring for a more expensive but more reliable brand of PSU. However for now I'll have to settle for quantity over quality and just deal with server outages as they happen.

1 out of 5 eggsRed HOT (THINK HEAT) Power supply

Pros: It turns on and powers the computer.

Cons: This power supply gets REALLY hot. If you touch the server chassis above where this is mounted, you will not be able to hold your hand there. This is the least expensive 1u PSU, and you get what you pay for.

Other Thoughts: The picture shows a fan on the side of the psu, but Athena says this is discontinued. We had more than 5 of these in production, and the ones that did not overheat have been replaced. We have had units with the side fan and without, but they both get equally hot. Spend a few dollars more and get a brand that does not make your chassis an oven.

5 out of 5 eggsExcelent 1u PSU

Pros: I needed a power supply with a side fan to help with airflow in the case and SATA. This one has both. It works great for the project I am using it for. Would not hesitate to buy another.

Cons: I ordered 3 origionally as I had 3 machines to build. The first 2 were fine but when I opened the 3rd I found that it was an older model without the side fan and the SATA power built in. I took a look and the SKU on the box is the same. I have sent it back for RMA and replacement hopefully with the same one as the other 2...
