1 out of 5 eggsGreat concept - poor execution

Pros: As a power supply, it does fine... BUT if all you want is a 400W power supply, WHY ON EARTH buy THIS one??

Cons: As a HOT-SWAPPABLE, DUAL-REDUNDANT power supply, this product FAILS on all counts (again, except for the "being a power supply at all" part).

I purchased 5 units for 5 servers at 3 different client sites - all in 2008. FOUR have now failed...
Now mind you, if the hot swappable part had failed, and all I needed to do was swap the redundant supply out, then this baby would be getting 5-stars! But it's the MAIN UNIT that is failing.... THAT means that instead of giving you a warning signal that something has failed, it just stops. No warning, no redundancy, no NOTHING! It just fails (hmmm... JUST like a single-unit power supply would for 1/3 the cost!)

Main units fail in 1-2 year lifespan with no warning
As previous poster noted, bulging caps is an indication of penny-pinching - not what you want in a REDUNDANT POWER SUPPLY!!!

Other Thoughts: Why would you use this supply unless you wanted/needed a reliable, hot-swappable, redundant power supply.

Under normal circumstances, if a product did 90% of what it was supposed to, but failed 10% after 2 years, I'd only ding it one, maybe 2 stars... but why buy THIS supply if you aren't looking for high availability? And for a Highly Available supply, this unit is absolutely the WORST you could imagine -- it lulls you into what it turns out is a FALSE sense of security!

5 out of 5 eggsYes you CAN buy replacement modules!

Pros: Another reviewer commented that you could not obtain replacement modules, this is NOT TRUE. I called up Athena Power and the rep answered immediately and was extremely friendly and helpful in referring me to RackBuy.com. I emailed them and they said they sell these modules for half the cost of a new unit. Very reasonable. I've only had the unit about a week or so but it is very heavy duty and seems high quality to me.

Cons: I did have to return the first unit I received because one of the plastic latches which hold the replacment modules in the bay had already become worn to the point where the module would fall out if the psu were tilted at a high enough angle. The Etasis unit I also bought uses metal latches which are less prone to wear.

Other Thoughts: Do not expect to put this at the rear of any 2U or 3U case, it is way too big. I am going to try one with a front mounted psu layout, if it works it will be a very tight fit.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Good price. Dual power cords for redundant/diverse power sources. Overall very pleased with the four or more we've purchased.

Cons: Have to modify (drill & tap) included brackets in order to mount into 4U EverCase. Not sure why NewEgg went up $20 since my last order.

Other Thoughts: Haven't had any failures or reliability concerns, but all have been fed stable input line voltage.

2 out of 5 eggsnot real happy

Pros: Does what it is supposed to do by falling over to the other PS

Cons: After 18 months of use. One of the units expired. Called Athena and they do not fix or sell modules for their power supplies. So expect to have to buy a whole new one if it fails out of the one year warranty.

Other Thoughts: I opened the module up to find 8 swelled up capacitors. Cheap brands. They do not use quality componets in their supplies, so I would rate their reliablity low. And that's pretty bad for a server supply.

5 out of 5 eggsRedundant power at a great price!

Pros: Hot-swappable, redundant power which fits in most rackmount cases. Status LEDs for the front of the case. A loud buzzer indicates power supply failure. Great price.

Cons: Fans are very loud. It doesn't bother me, as it's in a rack.

Other Thoughts: In building a new Exchange server, I had considered putting this upgrade off for cost reasons. After looking at other power supplies, I decided that I couldn't find one I was comfortable putting in my server for under $xxx. Suddenly, this seemed like a no-brainer.
