1 out of 5 eggsDon't WASTE your money

Pros: Worked great for four or five times then it was DOA.

Cons: Tried to phone Cintre for RMA, the phone is always busy and they won't answer any emails. Read the reviews for similar products but don't buy this brand.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Has potential to make a SATA hard-drive a removable or back-up disk.

Cons: Doesn't work with Vista. Product support is useless

4 out of 5 eggsI didn't have many problems.

Pros: 1) In USB mode, works under FreeBSD-6.1 and supports 40 MB/s:

umass0: JMicron USB to ATA/ATAPI Bridge, rev 2.00/1.00, addr 2
umass0: SCSI over Bulk-Only; quirks = 0x0000
da0: 40.000MB/s transfers

2) Aluminum case
3) Quiet fan
4) Has both "Legacy" and SATA power connectors

Cons: Airflow not very optimal (though still better than fanless enclosures)

Other Thoughts: To address other people's complains, for me:
1) The screw holding the front panel DOES NOT get loose.
2) The hard drive is held in place by TWO screws, not one, and screws are not stripping their holes (unless you use a jackhammer instead of hard drive)
3) Yes, outside SATA connector is SATA, not eSATA, but then again, SATA brackets for motherboards are easily abailable.

4 out of 5 eggsNot as bad as some eople say it is

Pros: 1. Has a SATA connection and supports SATAII. 2. Has a fan and fan switch. 3. Has a power light and on/off switch. 4. Supports USB2.0. Conclusion, basically, it works.

Cons: In order of importance but still minor things - 1. No read/write LED for SATA usage, the red LED for read/write works only during USB usage (Cintre confirmed this). 2. Fan sw not attached inside on one side but no sweat, never changing fan setting from ON anyway. 3. No rubber mounts so you hear HDD noise through table so just mounted on a rubber pad.

Other Thoughts: Using it with a Qnap TS-101 as a USB QRAID backup. The other guy needs to find the other HDD screw on the side - there are TWO screws to hold the HDD, not one. There is only one tiny screw to hold each end cap but it works fine. Gave it a 4 out of 5 because the read/write LED should work for SATA as well as USB.

4 out of 5 eggsBetter rating than previous.

Pros: Nice case, simple construction (even though this seems to be an issue for others). HD is held in place with opposing angle screws, interesting concept (Previous poster take note of that please).

Cons: considering the price= none.

Other Thoughts: I order from newegg frequently, and a lot of bad reviews are not justified-- take with grain of salt. This case has a fan and is better than the other cases I've owned. I have two of them now and if you put the screws in tight there's not a problem-- but if it is: man invented blue loctite.

2 out of 5 eggsWorks fine, but one fatal flaw

Pros: +Detected on all Windows machines I've tried
+Doesn't require software to be installed on other machines
+Fan works
+Cables are sufficient length
+Comes with a mini screwdriver for installation and directions
+Can either plug into motherboard directly or USB via the switch on the back (aka the poster below me is a tool that can't read and notice that one side of the switch clearly says USB and one says SATA)

Cons: -Front plastic panel is held on by one screw that is loosens very often due to the vibrations of the hard drive causing a rattle. Must tighten approximately every two weeks so I guess it's a good thing they tossed that screwdriver in the box, eh?
-This is the big one, it is a MASSIVE ISSUE CAUSED BY ONLY IGNORANCE IN THE DESIGN PROCESS! There is **ONE SCREW** holding the hard drive in place. Yes, that's right, ONE SCREW! asdfpoijaerp--Basically what this means is that taking this supposed portable device risky because your HD is bouncing around in the gd box. Beyond that, when the HD is moving around because it's only held by one screw--it is SLOWLY STRIPPING THE SCREWHOLE, thus making you oh so close to voiding your HD warranty!
-Don't pay their rebates (bought elsewhere so I can't get Newegg to help /cry)

Other Thoughts: Didn't buy this from Newegg, but I'm going to have to recommend that you don't buy this from here--or anywhere.

If they wouldn't have been too cheap to, oh let's say, put in at least one more screw hole so that people don't void their warranties or cause their HD to fail from it bouncing around against the aluminum enclosure, then this device would easily get a 5 out of 5 by me. Basically, if you're using this as a stationary device then get it, but if you're using it for mobility, which is what I based my rating upon because that is what the device is intended for, then look far away from this thing.

1 out of 5 eggsWorthless

Pros: Has an SATA connection.

Cons: Not external, bad fit, poor design. Flimsy.

Other Thoughts: You want to make sure you get a SATA with an external SATA connection. To use this enclosure you have to actually plug it into your motherboard... which isn't all that external.
