5 out of 5 eggsWorks for me

Pros: I tried a half dozen kvm's before this model.Dang near gave up on the concept. The TK801R changed my mind. It does what it's supposed to do without trying to run your life or sell you something you don't want.

Cons: I'm about 6 or 8 months into my third one of these. The first two lasted about 3 1/2 years each. So divide 42 months into the price, and even with shipping,it's only a little over $2 a month. That works for me,it may or may not for you.

Other Thoughts: I strongly recommend getting p/s 2 to usb cables. The newer motherboards are coming with no VGA or p/s2 ports. These cables are compatible with any m/b in common use.

If in any doubt,GO LONG! Taking up slack with twist ties is cheap. Being a foot short is expensive

1 out of 5 eggsTotal junk

Pros: It functions, barely.

Cons: This KVM seemed fine at first glance, but when I connected it up to our server rack, its deficiencies became clear:

* The rackmount hardware is about 3mm too narrow to actually fit into a standard threaded 19" rack. Just to make sure I wasn't doing something boneheaded, I actually opened the manual to find *their* instructions on how to do this. The person in the picture is actually attaching the brackets *backward*! I'm starting to get a feeling of poor QC here... Anyway, I only attached one side-- the other side is held in with a paperclip until I can get my dremel in here.

* The VGA D-block connectors are *not compatible* with bog-standard KVM cables. The connectors on the KVM switch are female-- they should be male. So you either have to buy new cables, or go to Radio Shack and get a gender changer for your VGA plugs.

* Not compatible with all keyboards. The first one I plugged in did not work.

Other Thoughts: Very disappointed with this KVM. Too bad I didn't buy it at NewEgg-- I'd send it back. But I bought it through another vendor. Hey, NewEgg, when are you going to get a corporate purchasing dept already?!!

Also, NewEgg, a "screw" is a fastener. After you've used it, you've "screw-ed" it in. This is not an offensive word!

2 out of 5 eggsDon't go cheap

Pros: I works fine for about 1 year

Cons: After a year it will give you problems. First one of the ports won't work at all. You might get video but no mouse or keyboard. Then one day your keyboard will start sticking on your other ports and then your mouse will stop responding for 3-5 seconds at a time. Finally you won't be able to use any ports at all.

Other Thoughts: Tech support is great and they will help you during the warranty period. RMA's and replacements are fast too. I know this because this is my second one and it's doing the same thing at around the same time as my first one.

2 out of 5 eggsserver issues

Pros: 2u rackmount with easy install. Front panel visuals are good

Cons: will not sync with NVidia, ATi, or GeForce. We had to remove two units from WIN Server 2003 installs. Unit could NOT support server units. No SYNC on PS/2

Other Thoughts: documentation was just marketing sales tool. no technical info supplied for trouble shoot.

4 out of 5 eggsQuality unit

Comments: This is a nice peice of hardware for monitoring several computers from one kb/monitor/mouse. The only complaint I have is that it seems to make the mouse very sluggish, although the keyboard works fine. Sine we aren't actually working on these machines, it suits me fine, but I believe it would drive me insane if I needed to actually use the mouse often.
