3 out of 5 eggsalmost works

Pros: Nicely built, good value, great features. Video looks reasonable.

Cons: Picky about mice. A wired IBM branded mouse didn't work at all (works fine connected directly). A wireless Logitech almost works (see below), a wired Dell mouse works perfectly.

The Logitech m710 wireless keyboard/mouse doesn't work at all (as expected).

Other Thoughts: My wireless Logitech M310 mouse *almost* works. The buttons and scroll wheel work, but moving the mouse right to left moves the cursor up and down. Moving it up and down does nothing. Works find plugged in directly. Can someone tell me which wireless mice work? I'm not attached to this one.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for the inconvenience. The GCS1734 is an emulated KVM so there is no guarantee it will work with a wireless keyboard however IOGEAR makes wireless keyboards and mice that will work with this KVM.Our KVM’s emulate a standard 102 key, keyboard and generic 2-button scroll wheel mouse. The reason for this emulation is to allow the hot key functions to operate. A side effect of the emulation is that in most cases the special key sequences required for gamming, and key programming will not translate correctly through the KVM, for gamming we recommend connecting directly to the computer.

Although our KVMs will work with most wireless keyboard mouse sets, we cannot promise an individual multimedia / programmable keyboard and mouse set will work through the KVM.

Due to the large number of manufacturer's and each manufacturer's wide range of models it is impossible to maintain any meaningful compatibility list. Once again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

4 out of 5 eggsNever a Problem

Pros: Very versatile. allows the user to switch USB accessories, audio & video feed along with keyboard, video and mouse or not, as needed.

Cons: USB 1.1. rather than USB 2 (or now 3)

A USB cordless mouse or keyboard may not work with the dongle in the keyboard or mouse ports, but work for me in either of the two vanilla USB ports. Minus an egg for that.

Other Thoughts: If there were an upgraded version with more recent USB standards and/or more robust wireless input device support, I'd upgrade in a heartbeat.

I'm very happy with the unit in my current PC and Mac setup.

3 out of 5 eggsNot compatible

Pros: Compact, attractive, lots of connections.

Cons: Cables seemed stiff, and would seem to be a hassle if you had the unit on your desktop. The connectors were a hassle to get on, as there was little room between for each workstation connector.

Other Thoughts: After several months of trying to get a replacement for my old PS/2 KVM, and be able to use my more updated motherboards, I finally settled on this one. I did read that IOGEAR did not guarantee that all mice, keyboards would be supported. I have Microsoft wired periphals, and this unit would not recognize either of them. The video thruput was excellent, and I received power through to the keyboard, but could not use it to enter my workstation. The mouse light came on, but there was no response to any movement.
Of course, this happened over the weekend, and on a Holiday Monday, so getting through to the manufacturer did not happen. The unit has been RMA'ed.

Manufacturer Response:

First, thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for your experience. Our KVM’s emulate a standard 102 key, keyboard and generic 2-button scroll wheel mouse.

You can also try using the mouse in a rear peripheral port. This will correct most issues like you described. I will have you cable comments forwarded to the product manager for his review. Again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks...

Pros: Easy set-up. Cables provided fulfill most needs.

Cons: Doesn't seem to work with my wireless mouse and keyboard. Also have a problem switching between the two systems, probably just a configuration I haven't messed with yet.

Other Thoughts: I have a 3 monitor set-up on one laptop, trying to change to have 1 monitor dedicated to a desktop (wired) and 2 monitors on my laptop wireless. I have Logitech K3
60 wireless keyboard and M215 wireless mouse.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for the inconvenience. To better service you and understand your set up, please feel to contact our customer support at 1-866-946-4327 or email us: support@iogear.com. Once again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome. Wish there was support for 5.1 audio AND USB Headphones

Pros: USB!! I just purchased my second one. I can finally use USB KB and Mouse after many years of using 10yo PS/2 KVM. Love that the cables are included and they are decent length. Hot Keys and the ability to switch KVM only without switching sound is really nice.

Cons: Not able to use USB Headphones with this setup, even though you can connect them to the shared USB port.

Other Thoughts: Not a knock against this, but support for 5.1 / 7.1 audio would be really nice.. just analog with the 5.1 / 7.1 connectors, but SPDIF ports would be a nice addition to an already awesome product. I don't think there is a product out on the market with this feature, but if I could get one just like this with 5.1 at a minimum, I could also connect a 5.1 speaker system to this. Most computer motherboards have 5.1 / 7/1 audio built in, so this is a no-brainer.

1 out of 5 eggsIncompatible with wireless mice/keyboard

Pros: Looks good, comes with cables, good quality overall

Cons: Incompatible with my wireless mice/keyboard combo

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for your experience. Our KVM’s emulate a standard 102 key, keyboard and generic 2-button scroll wheel mouse. The reason for this emulation is to allow the hot key functions to operate. 5 out of 5 eggsGood 4-port KVM

Pros: Hot-key or pushbutton operation. Good video quality. Audio switching. Easy hookup.

Cons: none.

Other Thoughts: I replaced a dying 10-year old Iogear PS/2 KVM with this and I'm satisfied. The video quality is very good (A similar DVI model goes for almost twice as much) and sufficient for my needs. This has the added bonus of being able to switch the Audio between CPUs.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Reasonable Size
Offers sharing a pair of usb ports
Reasonably priced

Cons: These were removed for security reasons for out work. They were set up on 2 segregated networks and printers shared between the 2. This became a security concern.

We also use keyboards with Smart card readers and the readers do not function while plugged into the keyboard port. They need to be plugged into the rear of the device, and this means manually switching.

Other Thoughts: We had some issues with printers having to be unplugged and then plugged in again but over all, this device worked out ok.

3 out of 5 eggsIOGEAR GCS1734 4 port Mini KVMP Switch.

Pros: Neweggs service and delivery. Price for a high end KVM is good. Very nice appearing unit. Cables are more than enough for length.

Cons: I could not use it with the current mouse and keyboard I have. They are Microsoft Intelli Mouse and Logitech Illuminiated keyboard. At computer shut down the mouse and keyboard remain on. It did work with another set.

Other Thoughts: A shame, I really like IOGEAR products. I RMA ed this and Newegg was great about taking it back. It is not something I normally do.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for the inconvenience. The GCS1734 is an emulated KVM and made to work with a basic USB keyboard and mouse. One option that can be used is to connect the mouse or keyboard to a USB peripheral port. The only downfall is you would have to manually switch the KVM if the keyboard is not connected to the keyboard console port. Hot key switching would not be available. To better service you and understand your set up, please feel to contact our customer support at 1-866-946-4327 or email us: support@iogear.com. Once again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

3 out of 5 eggsSwitch

Pros: Does some of the things it says quite well.

Cons: Mouse isn't working in the designated mouse console plug. There is some motion but not in all directions. So I have to use two mice.

Often I need to press auto config on my monitor after switching to center the screen.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for the inconvenience. The GCS1734 is an emulated KVM and made to work with a basic USB mouse because of built in mouse emulation. One option that can be used is to connect the mouse to a USB peripheral port on the back of the GCS1734. To better service you and understand your set up, please feel to contact our customer support at 1-866-946-4327 or email us: support@iogear.com. Once again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR
