5 out of 5 eggsworks fine right out of box

Pros: works right out of box
sized right for my application
sturdy metal case

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I was pleased with this since it worked right out of the box and provides the needed extra ports where needed. Another review comments about the "nice" wall mount - I want to clarify this is just a couple of drywall plugs and screws. The "nice" part is that the D-Link case includes keyholes for the screw heads. In my case, I use the stick-on rubber feet and set it on a bookshelf. A feature I like is having "local" port traffic lights, giving some assurance downloads are happening without going to the other room to look at the router.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Switch for Small Spaces

Pros: + Small form factor
+ Gigabit
+ Durable metal construction

Cons: - Obnoxiously large power brick
- Price at time of review(?)

Other Thoughts: This is a great little switch. I purchased it for about half the price at the time of this review (03/24/2013), so I cannot really complain about anything other than the size of the included AC adapter. That thing is ridiculously large for the small 5-port switch they are selling. It is one of the smallest gigabit switches on the market, but I would be willing to bet the power brick is one of the largest for any desktop switch that does not have an internal power adapter.

I have had no problems out of this product. It works as advertised, delivers the speeds advertised (I have tested this device using both synthetic and real-world benchmarks and am satisfied that it is giving me a max of about 105MB/s transfer speed). It is also small enough to fit in a small area next to a battery backup unit under my desk, providing connectivity for my desktop computer and a network printer. The durable metal construction also gives me a better feeling about it resting on carpet than one that is made completely out of flimsy or static-generating plastic.

All in all, this a great little product. I simply do not know if it is worth the current price at almost double what I originally paid for it, and almost double what you can pay for comparable products from competitors. This is a product that belongs squarely in the 30-dollar range. Why Newegg decided to jack the price up by nearly a factor of two is beyond me.

5 out of 5 eggsTrouble-free, well-built switch.

Pros: - Overall, the switch itself is rather small. It's inconspicuous and you can practically hide it anywhere. The Matte Black finish is exceptional, and the LEDs that indicate the speeds your connected devices are running.
- The Gigabit speeds are astoundingly fast, but make sure your router sports GB connectivity.
- Being able to expand an area into four Ethernet ports with only one Ethernet coming in is very handy.
- Offering the option of wall mounting and including the accessories you need is handy. I did end up wall mounting it in an area that gives only .75 of an inch. It sits securely and tight.
- The ability to just basically plug-n-play is great. Considering almost all network-related products take a lot of time to get up and running by tweaking and adjusting settings, it was very convenient to just plug it in, connect an Internet connected Ethernet, plug two Ethernet cables in and out into my computer.
- Using a Realtek Team, I can now run 2GB Ethernet on my computer thanks to this device.
- A simple solution of expandability and increased throughput.
- It even included a Kensington lock.

Cons: - None that I can think of. I purchased this knowing what I was going to do with it and it fills its role perfectly.

Other Thoughts: Overall I am more than pleased with this switch, and the price point is perfect. Spending any more money than this on a switch for basic use, unless of course you need many more ports or other more advanced features, would be silly.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect home small ofc solution

Pros: Solid construction
Simple implementation
Reliable

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: For the past seven years, I've taken to using DLINK switches almost exclusively in our small office. Their products are well-built and quite reliable, and the warranty is bar none. When I needed to replace a small generic switch in a cubicle area with a printer and workstations, this fit the bill and solved the issue the other device was causing.

5 out of 5 eggsGood product

Pros: Have been using this switch for a bit over a month now with absolutely no problems. This will run gigabit links over my CAT5e wiring with several 100 foot runs and one 200 foot run. This thing runs cool to the touch in a cabinet where I have cooked to death two 10+ year old 10/100 switches. I am waiting for another sale to buy a couple more of these.

Cons: Why did I wait so long to upgrade?

Other Thoughts: Full wired home/office system with four computers and three networked HP printers. One Cisco RV180 central router and three work areas with switches.

5 out of 5 eggsGood little switch

Pros: -Small
-Sheet metal feels heavier than most switches which should help when it eventually gets stepped on

Cons: -Does not fight communism

Other Thoughts: Bought this switch because I had to set up a temporary workstation with three PCs performing large file conversions and then transferring the 250 gb finished work to the master filer server. Using my old 10/100 switch on the gigabit network was far too slow.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat little switch

Pros: Very solid metal build for a small switch.
Price was very nice.
Gigabit ethernet in a small formfactor

Cons: None that I can see so far. If something should arise, I will update my ratings

Other Thoughts: This is a very good little switch. I have my remote access point a computer(my jimmy rigged server) and a dell 5310n laser printer.

5 out of 5 eggsFast, well-built gigabit switch.

Pros: I have owned many pieces of D-Link networking hardware, and have been very impressed by all of them. This switch is no exception. The all metal case is well made, and the small footprint makes it almost unnoticeable on my desk. This switch has never crashed unlike the Netgear switch it replaced for only a few more dollars.

Cons: Somehow I always forget to file the mail in rebates...

5 out of 5 eggsSwitch

Pros: -Gigabit Switch
-Works as advertised

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Great buy, replaced a switch borrowed from my uncle. I have 75Mbps internet, and using this switch took us from ~6 Mbps to our 74 Mbps with a great ping.

5 out of 5 eggsSecond switch purchase

Pros: Solid performance for my wired home network. It is not has hot as some other switches I have used.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I knew it was unmanaged when I bought it so can't list that as a con.
I bought on switch then another 4 months later, that pretty much says it all.

Worked right out of the box. No configuration was necessary on my network. Great value for the $$$.
