5 out of 5 eggsD-Link DGS-108 8-Port Gb Switch

Pros: Metal casing instead of plastic.
8 ports instead of 5 for just a few $ more

Cons: None that I can think of.

Other Thoughts: My house is hard wired for faster throughput. I have this switch uplinked to a D-Link DGS 1016D Switch which is my backbone switch. I have a PS3 and a Roku 2 XS attached to it and the only hiccup I have w/ it is my ISP speed package when I stream Netflix (not the Switch's fault). It buffers for like a half a sec every once in a blue moon and then it's fine. Very pleased w/ this product/purchase.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Gigabit

Pros: Plug the Gigabit in, connect the cables and internet moves faster.

Cons: n/a

Other Thoughts: 3-4 minutes after opening the box, the Gigabit switch worked and the network was noticeably faster. Well built construction and low power consumption.

5 out of 5 eggsDon't even notice its there

Pros: Current set up has this plugged into patch panel then to router, all ports used (7, then 1 for uplink) mounted in a closet. Works without any hiccups over last month. Does what a switch is supposed to do, tells me immediately if I'm running gbe speeds or 100mbit speeds so i can monitor when something is moving slowly at a glance. Sitting in a closet without much ventilation other than leaving the door open this is fairly cool running with door closed. Seemless integration into my new home network, its what I expect from a unmanaged device.

Build quality is is very good, metal box frame, matted feel and the power supply isn't as huge as prior experience w/ older similarly sized switches, so it all fits inside the closet w/ the router/modem/nas.

Cons: As with all switches, mounting this thing is the annoying part as you can't really see the mounting holes, all based on measurements and your skill with a drill/screwdriver.. but no fault of its own as its been this for more years than anyone probably can count, unless you have a rack at home! lol (note to newegg, sell 1/2 height racks for the home ;) )
But size of power block could be even smaller or even maybe integrate into the switch itself to have no block at all, but that's probably a fantasy

Other Thoughts: works well, if it works plugged in immediately will probably work for years to come, so happy with purchase and price as this is something that is cool running and brainless to work

3 out of 5 eggsDecent switch until it stops linking

Pros: Gigabit...
Seemed to work pretty well for a while

Cons: The power light still lights up, but nothing will link to it anymore. No link lights, no network connectivity. Contacted D-Link support because of it's "Limited Lifetime" warranty, we'll see where that goes I guess.

1 out of 5 eggsGood, but not compatible

Pros: Well built

Cons: Not compatible with my ISP equipment/environment. Worked with ISP technicians over 2hrs--It was their decision for me to try something else.

Other Thoughts: Returned the item via RMA. Customer Service was very efficient. RMA dept claimed they received an empty box and denied me a refund. They refused to recognize submitted mailing evidence that 2lbs 2.3ozs of content was mailed at my expense; and accepted by RMA with no sign of mail tampering during mailing. Very disappointed at Newegg.

1 out of 5 eggsNice paperweight

Pros: Feels like it has a sturdy construction. Visually well built. I love the LEDs showing what speed of connection you could have. Solid paperweight - it can hold down a few papers.

Cons: First one DOA. Would realize it was on a network but wouldn't connect or talk to the network. Cross-shipped with replacement. The replacement ALSO did not work with the network. I tried many many things to get this switch to connect me to the internet, nothing worked. Don't waste your time or money, just get a REAL switch like the 8 port Netgear Prosafe, which works flawlessly for me.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Gbit Switch

Pros: True Gigabit speed - 125 Megabytes/s
Very cool, seems energy efficient (unlike my Belkin router)
Good price, especially with rebate and promo code
Smaller than I expected, actually
Well made metal case, feels solid

Cons: None really. It makes my spinning drives the bottleneck for large file transfers.

Other Thoughts: This is actually the first switch I have purchased, but have used some 100Mbit ones at LAN parties.
No issues using Cat 5e cables for Gbit connections. Now I just have to wait and see if D-Link honors the rebate.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: Works great although I didn't like having the plugs on the front, but considering its purpose as small business equipment it suites it quite well although it is unmanaged. I sold it to my cousin becasue he needed it more and he saw an increase in speed almost immediately. Also this unit is well cooled with a heatsink on the CPU that can be seen through the vents and is house in a steel case.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Both my Cousin and I have networks using Cat 6 Belkin cable and experience excellent performance throughout the network.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: The switch works great. The transfer rate went from ~85mbps on a Linksys 10/100 to ~250mbps on this switch.

Cons: Not sure if this is a big deal, but this switch has a slightly wider footprint than I expected. Doesn't bother me though.

Other Thoughts: D-Link website says it comes with a 5 year warranty... w00t!
