3 out of 5 eggsTotally mediocre

Pros: Relatively inexpensive. Mostly works.

Cons: Web interface is painfully slow. I have a couple ports that continually have transmit and receive errors no matter what device I have plugged into them, so I know this is an issue with the switch. As others have said, their tech support is a total joke.

Other Thoughts: If you aren't concerned with getting full speeds from your switch, then this will probably be OK for you. I won't be buying another one of these.

Manufacturer Response:

Valued Customer,

We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Please email us at, reference "New egg Product Review" and someone will contact you in an expedited manner.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid

Pros: I got 3 of these in December of 2011. Been running them ever since as our backbone for an office of 60 people. No issues with them. We have had no downtime and compared to our old 3com 24port gig switches they perform better. Speeds are very fast for all of our range of printers, laptops, desktops. Very pleased with this purchase so far.

Cons: Fan noise is loud. Could use better white pages to cover the web inteface.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't buy TrendNet

Pros: none

Cons: This product did not work out of the box. The web interface locks up and the thruoghput per port is less that 1000kbps. The only way I have been able to access the Web interface is with a computer running IE 6. (7,8 and 9 lock up). I have contacted their Tech Support department. Tier 1 Tech Support is a JOKE. They do not even understand simple IP address settings. Teir 2 was more helpful. At least they understood IP settings. They do not however have the authority to replace a defective product. Moving on to Tier 3 tech support.. Guess what they are so busy that they have to call me back in a day or two : (. I have this product on-site at a customers office. I cannot wait two days.

Other Thoughts: Buying this product has cost me more money in free labor to try to keep my customer happy than I paid for the switch. I wish I would never have bought it. I have spent hours on the phone with people who cannot resolve the issues or authorize a replacement.

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggsSave your money

Pros: Price per port is good.

Cons: Doesn't work all the time. Drops packets and has major issues with Auto Negotiation. The interface is buggy and tech support is useless.

Other Thoughts: I purchased of these. Now only have 3 that seem to work the right way after 3 months.

I will never buy trendnet again... Should have ponied up and bought Cisco...

3 out of 5 eggsNoisy

Pros: The switch is working fine, as expected, except for the noise.

Cons: The fan is noisy. Our hub is right next to my desk and the noise from the switch is loud and even makes phone calls difficult to hear. TrendNet's solution is to buy a new fan. Which I might do, because we can't function without a switch.

5 out of 5 eggsSturdy product

Pros: Cheap, recommended by pros, some level of management.

Cons: Nope. so far.

Other Thoughts: What software upgrade??? The only firmware on the website is the same as the one coming installed: from 2009.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat buy

Pros: Pro's, easy to setup, config and upgrade the firmware. Rock solid, mine was up for about 400 days without one xfer error until we lost power for a few hours and our UPS couldn't last that long :p. 48 port gigabit switch at a great price. I was a bit nervous, I think someone on here (although the post isn't here) said that the switch did poorly with large data transfers that has not been my experience. It does a great job and we haven't had one problem in several years. Out of respect for the unit I thought I'd post about it.

Cons: Firmware upgrades default back to a default IP address that's not my network range, no biggie and only a small con. No mac address filtering / hardware filtering although I don't know if new firmware adds that functionality.

Other Thoughts: For the money I don't think I could be happier, it's been a rock solid unit and I was in fact a bit nervous getting it in the door. It's basically the backbone of the organization.
