5 out of 5 eggsFast, Reliable, and Quiet

Pros: We have had this switch for almost a year now with no problems. It is fast, reliable, quiet, and green (low power). The admin interface is actually not terrible. I have seen some really bad ones over the years.

Cons: So far we have had no technical problems.

Other Thoughts: We do use them as managed switches currently but it is good to know that we can if needed. We do use the statics to monitor the network for anything weird. We will be buying another one soon to replace an older 100 Mb switch.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Switch

Pros: Durable!! - I installed 2 of these switches in 2007 and both are still running strong 4 years later. They run flawlessly and have given me no problems. I am upgrading those two and two other switches I have with the TEG-448WS (48-port switches) which I hope run just as strong for just as long. Even though they are 4+ years old, I am moving them to another part of my network to upgrade a couple other unmanaged switches that are only 10/100.

Cons: None that I found

Other Thoughts: I don't really utilize them as "managed" switches, rather I purchased them because I like the GUI that allows me to monitor status and transmission statistics when desired. Helps in troubleshooting issues...which are few and far between. Sure they are a bit more than an unmanaged switch, but the difference is very small when amortized over the lifetime of the units.

1 out of 5 eggsBuggy firmware keeps this switch from being great value

Pros: Affordable managed switch.

Cons: Web interface does not set Link Speed/Duplex settings properly.
Somewhat obnoxious interface.

Other Thoughts: We have been using this switch on our test bench for some time. If left as a dumb switch it works great. However, who buys a managed switch to use it as an unmanaged switch. The web interface does have a serious bug that is more than a little obnoxious for network testing. When trying to manually set the port speed settings for a port, the interface returns an error saying
"Media type is changed.
Current speed setting is not suitable."

2 out of 5 eggsAppleshare Not Supported!

Pros: Good value for managed 24 port switch.

Cons: WARNING-APPLESHARE NOT SUPPORTED! Yes, the word "Mac" inside an Apple silhouette is on the box. Yes, Macintoshes can still communicate with Windows, Linux, and OS X servers. They can even connect to printers that support Apple's "bonjour" protocol. But I have 2 RIP servers that publish as Appletalk, and doing without them is not an option. So if you don't think you would find yourself in this predicament, this is a decent switch for the price. But if you do need Appleshare, look elsewhere!

Other Thoughts: I'm only giving it 2 eggs because I have purchased many switches in the past, and this is the first that I have purchased that left me in a bind. And it has a Mac "logo" on the package!
