1 out of 5 eggsBought 2, both broke.

Pros: Comes with tools, sleek, acceptable material.

Cons: Bought 2 of these devices and both broke within a few weeks of each other. The cable was to stiff and because the circuit board it plugs into is not supported well enough, it caused the connector to separate from the board.

4 out of 5 eggsSmall, lightweight, (mostly) works well

Pros: - Mostly metal construction except for the front and back faceplates.
- Inexpensive, no-nonsense enclosure that works well with the old 160gb hard drive I tried it with, but see Cons.

Cons: - The supplied USB Y cable is of low quality. It caused routine disconnects and data transfer failures, and quit working after two months of use. Because of this drawback, I deducted one egg.

Other Thoughts: I couldn't figure out what was causing my hard drive to fail intermittently with this enclosure, and I tried another enclosure with the same effect. It turns out that I shared the same USB Y cable across both enclosures, and the two enclosures both worked fine with a different USB mini cable that I tried (not a Y cable, but a standard USB mini cable).

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: Small, compact, and easy to install the drives that I need to read. I have a stack of laptop hard drives to go though so I have not bothered using any screws to hold it together, works great for what I need. Have had no problems using the drives in Windows 7, Vista, and XP

Cons: None for me.

Other Thoughts: Great price, compact, easy to use.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks on the Cheap

Pros: It's cheap and has no trouble mounting to either OS X or Windows.

Cons: Had to drill custom holes to keep the drive from moving around.

Other Thoughts: For the price, the custom holes aren't a big deal. As long as the USB/internal board are recognized without trouble, it's a good deal.

3 out of 5 eggsIDE not SATA!

Pros: Nice price, nice enclosure

Cons: There is no indication in the title that says it's IDE - I purchased it thinking it was SATA. My fault partially, but it would have been easier if it had been listed in the title.

3 out of 5 eggsit works but...

Pros: it works, no secondary usb power required

Cons: the drive doesn't fit in the case properly. The jacks are slightly off center and make it difficult to fully put it in the case.

Other Thoughts: i wouldn't buy it again, but it works I guess

4 out of 5 eggsHey, for about 10 bucks it worked!

Pros: I was able to get it to work. It recovered data from a laptop hard drive that was failing.

Cons: I had to try 3 (actually 6 with the second USB power plug) different locations to get it to work. The drive was recognized and installed OK by XP in 2 of 3 locations but showed up in My Computer in only 1 of 3. First location LED just flashed continuously. Second location LED did not come on and drive was not recognized. Three's the charm!

Other Thoughts: You only need the screws for the front enclosure. The back snaps in. Came with the required screw driver. User friendly packaging. Received it in 4 days with standard shipping. Website FAQ's had only 2 entries but 1 was quite useful (drive must be formatted before use with this device).

4 out of 5 eggsNice looking enclosure

Pros: Snug-fit case included. Tiny, with or without case. Recognized by both OS X 10.5.7 and XP SP3, no need to install additional software. Takes standard mini-B USB cable. Only 2 screws needed.

Cons: Screw holes crack easily, though still works fine. Hard to remove the drive from the enclosure once installed. One of the included screwdrivers (I've got 2 enclosures) is too small for the screws. Not possible to have additional power other than from a second USB port.

Other Thoughts: The HD is hold on by the IDE connector on one side, the front panel on the other side. No screws needed except for 2 securing the back panel to the enclosure. I generally prefer LED on opposite end from the USB plug. But in this case, the enclosure + fake-leather case is so tiny and thin that I think I'll be using it with its case all the time, so this is not an issue. Write speed with my 120GB 5400rpm drive is 13.7MiB/s, slightly slower than my other 7200rpm USB drives.
