4 out of 5 eggsCheap and effective.

Pros: I manage the IT for 6 locations and have two of these. One stays in my lab while the other is in my truck. Great for recovering files off someones workstation when it won't boot or is excruciatingly slow. Simple to use and manages to do both laptop and tower sata drives.

Cons: Use with caution. Jumpers can be accidentally moved resulting in lost data. Once set I taped it over after one major oops.

Do not move the unit with drives in and running. I did replace one unit because it would not read a drive in bay two. Probably caused this myself because I would leave a drive in bay two almost all the time during a job. Many times once the workstation was recovered I would carry tray and drive over to transfer rescued files back into the workstation. It appears this damaged the connectors. Now the entire unit is useless for my intentions.

Other Thoughts: Drives will rattle and jiggle in their slots on this bay if bumped or moved. If there was a way to better secure the multitude of different drives out there so some weren't so loose it would be nice.

1 out of 5 eggsBEWARE!

Pros: It seemed to work well in JBOD mode.

Cons: This little piece of junk cloned one of my drives to another on it's own while in JBOD mode! There's normally a process that is fairly complicated to get it to clone, but it happened with zero user input. I just tuned it on this morning and BAM, I lost every ounce of data from my 500GB media drive because of this dock.

Think twice before buying!

Other Thoughts: I have contacted Kingwin about the problem, we'll see what they have to say on the matter...

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic

Pros: Plug and Play, always happy when the instuctions are pictures, there's 6 of them and that's it. Lets lots of air around drive. Ran for nealy 3 days loading drives over USB connection with no problems.

Cons: Wish I bought this first instead of the Thermaltake that burned out somehow after a year or so.

Other Thoughts: It'a ain't a beauty, if that's how you buy your tech.

1 out of 5 eggs3 Drives Failed

Pros: Convenient

Cons: Bought three of these at one time. One was used daily. One was used occasionally. One was used rarely. All three died within a week of each other, appx 14 months after purchase. Obviously built-in obsolescence. Manufacturers response to my inquiries was slow. No effort was made to troubleshoot problems when they did finally respond to my emails.

5 out of 5 eggsSo Handy!!!!

Pros: I am so happy I bought this. I use it all the time and it is so handy and easy. As I mentioned in another review I have a lot of HDD laying around and need to access them. This makes it easy!!! Even my wife could use this...:)

3 out of 5 eggsWorks most of the time

Pros: Works good for the most part, equally well/poor in windows and Linux. Able to use all partitions, portable.
Able to flip switch which allows the computer to recognise both drives as one larger drive.
Quickly swap drives, unmount-able from both windows and Linux without powering down

Cons: Drives unmount by themselves, need to power on and off and unplug/plug in drives for the computer to recognise them again. This happened both in windows and Linux a few weeks after purchasing the item.
Drives flop around a little, they seem loose when plugged in. Not a big deal, but somewhat worrisome.

Other Thoughts: Now that I have a desktop computer it hasn't been used much, when it was used the 2 times since then for data recovery (30 minute durations) it worked well and didn't unmount unexpectedly.

2 out of 5 eggsdodgy mounting

Pros: when it powers up my 1.5 tb WD drive it works as expected...

Cons: ...but it takes several minutes of placing the drive in each slot, turning dock off and on, before it get's power to the drive and it mounts. called Kingwin but no response.

Other Thoughts: wouldnt recommend.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Silent, easy, simple, effective

Cons: None thus far

Other Thoughts: I have 4 external drives, two of which were becoming bothersome. One had fans that were horribly loud, and the other had no off button. I wanted a docking station so I can quickly pop in/out my current drives in the event I get more drives and/or need to replace enclosures. For the price of this dock, it was definitely worth it!
