A new standard in power supplies is here; the Kingwin Lazer Platinum LZP-550 is one of the world’s first 80 Plus Platinum power supplies. It has achieved an efficiency rate of up to 92% under 50% load and is also able to “overclock” to 650W continuously at 80 Plus Gold spec. Kingwin LZP-550 also has a built in exclusive ECO Intelligent Thermal Control System, a zero noise operation for the power supply when first turned on. The fan will not rotate until the temperature reaches a default temperature between 65°C – 70°C. If you want absolute efficiency with supreme performance and quietness, the Kingwin LZP-550 is a terrific option.

  • newegg 80 PLUS Platinum Certified The 80 PLUS Platinum certified power supply provides ultra-high power efficiency of 92% at 50% load, 90% Efficiency at 20% load, 89% Efficiency at 100% load, saving your money on your electrical bill, reducing heat in your computer's system and prolonging its life.
  • newegg Overclockable Power with Single Strong +12V Rail Compliance with ATX 12V v2.2, EPS 12V v2.91, and SSI EPS 12V v2.92 Specification, the Kingwin LZP-550 is capable of delivering 550W of 80 PLUS Platinum certified, continuous output, or up to 650W continuous output at 80 PLUS Gold spec. A single high current +12V rail @ 45.5A design ensures the best compatibility and maximum provision of 12V power to multi-core CPUs and energy-hungry graphics cards.
  • newegg Crystal Cube Modular Plug w/ Power Connector Cable Management System The crystal cube modular connector cable design allows use of only the cables you need and easier cable routing inside the case, resulting in improved airflow and reduced system clutter.
  • newegg Supports High-End Graphic Cards 2x 6 Pin & 2x 6+2 Pin PCI-E connectors (one 6 Pin and one 6+2 Pin are modular) are included to support high-end graphic cards.
  • newegg 140mm Fan with Unique ECO Intelligent Thermal Control System Intelligent Auto Fan Speed Control on the large 140mm fan ensures exceptional cooling performance as well as minimum noise. Moreover, with Kingwin’s special ECO Intelligent Thermal Control System, the fan does not rotate until the temperature reaches a critical point (default temperature 65°C~70°C); the RPM of the fan will self-adjust according to the temperature maintaining a linear relationship. And when the temperature descends to a critical point (default temperature 45°C~50°C), the fan will stop rotating. This can significantly increase the life span of the fan and power efficiency by reducing unnecessary rotation and consumption.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid PSU

Pros: More than enough juice at extremely high efficiency, and super quiet -- I've had this running for a few months now and I don't think the fan has had to spin up once. Modular cables with a universal connector.

Cons: Not all the cables are modular -- not really a big deal though, since I used all the ones that are fixed.

5 out of 5 eggsStill cranking along.

Pros: Quiet, mostly modular. Cables long enough to wind them around prettymuch everywhere in my case. Puts the power through. Almost 2 years running perfect.

Cons: Space on one line for SATA power sometimes a touch short for what I want to do. But then not everyone wants to put their CD/DVD on the same rail as a HDD. Maybe I shouldn't be so stupid as to put my DVD on the top bay.... Probably not a big deal to most. Just a nit pick that doesn't even bother me.

hey, it said "cons" didn't it?

Other Thoughts: Don't have the equipment to really find out how the rails are doing individually. I can say that it's been very stable for me through thick and thin. Can't say off hand if it improved my power bill. Stuffed this into a new box and just wanted to get something that's high quality. Most of my other psu's that I've gotten have lasted about this long and then died (poor magic blue smoke escaped, sometimes with a pop). This one is still happily running.

Things in my box that this PSU has to push along:
i5-2400 prettymuch left at highest multiplier all the time.
Only have 1x 120mm fan hooked onto my CPU cooler.
24 GB DDR3 1600 (2x 8 GB gskill and 2x 4 GB also gskill @ 9-9-9-21 timings, not overclocked)
ASRock P67 EXTREME4 (B3)
GTX 560ti default clock 850 (evga card) Occasionally pushed up over 900 Mhz (hope to upgrade to GTX 670, may update if this happens. Power draw seems to be the same if reviews are to be believed.)
3 HDD (WD black 2 TB, 750 and older 500) and 1 SSD (OCZ vertex 3 120 GB)
Standard DVD/CD burn 24x combo drive.
Logitec G500 mouse (I mention this because the power has to be pulled through the mobo.)
And a keyboard that I forgot the make and model that has red backlight. (Forgive me, writing this while I'm not at home to look)
Antec 300 case w/ 4 120mm fans (came with 3, bought 4th) and the 140mm. Mostly kept at medium speeds since my ears have apparently gotten sensitive about that in my old age.

1 out of 5 eggsShuts Down When Waking Computer From Sleep

Pros: Quiet, efficient, long cables

Cons: Shuts off when trying to wake computer from sleep.

Other Thoughts: I found the following about Kingwin Lazer PSUs at xbitlabs: "Although the standby source is rated for a high current, it is really inferior to most opponents with lower current ratings. This drawback can show up in systems with huge amounts of system memory (it is powered by the standby source in Suspend-to-RAM mode) or with a large number of devices powered by USB in sleep mode . . ."

5 out of 5 eggsEfficient

Pros: Quiet, efficient, powerful.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Used this is a Monual 312B case entertainment computer. It's totally overkill for the system but I wanted it that way so the fan wouldn't be necessary, and the Platinum rating keeps it efficient even at the low end of its capability. Power consumption on the Kill-a-Watt with the hard drive spun down and the i5-2405S in idle is 45W or less, kicks up a few watts more when watching videos. I've yet to hear the PS fan come on even when running Handbrake, but I don't do gaming so can't speak for that.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing, perfect for a Silent PC

Pros: This hard drive delivers where it counts and I highly recommend it for anyone who has a bottom mounted PSU with the air intake coming from outside the case.

As a closed loop the fan has never kicked on in my core i5-750 rig with a gigabyte GTX 460 under any load I can provide.

The modular cable system that enables any cable to be plugged into any slot is a vast improvement over my last modular PSU (OCZ) which required specific cables be plugged in specific places.

The cables were long enough that I could run them behind my motherboard tray in a CM Storm Scout case, my OCZ cables were slightly too short.

Over all with this PSU I am able to use 2 fewer cables than I had to before which is wonderful.

The goal of my PC is to be as silent as possible under low load like browsing the web or watching videos, and then stay fairly quiet under gaming and this power supply is perfect for that.
The loudest thing in my case is now my CPU fan - a Noctua p14, which I can barely

Cons: Cons.. Well I dislike that the PCI-E cables are not modular and I dislike that I can't see that beautiful white fan...

Luckily for me I have to use both PCI-E Cables so I would have had them plugged in anyway.

Also a very very minor con - PSU's maximal efficiency is at 50% load so ideally this would be a 600w PSU given that my gaming load is around 300 watts.

Either way the efficiency is so high throughout the entire load range there isn't anything really to worry about.

Other Thoughts: Wish I could make it turn its fan on!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat PSU

Pros: Awesome PSU, cut my power usage by 20% over my 80+ PSU I had. my i5 ivy bridge system uses a whole 40 watts idle now. Was using 55 watts idle with the old Corsair 80+ PSU I had on previously

Cons: Not 100% modular, but that is fine

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Solid design, no coil whine, quiet fan (in a not so quiet case/environment), switch to keep the fan always on (for those paranoid that it isn't working)

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggspowers gaming rigs

Pros: -Plenty of power in the age of 28nm graphics cards and 22nm processors
-Apparently uber efficient (I have no way of testing this but less money to the power company means more games for me)
-I've yet to hear it

Cons: -not 100% modular

Other Thoughts: build:
Intel Xeon E3-1230 V2
XFX Double D Radeon HD 7970
ECS Elitegroup LGA 1155 Intel H77
Intel 520 Series Cherryville
8GB DDR3 G.SKILL Ripjaws
