Recycle your IDE drives!
- Pros: The aluminum racks fit my Inwin and Raidmax cases perfectly! The aluminum rack and tray work slick for me.
- Cons: The ground screw in the tray raises my Seagate drives on one side. This is not a major issue; just annoying. I can get two screws to hold the hard drive in the tray and the fit is snug. As I do not intend to remove the hard drive or tray a lot I am not too concerned. The key is a good idea but does not stay in the lock. Put one of the two keys in a safe place!
- Other Thoughts: I now have 3 racks/trays and 1 extra tray. (2 different computers) Using all my old IDE hard drives (20 to 60 GB) for backup or testing of Linux distros. Depending on your case, you may need a flexible (round) cable to make the connections with Master and Slave. Also, the rack extends a bit into the case and may conflict with the PSU and/or the video card.
A rack and trays is a great way to try out Linux distros on a motherboard if you have old 10GB+ IDE hard drives.
No one beats Newegg for selection and service!
so far so good
- Pros: Haven't bought a bay in awhile and am impressed by the stability / price of this one. Runs quiet, out of the box no problems and appears to support the various speeds of the drives I put in it. Had no problem fitting in my case.
- Cons: No cons so far.
- Other Thoughts: I've had several different types of drive bays and the fans on all of them have died eventually regardless of how often I cleaned them. We'll see how long this one lasts, but again so far so good.
1 year later
- Pros: Easy to use, still working after 1 year of hard use.
- Cons: All fans and LEDs died at about 8 months, after the fans got so loud they were driving me crazy. As others have noted, be careful when you put the drive in the tray- go front first.
- Other Thoughts: Dead fans aren't an issue for me 'cause I have awesome case cooling that draws air through this unit. I bought this and several trays so I could take entire OSs to school with me. Now I just store ISOs on em. All fans in all trays are toast but otherwise still peachy.
