KINGWIN KF-811-T-BK SATA Mobile Rack Tray

Pros: The tray is made primarily of thick gauge aluminum, good construction, good price, easy to swap drives with the mother rack.

Cons: The tray is a bit long, so be sure you've got clearance.

Other Thoughts: This version of the tray comes with no fans, so you end up using only the single 40mm fan in the mother rack. I've tried a number of different Western Digital HD's (80GB to 500GB) in this tray and none of them come out very hot when I pull the tray out (drives in my case are much hotter)! I believe this is because the tray conducts heat through the mounting screws and lower metal plate out to the aluminum frame to achieve conductive cooling. So this tray seems very adequate from a cooling viewpoint. I also have the version of this tray that comes with one fan - it makes a noticeable higher-pitch whine so I prefer this version.

Pros: Really like the product design in general, and when they work they are wonderful.

Cons: I purchased 2 racks. 1 failed after about 1 month of use. Tried to contact company, got no response.

Other Thoughts: Since they were cheap and I have several draws I actually ordered another rack and am hoping for the best -- but I'm left wondering.

Cons: cheap...HDD light does not work.

Other Thoughts: cheap, you get what you pay for. Don't buy it.

Rebates stink, don't buy anything on newegg with rebates, you will be sorry.
Best Buy no longer uses rebates, geee i wonder why?

Pros: I have all three Kinwin 81X types (813, 812 and 811) I also have V@nt*c and iSt@r competing products.

The Kingwin 811 shares good features with the other Kingwin 81X series racks. Anti-vibration mounting for the drive (rubber mounted plate). Does not use the drive SATA & power connectors for the sliding connection (wear & tear occurs on tray connector which is cheap to replace rather than HDD connectors which would require replacement of the drive). Cheaper than competing products and you can buy additional cartridges by themselves. SATA 2 speed.

Cons: I don't think that the single rear 40mm fan is good enough for cooling. Half its area is blocked by the structure. You may be better going with the 812 (one additional front fan) or the 813 (two additional front fans) since the price difference is neglible.

This rack provides interface connectors so it is approx 2 inches longer that competing products that use the HDD connector to make the connection. I had to mount it in the top 2 bays of my case where it can overhang the motherboard. Construction is a bit flimsier than competitors. Especially the cartridge lid locking feature which some people report having broken. The locking handle does not engage as readily as the other two removable racks I own. Therefore requires more care when inserting drive.

Other Thoughts: This is the cartridge only. You need to by at least one 81X rack to use this with.
