5 out of 5 eggsWonderful things.

Pros: Extremely high quality.
Extremely effective.
Excellent airflow.
Stylish.

Cons: Price.

Other Thoughts: Extremely effective drive cooler that takes advantage of a properly balanced air flow through the case, front to back. Visually, it adds a wonderful look to the case.

5 out of 5 eggsIt works!

Pros: Very impressed so far. I installed 4 of these in 6-disc UnRAID server in a Zalman MS1000-HS2 with 5-1/4 drive gap between each. With a single 140mm Noctua fan venting at the top back the drives are all reading 8 - 10 Celsius cooler. With the active fan cooling in the Zalman swappable HDD bays they averaged 38C... now with NO fan they are 28-30C.

Although I'd read the circuit-board side of the HDD is the hot part, I spread the silicone over the metal label side and squished it down nice to spread it around. They loaded easily and slid right into the case with all screws aligning perfectly.

The remaining two drives are both SSD otherwise I would have ordered 6 of these.

The two final

Cons: Some instructions would have been nice, but it was fairly self-explanatory.

Other Thoughts: I'm aiming to get my UnRAID box as quiet as possible. These really really helped to stifle HD noise and keep the drives cool with extra fans.

A+++ WOULD BUY FROM AGAIN.

3 out of 5 eggsLooks Cool

Pros: It looks cool and is well built. Comes with thermal paste.

Cons: Ordered 2 of these, and the drives I used with them really did not sit flush against the heatsink. These really need some time of spring loaded screws in order to tighten them down.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great!

Pros: This product works great. My SATA Seagate HDD 7200RPM 120 GB Model: ST3120026AS fit right into it. My HDD would normally heat up to 52 degrees celcius on idle, but now with this heatsink installed it is 39degrees celcius and I'm playing music, runescape, and running a antivirus scan at the same time. I used up all the silicon and placed a bunch on the top of the hdd, after removing the label, and on the sides of the hdd. When I slid the cooler the excess silicon came to the edge and I cleaned it off. There are no instructions but it's pretty straight forward and easy to install. I think you will only have problems if your HDD is not the 3 1/2 inch size and can't fit into the HDD cooler. Also this HDD cooler takes up a 5 1/2 inch bay, like a CD-ROM drive.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I have only three fans in my computer, including the powersupply fan, and two of the fans have voltage regulators on them to control their RPM. I have their dials set to the lowest. I really did not want to add another fan to the internal to cool the HDD, so this product was the right solution for me. My computer is quiet now and I can finally hear music in Windows media player at the lowest volume setting.

1 out of 5 eggsUtterly worthless

Pros: None at all.

Cons: There's just no way that any meaningful quantity of heat is going to be conducted from the drive into this assembly.

It is designed such that the drive must mount with the label-side facing the flat machined surface of the heatsink. Although a prodigious amount of thermal grease is included, the cover of the hard drive is itself not thermally coupled in a meaningful way to the chassis.

The mounting screws (to mount the drive into the heatsink) install only from the sides, and sadly there is a considerable gap between the inner side mounting surfaces and the outer sides of my drive (a Hitachi Deskstar.)

If it were possible to mount the drive with the motor-and-circuit side facing the flat surface of the assembly, and screw it in from the bottom, then it would have been a great product. Without that, it was just $18 down the drain.

Other Thoughts: Honestly, even if you're rendering video to a 10,000 RPM drive, you don't need a fancy cooler. Just mount the drive in a location where it's not covered top and bottom and receives good airflow, and you're golden.

5 out of 5 eggsHow to Install a fanless Cooler

Pros: I know that after all of the positive posts that I have read about fanless coolers lately that I am going to like it. So I gave it 5 eggs Just never installed one of these before. Yes I have built all kinds of computers from new builds to refurbishing them. I just ordered a fanless hdd cooler it is called Basic Cooler Win-7509 for $17.99. My question is" which way does the hdd install in it, label side facing down inside of cooler, or greenboard facing down inside of cooler. and where do you apply the silicone heat sink paste.

Cons: No cons, just knowledge needed about this item.

Other Thoughts: First time I ever installed a fanless cooler to see if it works or not. Thank's guys for the info. in advance.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Passive Cooler

Pros: Makes temperatures acceptable even without an airflow

Cons: Takes up more space than just the drive?

Other Thoughts: For cosmetic reasons, I have a computer case that pretty much provides zero airflow to the hard drive. This cooler reduced the HDD temps from 56C to an acceptable 46C for the situation. I'd imagine it's even better in a system capable of pushing air towards the drive.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate: Additional Use

Pros: Still works fine...now with an additional application

Cons: Could be cheaper

Other Thoughts: I got an Antec 900 case that no longer needed hard drive heatsinks. However, I found another use for these.

I had a couple of VanTec NexStar Hard Drive Docks into which I had two SATA drives that plug in vertically. It leaves about 60% percent of the drive open to the air, but hard drives don't shed heat very well--the drives ran about 45-50 degrees.

I cut about two inches off these heatsinks with a metal-cutting blade in a miter saw and attached them to the hard drives in the VanTec docks. They look Darth Vader and run 15 degrees cooler.
