5 out of 5 eggs8 Years Later

Pros: Still working after 8 years with the PC rarely ever turned off. What more can be said? I like the screw-on modular connections better than modern plastic snap-in types. They don't make em like they used to. Played a GTS 8800 to death in this DDR2 equipped AMD Phenom II Quad, replaced it with a GTX560 and still going strong. The PS has outlasted every other component in this build from 2006.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Surprised this company doesn't still make power supplies. I'd buy one again. New build... guess now it gets compared to Seasonic's 850watt Haswell ready PS. If that one lasts as long as the Hiper, I'll be thrilled.

5 out of 5 eggsFinally gave up the ghost

Pros: Owned since 2005. Finally crapped out on me July 26, 2012, about 2 am. Seven years, great build quality. Can't complain. I will miss this beautifully designed, well-built modular PSU. I really miss bayonet rings for modular PSUs. What a pity.

Cons: Only lasted 7 years.

Other Thoughts: If my new OCZ lasts seven years, I will have made it from 28 to 42 years of age on two PSUs. I've owned cars that have lasted less long than that.

1 out of 5 eggsFails after a year, poor Hiper customer service

Pros: Modular connectors are nice to have. It worked for a bit more than a year.

Cons: I bought two of these for two new computers in the summer of 2006. A month ago the first one failed. Then last week the second one failed. Looking on the internet I now see this is common with these units. I've since emailed and called the US branch but they're not responding.

3 out of 5 eggsneeded replacing once, otherwise OK

Pros: comes with handy cable wraps which help minimize the clutter of wire, etc. inside the PC case

Cons: despite having a couple fans onboard, this PS seemed to get cooked on a particularly hot day in my SoCal second-story apt (no A/C). Newegg was nice enough to promptly replace it

2 out of 5 eggsLasted only a year

Pros: Looks great, modular cables seamed strong and had a nice connector.

Cons: After 1 year and 1 week it died. I was running it 24/7 with no problems whatsoever. Turned if off one night, tried to turn it on the next day and nothing.

Other Thoughts: Read the other reviews here. I'm not the first person to have this PSU fail after only a year. And I'm still waiting on getting info to start the RMA process with them. I'm going to purchase something different while I wait.

5 out of 5 eggsNothing But Quality

Pros: This is a great power supply. The mirrored finish and chrome look amazing in my NZXT Apollo Case. All the voltages check out, and on the high end too. This thing is a 580 CONSTANT with a 620/630 PEAK. I have a ~100 Watt CPU with 4 sticks of ram, 3 hard drives, an ATI X1950PRO (soon to be a NVIDIA 8800GTS...saving my pennies), a DVD burner, 7 fans, etc. and this beast is still hungry.

Cons: nada.....

Other Thoughts: The modularity is amazing; i have only the cables i need, which is nice for airflow. The shielded cables also look great. The attachment system to the psu is sturdy as well; they plug in and screw on; so all connections are secure. Also, the fans on this thing help keep my system cool.

5 out of 5 eggsNot too shabby

Pros: Great power. I've got a fairly power hungry system (4GB ram, OCed processor, 8800 GTS, 2xHDs raided) and it keeps it strong. No problems.

Its my first modular power supply, and I'll never buy a regular one again. Cables are sleeved perfectly for any combination of cables you want. Fans provide good airflow.

Cons: Doesn't have actually SATA power cables, just adapters. Don't get me wrong, they blend in and work fine. Just wish they would've included the raw plug. But they work fine, so its purely aesthetic.

Other Thoughts: It only has a 12v 4 pin CPU connector, not the 8 pin EPS12V. But it doesn't need one, as it provides enough power on the 12v rail(s). I have a 3.0ghz Core 2 Duo processor overclocked @ 3.36ghz with slightly upped voltage and it runs it rock solid no problem.

5 out of 5 eggsGood at install

Pros: Great looking.
Quiet.
Easy to set up.
Modular cables rock.
Good airflow.
The box it comes in is ridiculously useful.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: The box it comes in is like a mini toolbox for computers. It has a little tray with space for many small screw and a couple screw drivers and space underneath for maybe a few parts.

3 out of 5 eggsNot worth it

Pros: Looks nice and matches color of my system. Modular cables.

Cons: Had to remove one of HD cages at the bottom of my case (where my PSU is located), because power supply was taking too much space due to its modular connectors.

Power supply died after a little over one year. The kind of reliability that takes you by surprise if you pay over a hundred bucks for a PSU.

Other Thoughts: Too bad warranty does not matter when you need your system up and running today.
