5 out of 5 eggsRiData DVD's and Seagate 3TB HD

Pros: Before I begin my review on this product, let me set the record straight on something. NewEgg DOES NOT PAY their Eggxpert Reviewers ANY MONEY for a review (GOOD OR BAD - ON ANY PRODUCT)!!! When they 1st asked me to become a reviewer, they told me that I could post ANY TYPE of review that I wanted to, either GOOD OR BAD! The only thing that they asked me to do was to be honest in my review, which I try to be. Now that this is finished, let's start.

On June 10, at roughly 12 noon, I purchased 3 items from NewEgg. They were (2) 100 Packs of RiDATA 4.7GB DVD-R's and (1) Seagate Constellation CS ST3000NC002 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal HD.

Now I'll be honest in that normally I wouldn't buy a 3TB HD from anyone, not even Seagate. This is because I've heard and read too many bad reviews about 3TB HD's quitting before their time or being "DOA". No one, not even myself, likes to deal with a HD that quits before it's "MTBF" comes due. "MTBF" stands for "Mean Time Before Failure" and is generally a Time (in hours) that a piece of equipment is supposed to run for BEFORE it fails.

I was originally just going to replace my defective 2TB Seagate with another one. But when I saw that this 7200 RPM 3TB HD was on sale for roughly the SAME price as a NEW 2TB HD I was considering purchasing and after reading the reviews on this HD, I decided to "Bite the Bullet" and buy one.

Now I had to wait until the 12th for GoHardDrive to charge my account to pay for the HD which I didn't expect. I expected the S-U-P-E-R-F-A-S-T service I have come to expect and love from NewEgg in which my orders are processed the SAME DAY or the next. Normally I would deduct an EGG for that reason BUT that was my fault for not noticing that the HD was being sold by a 3rd party seller so no eggs on that.

I got the (2) 100 packs of DVD's on the 12th W-I-T-H-O-U-T ANY DAMAGE which is nice. Now I've used these same DVD's before and I have to tell you I rate them as an EXCELLANT product. As a matter of fact I was waiting for them to go on sale again JUST so I could order more. Now all I had to wait on was the 3TB HD from GoHardDrive. This is where I hummmm the tune from Jeopardy...

Today (the 13th) I got my 3TB HD via USPS. Now for USPS, that's F-A-S-T, I have to admit. The package came in a brown paper cardboard box just barely bigger than the HD itself. The HD was securely double wrapped in HEAVY DUTY bubblewrap and fit into the cardboard box so tightly that I had to fight to get it out. NOW T-H-I-S IS HOW TO SHIP A HARD DRIVE. NewEgg, you ought to take a lesson from GoHardDrive on HOW to do this. I'm sure that all of your customers would appreciate that as well.

Regretfully, I won't be able to test the HD until tomorrow morning as I have to go to work shortly, so it'll have to wait until tomorrow to see IF there are any problems with the HD itself. But in ALL HONESTY, considering on how WELL PACKAGED the HD itself was, I don't expect that there will be

Cons: But there is ONE M-A-J-O-R PROBLEM GoHardDrive...

When I opened the box for the 1st time, it had a distinct odor coming from it.

It took me a while to determine WHAT it was, and I think it is the odor of Bananas?!? Bananas??? Yes, Bananas... I'm still trying to figure out where or what the odor came from. Was someone in your shipping department sipping on Banana Daiquiris and maybe spilled some into the box before sending this package out, if so you must have the happiest shipping department in California. Or was someone just eating Captain Crunch Cereal with bananas on top. I still can't figure that one out... Bananas???

Well the HD is NOW installed, but when I powered the system back up, I got an ERROR MESSAGE on my MAIN Monitor telling me NO HDMI INPUT or VGA INPUT was detected. I then broke open the PC again and Re-Seated the Video Card twice with the same result.. Now was the time for me to put on my THINKING CAP. Was the NEW HD drawing too much power and causing the Video Card to fail? I doubted that (even with 5 HD's and a DVD Writer as well). Was my monitor finally giving up the Ghost? Two Monitors AT the SAME TIME??? I doubted that as well. The only other consideration left was to Re-Seat the VGA Card again AND this time do a HARD-Reset on the BIOS as well and see if that works. It did, but as to what happened, I don't know; but it's fixed now...

Other Thoughts: The NEW HD seems to be working fine (for now anyway). I'll post another review later on OR when/if it dies. And the DVD's seem to be fine as well (as I expected). Both NewEgg and GoHardDrive get AND DESERVE 5 Eggs on this purchase. Both shipments were delivered FAST and well packaged, even with GoHardDrive using USPS which is normally VERY SLOW. Good job NewEgg, again. And welcome to my preferred list of outlets GoHardDrive. You'll probably be getting orders from me in the future as well. Good job to you as well...

Would I purchase these items again for myself? At THESE prices and WITH the FAST delivery and good product reviews? Heck YES I would, without hesitation... If these DVD's come on sale again, you can bet your life I'll be buying more of them...

Would I recommend these purchases to others? YES, I would, without hesitation...

Now... If I can just figure out WHERE and HOW the Banana Smell came from???

5 out of 5 eggsRitek 16X DVD-R 100 Pack (ONE MONTH LATER)

Pros: This is a FOLLOW-UP to my LAST REVIEW of these DVD's. It's been about 1 month now since I got them and so far I have burned through about 90 DVD's from the 1st of 3 packs. I have to say that I am VERY IMPRESSED with these DVD's. I have not had ONE SINGLE COASTER!!! Not EVEN ONE!!! That's impressive!!! I'm sure that most people (who are like me) that burn through a LARGE NUMBER of DVD's will state, there are some BRANDS that we tend to stay away from and I mean LIKE A PLAGUE!!! I'll be nice and won't name any names. But you know WHO you are...

That is not the case with Ritek, at least NOT in my book! They have performed VERY WELL! Actually, much better then I expected! I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. I expected maybe one or two coasters at least. But NONE... That was a shock!!! You can bet that I'll be buying more of these when I see them on sale again. I just wish I had bought more than the 300 I did... Oh well, live and learn...

Cons: NOT ONE SINGLE GRIPE except that I didn't buy more of these!!!

Other Thoughts: What can I say, these things are GREAT!!! Good job Ritek!!! Keep up the good work!!!

5 out of 5 eggsRitek 16X DVD-R 100 Pack DVD

Pros: Before I begin my review on this product, let me set the record straight on something. NewEgg DOES NOT PAY their Eggxpert Reviewers ANY MONEY for a review (GOOD OR BAD - ON ANY PRODUCT)!!! When they 1st asked me to become a reviewer, they told me that I could post ANY TYPE of review that I wanted to, either GOOD OR BAD! The only thing that they asked me to do was to be honest in my review, which I try to be. Now that this is finished, let's start...

I ordered 3-100 Packs on 11/24/2014 around 11:00PM and they arrived 11/26/2014 around noon. In my book, that's LESS THAN 1 day shipping and it didn't cost me a dime for shipping. You can't beat that!!! Good job NewEgg!!!

All 3 packs were individually wrapped in Heavy Duty Bubble Wrap and then packed with more Bubble Wrap to protect everything. Nothing was broken AND/OR damaged in any way. NewEgg, in the past anyway, had a BIG PROBLEM shipping DVD's and CD's. Sometimes they would arrive with the spindles broken and/or some (if not all) of the CD's and DVD's scratched and/or broken. I know for a fact, as this happened to me on more than one occasion.

The main reason I did nothing in the past is because I burn through a LOT of DVD's and CD's every month. Around 100 or so DVD's every month and about 50-80 CD's. I use them for BACKUPS, MOVIES, MUSIC, and such and try to keep at least 100 DVD's (and about 50 CD's) in reserve till I see a sale on (DVD's or CD's) that I want to partake in. Then I place my order for them to keep my stocks up. The problem is that doing this, means that it's at least a month (if not longer) before I open the new DVD's (or CD's) I ordered so it takes me at least that long till I find out IF any or ALL of them are alright or not. And by then, the NewEgg Product Return Period is usually over with. I have to say that I've gotten burned on more than one occasion because of this.

I know, you're probably thinking to yourselves, "Why does this idiot burn through SO MANY DVD's a month"? Well the number one reason is that I cannot begin to warn you about the number of times I was burned by a Hard Drive that crashed when I didn't have ANY UP TO DATE Backups. After that happened to me, I vowed that it would never happen to me again.

REMEMBER TO ---> BACKUP, BACKUP, AND BACKUP AGAIN!!!

The second reason is because I have OVER 10,000 Movies and OVER 30,000 Songs and so many pictures that I can't even begin to count them. I have so many in files, that my 12TB Server (Server #1) is getting full and I'm in the process of building a another new 48TB Server to go along with the 1st one. Hopefully by then, I'll be able to relax a little. I hope anyway.

Cons: It'll be at least 1 month before I can honestly comment on the quality of these DVD's so I'm not even going to try. As all 3 cases arrived intact and there appears to be no damage on any of them, I can't make any comment either about damaged products. Sorry guys, this is HOW it works and HOW I work as well.

I'll post another Review in about a month (or so) to comment on how these DVD's performed. You'll just have to be patient and wait.

Other Thoughts: This will be the 1st time I have used the Ritek Brand of DVD's. I had seen them on sale many times before, but I never had an opportunity to buy them. I red both good AND bad things about them in past reviews, but wanted to see for myself just how they stacked up to the OTHER BRANDS. Now I'll have to wait about a month to see just how well (or not) they perform in the REAL WORLD...

REMEMBER TO ---> BACKUP, BACKUP, AND BACKUP AGAIN!!!

4 out of 5 eggsSeems good so far, but only work as 8x

Pros: Good looking design. The shipping was fast as always.

Cons: The DVD box/container was broken on arrival. The DVDs are falsely advertised as16x RW speed. These discs are detected with 8x write speed on latest Apple Superdrive as well as via Nero 11 on a Thinkpad with Windows 7.

5 out of 5 eggsMy new BEST DVD discs!

Pros: All my other brands have eventually failed me and I wind up with either coasters or discs that will not be accepted by the recorders. Have had ZERO problems with these discs and have literally used hundreds of them. They finally restored confidence in knowing that they will be recorded on with NO flaws.

Great discs!!!

Cons: None, zero, zilch!

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic DVD-r's & good price

Pros: I purchased one of the Ritek 16X DVD-R 100 Packs Disc, Magic Silver logo Model DRD-4716-RDMCB100 to try them out. I surely didn't go wrong! I ended up purchasing 5 more packs of 100. Knock on wood, no "coasters". I got an e-mail that they were on sale and that was even a bigger plus! In addition to "free shipping"!! Can't go wrong there!

Cons: None

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: You can pay more for other brands if you like wasting your money.
