Grate Concept - Bad Execution
- Pros: The main concept of the unit is good. Storing discs is easy and the database is useful in tracking media in.
- Cons: The get the media out you have to rip the unit apart and force by hand. The mechanical design of the unit is weak and badly executed. I have a mechanical engineering degree and to the rubber band drive system is of poor design and does not have the strength needed to eject the discs. I have three units and all failed to eject any of the discs. The customer support at Imation is non-existent as attempts to contact them have fell on deaf ears.
- Other Thoughts: If you just want a unit to store media forever and have it tracked in a database, this will work. If you actually want to eventually eject the media, expect to bring your screw driver to disassemble it.
Dicey
- Pros: Great idea. In theory. Worked flawless for over a year.
- Cons: Then after about a year I have to pick up the unit I'm ejecting a CD from and shake it, so it comes out when I choose Eject. A little on the expensive side as well.
its ok
- Pros: Very silent, doesn't need an external power source, and the software bundled with it isn't so bad. It's stackable up to 5 units to a tower (a single USB cord for 5 units) thats 500 discs total per tower.
- Cons: I've cracked this thing open a few times just because it would jam eventually. It's not hard to take apart, but for $100? The pieces itself aren't worth more than $50 all together. The rubber bands that turn the plastic gears wear out eventually and lose their tightness. The warranty for this product is 1 year.... and for a reason. Because right after 1 year comes around, the cheap materials end up wearing out. And you are out of a warranty.
- Other Thoughts: My opinion, its good for a short thrill. But for a long term usage, don't buy it. It's a pain. I wouldn't recommend buying it.
