OverviewCustomer ReviewSpecificationsProduct Tour
Engineered to support intense power needs, the Corsair HX520w is ideal for high performance and gaming systems. Delivering 520 Watts of continuous power, the power supply is perfect for dual-GPU setups, supporting the latest ATX12V v2.2 and EPS12V 2.91 standards, and backward compatible with ATX12V 2.01 systems. The circuitry design offers up to 80% efficiency under wide load range. Active Power Factor Correction increases efficiency and delivers reliable power. The ultra-quiet 120 mm fan varies the RPM with the temperature, offering greater airflow as needed.

Enhanced modular flexible cables offer easier cable routing and clean up clutter. This increases airflow and aids in heat dissipation. Over Current/Voltage/Power Protection, Under Voltage Protection, and Short Circuit Protection shield your critical system components from errant power fluctuations. The capacitors used in the HX520w are of 105oC industrial grade and offer unparalleled performance with high reliability.

The universal AC input 90 ~ 264 V automatically scans and adjusts the HX520w to operate at the available input voltage. Gold-plated connectors offer oxide-free and low-resistance connectivity to your system components. Triple 12 V rails provide independent and reliable power to your CPU, your video card and to the other components of your system.

Informative Review 520HX

Tech Level Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: If you laid out the amount of watts this thing can really put out, you could cover an area the size of Belgium.
Modular cables made the right way, Watts truely rated at RMS. Quiet even under "full" load. Packaging could be saved and used as a stocking stuffer later in the year.
Cons: Could not be used to jump start an 87 civic and i had to buy a usb cup warmer as i could no longer warm my coffee on the back of my case.
Other Thoughts: I take this seriously. Very seriously. The room is white, high-ceilinged, interrupted by curves of steel equipment here and there. I am wearing safety goggles and my boots are lined with plastic bags. There is a multimeter to my left, a glass of water to my right, and beneath my chair a syringe filled with hydrocortisone. In front of me sits a test bed of parts all powered by the corsair 520hx. The powersupply is quiet, sturdy, a clean low gloss black paint covers it that somehow communicates both depth and solidity. I slowly reach towards the ignition button, hesitating every so slightly before engaging. One FX-60 fitted on an A8N32 being cooled by a Monsoon II TEC start it's whirring beeping routine. The 21" Monitor clicks on as the 8800gts's fan finesses air over it's hidden heatsink. Four sata drives react with vigor as they are ordered to life. The dangerous part is over. I checked the watts being fed, 517, the PSU scoffed in disgust as it's internal temp was only 103f.

Home run out of the gate

Pros: Modular cables that are in a "ribbon" style instead of needing braided wraps. Feel like substantial wire, but flexible enough to maneuver easily and much easier to hide than wrapped cables. It was installed with cables hidden and routed in 10 minutes. The first psu I have ever installed that had voltage rails that read 11.99 (12V), 5.00 (5.0V) and 3.33 (3.3V) and did not move more than +/-.02 loaded with prime95 and anything else I threw at it. Loaded w/ athlon64/ Geforce 6800gt/ 4 hard disk array system. Rails are specified in corsair documentation, so you can choose which components go on which 12v rail. Nice unit. Nice price point for this heavy of a unit (passes weight test).
Cons: The cables are not as aesthetically fancy looking as their wrapped counterparts, they are flat black and "all business," but if you don't see much of them who cares? And the main cables are very cleanly and professionally wrapped. I guess I have to whine about having to route the EPS12V cable because I don't use it, but at least I have one.
Other Thoughts: You need to find a safe place to store the bag (yes they supply a ballistic nylon bag) with tons of extra cables (long, short, 2-molex, 3-molex...) so when you change components you can re-customize the cabling... Sxxxks.

Stop looking; this is what you need

Pros: I've had many power supplies over the years but this company continues to produce outstanding power supplies. I would just stop looking if I was you; just buy a Corsair psu.
Cons: None. Period.
Other Thoughts: I love the case sticker that comes with this. Looks great on my HTPC case. If you have a small case then I strongly recommend a modular power supply like this one here. You might find another one that is cheaper but just remember; you get what you pay for.

Pros: well, i've had this PSU for over 2 years. its gone through hell and back. i rarely ever turn my PC off for more than an hour or 2 and its still running great. i've shorted it out many times (don't ask.) and ran alot of heavily Overclocked hardware on it.
at one point i had my pc (e8400@4ghz, numerous fans, a couple HDDs) with a 9800GX2, which i also heavily overclocked and voltmodded and this powersupply didn't wince a bit. by far the most solid component i have ever had.
Cons: only con is that people underestimate this unit.

Pros: Great PSU, after my previous PSU unceremoniously fried on me, I ordered this unit from Newegg, might I add great service on their part, PSU arrived ahead of schedule (bravo!!). Swapped out unit in no time at all as it is a very straight forward setup. Excellent device for the price bracket.
Cons: None so far.
