An important tip from one of our users: don't just check total power output, find out what you need in the way of current on each power rail. If you need 20 A on your +12V rails and the supply only has 15A, it doesn't matter how many watts the supply puts out: don't buy it. Make certain that you have ENOUGH rails, too: sometimes, you need more than just two +12V rails for your setup.

Replacing an existing power supply is easier: just get a replacement that meets or exceeds the specifications of the old one. (You can usually find those printed on the side of the supply.)

That said, here's a power supply that is compatible with most ATX format motherboards, puts out 620 watts of power (see specifications for exact distribution). Could this be your next power supply?

5 out of 5 eggsIt was a beast, then it died violently

Pros: - Removable cabling means less unnecessary clutter in your case.
- It died violently, but it protected the rest of my computer.

Cons: - After transporting my computer home from across town the power supply died violently. The 620HX made two LOUD electrical popping noises, along with some smoke and the smell of death. It even left a burned outline of one of its sides in the case. I was very worried that everything was going to be fried.

Other Thoughts: My best guess is that there might have been a screw rolling around loose inside the case. It might have hopped into the power supply during transport and shorted something out.

5 out of 5 eggsLove Corsair

Pros: I'm on the high edge of this PSU's capacity and have been running it like that for over a year. It has never faltered. Nice and quiet. The guys over at [H]ardOCP recommended it, so I bought it and I do not regret it.

Cons: Not "full modular"

2 out of 5 eggsLemon?

Pros: Well it's a working PSU that does it's job and works very well. It pushes good wattage, and can make a computer go.

Cons: Well, Unlike corsair, the thing must be a lemon. It's 4 pin CPU power cable is actually about 1 inch long? it can't reach anything. i thought i'd send it in for warranty until i found out that the warranty label is missing from this power supply or corsair doesn't send theirs with the little stickers(is this right?) so i'll try an RMA but i doubt i'll get it.

Other Thoughts: really 1 inch cord? also i heard something about it having a fan wire. but the fan used inside is 2 pin so it can't read rpm, unless it's a speed control wire but even then this PSU is missing that wire too. i'm confused. prototype or lemon?

5 out of 5 eggs4+ yrs of service

Pros: Stable and durable. It gave out after 4 years. Still in warranty so I contacted Corsair and they sent me a brand new one w/ free shipping! :O

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Purchased Corsair RAMs and PSUs in the past 7 years for 5 builds (with a few SSDs). Corsair rocks :]

5 out of 5 eggsA tried and true PSU.

Pros: Quiet, even after over two years. No power surge I've had, be it a lightning storm or black out, has harmed it. No fluctuations or erratic behavior.

Modular clips, wiring sheaths and configuration are hearty and work well.

Corsair has made a truly great product here and should be proud of it.

Cons: None whatsoever. In fact, if any one says a slanderous word towards this PSU I'd poke them in the eye.

Other Thoughts: The unit has powered a Radeon 5870 Cypress XT, AMD 955 Black Edition (overclocked), 4 HDDs, a DVDRW drive, multiple USB devices, 5 fans without choking for 2 1/2 years. It's solid.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid modular power supply

Pros: This is my second Corsair power supply and I'm hooked. This easily powered my low-end HTPC and did it very quietly. Given the additional power connectors, this power supply should be useful for years to come.

Cons: The main power cables are very stiff (like most power supplies, honestly), which made cable routing in the SilverStone GD-05B case a bit problematic.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat PSU

Pros: Very well built and comes with plenty of cables.

Cons: The 4-pin connector for the CPU is a bit short, Had to run it over the motherboard instead of behind or off to the side.

1 out of 5 eggsLong RMA Proccess

Pros: Modular cables, Quiet

Cons: After 1 week my computer started randomly rebooting. Tracked it down to the PSU. Put in my old Enermax 480 and it ran perfectly. Now parts can be bad. it happens. Thats not what earned it one star. How you take care of bad parts is a direct reflection of your quaulity.

RMA... this is the problem. it took them 3 days to give me a RMA. I filled out the online paperwork and finnaly had to call them to get it. They did not send an email that they had gotten it till 2 days after they recieved it. The email says it is not sent for evaluation and to allow 5 more days then normal because they are backed up.

if i did not have my old power supply I would have had to go buy one or be down for probably 3 weeks to get a replacment from corsair that is one day shipping away from me.

Unacceptable, I will never buy another product from a company with such slow service.
