The 400CX PSU from Corsair delivers premium features on a standard budget. This 400W PSU supports the latest ATX12V v2.2 standards. The unit is 80 Plus certified and has a 99% Active Power Factor Correction to ensure maximum efficiency.
The cables are extra long to work in the largest tower. They are fully sleeved for easy routing and bundling. There is a PCIe power connector so you can use one of today’s high powered video cards. There are also 6xSATA and 6xMolex connectors so you can connect multiple drives and peripherals.
Keeping it all cool is a variable speed 120mm fan. Air is vented through the hexagon mesh back panel. The universal input accepts voltages from 90-264 so you no longer have to worry if the switch was in the right position.

Corsair 400W PSU
- Pros: Unlike many other power supplies, this has a single 30 amp 12v Rail which eliminates any load balancing over different rails and will power a lot of components other PSUs (even with higher wattage ratings, Thermaltake 430W is a perfect example) will not. The efficiency, quality and price of Corsair PSUs is hard to beat. The heat and noise generated from this PSU is minimal due to high efficiency.
- Cons: None.
- Other Thoughts: This power supply carries a 3 year warranty. Just as a comparison, the other 7 PSUs Corsair carries come with a 5 year warranty. Also, after Corsair has revamped their website, the noise and efficiency charts that they had listed for power supplies were removed. I couldn't check the noise charts, but figured that it couldn't be any louder than a Corsair 450W that I purchased, and I was right. It's the quietest actively cooled part in the whole computer.
Corsair is the Way to GO
- Pros: Go to newegg, click powersupplies, click Corsair, now you have a flawless power supply no matter what you click on.
- Cons: Didn't come with the nice bag like all the others. ;)
- Other Thoughts: I wish buying memory and motherboards was this easy.

Seriously?
- Pros: This power supply performs very well. I have it paired with a i5, 4GB DDR3, 150GB Raptor, 1TB storage, HD5750, and it performs flawlessly. 80+ is exactly that, its super efficient and runs everything in this rig with no problems. I use this power supply in most of my customer's computers and I couldn't be more satisfied. Great build material too!
- Cons: um...that its not modular? What more do you want from a fantastic 400w power supply? It's a great power supply
- Other Thoughts: To the guy who complained about the 400w power supply he bought for a high-end rig...you really think running whatever Quad core you did not specify with a HD 5870 along with your other components were going to be sufficient? Please don't spend $800+ on high end products and expect a $40 400w power supply to run it all. Please don't just throw your money around..do your homework before you throw blame around...the only one to fault is yourself. CORSAIR is AWESOME!
Look at the size of that thing!
- Pros: Single rail design means it can power things better than PSUs rated much higher. Has 8-pin EPS12V connector like most multicore motherboards want. Runs relatively quietly.
- Cons: The cables are long. I don't mean "Oh, good, I have some slack for cable routing" long. I mean "Gee, what was I thinking putting this bad boy in a mid-tower case?" long. Don't even think about using this in a mini-tower case!
- Other Thoughts: The box says it's "whisper quiet." Well, it's relatively quiet, but certainly louder than a whisper. It seems like it's marketed as a desktop product, but it'd really be more at home in a server.
Watch the rebate timing
- Pros: Efficient 81-83% according to 80 PLUS
Good cable length (I can route the 8 pin CPU connector for good airflow - entirely around my motherboard - in my bottom PSU mount Antec 300 despite more than doubling the required cable length).
Very quiet.
- Cons: Be careful of that rebate - I wanted to make sure everything was okay on my system before I sent it in (in case I needed to RMA anything). However, I waited too long 3 weeks from purchase was too late for the rebate - my other two rebates were still within the timeframe. Download/print the rebate when you purchase to make sure you can still access it, as some rebates only last a week, so by the time the item is delivered, its no longer available online.
- Other Thoughts: Watch the pricing - Newegg likes to vary this one quite a bit the list price of ~65 is more than double what you can pay after a rebate.
