Would this work with a r9 280x or would i need a higher wattage?

This is way more than enough for a 280x. I was running the HX750 with an overclocked Sapphire Vapor X 280x and a 4670k overclocked to 4.3ghz, along with tons of fans (4 x 200mm, 4 x 140mm) and drives (2 x SSD's, 1 HDD and a BluRay drive). I ran that setup for nearly a year and never had an issue. I think the only way you may be pushing the envelope with this PS is if you're running 2 x 280x overclocked, and/or 2 x 280x with an overclocked CPU.

Will this PS work in a bottom mount case?

Yes. This is designed to be mounted in the bottom. It draws air from the computer internals with the top fan and blows this hot air out the back with the side fan. I am using it with the cooler master haf 922 and so far it has been working great.

Will this run a Nvidia Geforce gtx 760 really good??

I'm running an i7 2011 sucker OC'd, a ssd, a hhd, 16gb ram, fan controller, 2 120mm cpu fans, 8 120mm case fans with leds, 1 140mm case fan, a front powered usb/multicard hub, a fan controller, a case accent light, and 2 gtx 660s in SLI. All off this psu, and I am sure I could ssd another few hhds/ssds, and more ram before needing more juice. (Which when I switch to liquid cool I might go up).

Can this power an AMD system? And is it better than the RM series?

Yes it will!  In fact, here's my system specs:

I thought about going 850w because I was planning on adding a 2nd video card, but this PSU handles my current build and will handle a 2nd video card when we get the time and $$$. Its been rock solid with internet downloading, Virtualization, video encoding, and school work ALL at the same time! You won't regret it, plus most of it is modular. Except for the main 12v part, but who cares!  Good luck sir!

I run this rig to Gaming, Virtualization and Media Encoding.  For long periods of time. My video card is driving 3 monitors in eyefinity.  Im mentioning this because the card pulls a little more power in an Eyefinity situation.  I was on the fence on getting the HX850 or AX860 PSU's was thinking about adding another video card down the road. For now, the PSU has been FLAWLESS for long periods of time.  Buy in confidence!

Question 6

Hi, I just pieced together a brand new computer using this PSU.

I put it together last night minus the RAM and ssd (really the m.2 stick). waiting for them to arrive in the next few days.

I decided to turn it on to see if all my fans worked etc. It would turn on for a few seconds, then spontaneously reboot. after the reboot it appeared to stay on for the few minutes i waited to see if it would do it again. Granted, I need to put the system completely together to see whats up but I have read a lot of reviews about this PSU failing and this seems to be the symptoms I am experiencing.

Do you think there is cause for concern?

Can this run a stock out of box MSI R9 290X LIGHTNING?
I'm not planning on Over clocking the card.

According to Tom's Hardware, the peak power draw for the MSI R9 290X LIGHTNING is 425 watts, with an average draw of 258 watts.  That means that the card itself won't put you over (or even really get you close).  This power supply is made to support an SLI setup (two gaming video cards), so one high-end gaming card in a normal machine will not cause you any problems.  If you have a ton of other components that would drastically increase your power draw (like a RAID array with 4 hard drives or something), you may want to actually do the math on the peak power.  Otherwise, you will be fine.

My rig at home has this power supply and I have a GeForce GTX770 (pretty much the same power requirements as the MSI you're talking about) and I have never had any problems.  These are really good power supplies - you are paying for a high-end component and can expect it to perform that way.

How do I know what power I need?

The basic way I calculate needs is by looking at the PCI-E cables with the PSU. This comes with four cables, and can thus be used in moderate dual-graphics setups. Understand that efficiency of a PSU is actually a bell curve, so grossly overrating your PSU costs you money in the form of increased electricity usage. You can also google the graphics card you're planning to use and find reviews where they state the actual power usage of the card. Plan for your setup to use ~70% of the PSU capacity and you're golden.

will the cpu cable be long enough to route behind the mobo and in to the mobo in a phanteks enthoo pro full tower case?

I'm using a Rosewell Thor gamming case and a Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P MB. The cables fit behind the Motherboard case holding plate but I had to pick the shortest route to the MB mating connectors

One of the reviewers mentioned that this PSU isnt stable with Haswell and ASUS. is that true? because I am currently building a new gaming rig and own an i7 4770k cpu. the motherboard I was looking to get was the ASUS Maximus VI Hero.  Thanks

Without knowing the components you are installing on this rig, its difficult to know for sure.  However, Ill give you my system specs and hopefully this will help to answer some of your questions on the availability of this PSU.
