If you're looking for a power supply to feed your hungry system, look no further. The new HX850 PSU from Corsair puts out an impressive 850 watts of power and supports the latest ATX12V v2.3 standards as well as EPS12V 2.91 standards. The unit is 80 PLUS SILVER certified and has a 99% Active Power Factor Correction to ensure maximum efficiency.
The cables are extra long, to work in the largest tower. They are fully sleeved for easy routing and bundling. There are six 8-pin PCIe power connectors so you can build up a CrossFire or SLI system using today’s high end video cards. There are also 12 SATA and 12 Molex connectors so you can connect multiple drives and peripherals.
Keeping it all cool is a temperature-controlled 140mm fan. Air is vented through the hexagon mesh back panel. The universal input accepts voltages from 90V to 264V so you no longer have to worry if the switch was in the right position.
Pros: I purchased this PS based on [H]ardOCP's review and have been very impressed with it. I suggest looking their review (google HardOCP HX850W) and reading it, along with their power supply testing methodology article.
With that out of the way: Corsair's modular cabling system is one of the best that I've dealt with, the flat black cables look good and are easy to route out of the way. The PS is quiet and it runs very cool at moderate loads, and by all indications this thing has some of the tightest voltage regulation and lowest ripple values of any PS in this wattage range. And like most (all?) Corsair PSes, the OEM is Seasonic, which is one of the most highly regarded computer PS manufacturers. There are a few good ~850w units on the market right now, this is one of the-if not THE-best.
Running a Pentium D 820, an Adaptec 31605 16 port RAID card, 8 Hitachi E7K.1000 1TBs in RAID 6 & 2 160GB WDs in RAID 1; peak power draw is about 450w @ the wall without any complaints from the PS.
Cons: Nothing.
Other Thoughts: Consider this: 1. It's legal for manufacturers to take a 250w ps and sell it as a 500 watt unit-even though it'll only do 500w for 2 seconds, inside a freezer, while violating ATX specs for ripple & voltages. This is why you can find "650w" pses for 20 bucks. 2. Ripple control is almost as important as power output. Ripple is small quantities of AC electricity that make it to the DC outputs on the power supply; for instance, your multimeter might show the 12v rail being at 12.02v, but ripple will cause it to fluctuate between say, 12.019 and 12.026v hundreds of times a second-too fast to detect without an oscilloscope. ALL modern PC PSes have some ripple, just due to their design; the key is to get one that keeps it as low as possible-too much can damage everything in your system. How do you avoid that? Buy reputable brands and read reviews that are done properly-with load testers and oscilloscopes-not by putting them in PCs and checking voltages with multimeters.

Pros: One very solid PSU!! Running my i7 920, one HD, 2 optical drives, 5 fans and 2 EVGA GTX 260's in sli. It might be a bit more than I need but I would rather have too much wattage than too little.
Cons: No witty comment here. :)
Other Thoughts: If you are looking for a PSU for you sli setup check Corsairs lineup. They will not let you down.

High Quality 80 PLUS SILVER Power Supply
Reviewed By: Dezzo on 10/2/2009
Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Very well constructed; very quiet fan; runs cool; power cables are long; lots of other cables are included; very excellent price for the quality and wattage; 80 PLUS SILVER certified (read more below on that)
Cons: I can not think of any cons for this PSU.
Other Thoughts: This PSU is 80 PLUS SILVER certified, although it doesn't state that on the box yet, due to Corsair waiting for final approval from the 80 PLUS certification agency before being allowed to officially mark them as certified.
While talking to a Corsair rep, he informed me that the certification agency found that many of these PSU's were actually reaching 80 PLUS GOLD standard, however they would not be certified as Gold due to the fact that some of the PSU's only reached the very high end of Silver specs.
Basically, this is is likely one of the best 80 PLUS SILVER PSU's you can buy for the price and wattage. Do no hesitate to buy this PSU.

CORSAIR Dominates Again

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: This is the most solid PSU i've ever owned. I've used the 850 HX as well as the 750 HX in recent builds and both have been clutch for fitting cables neatly in a mid ATX or micro ATX tower. I understand that Cable Management is an art and can be done even without modular PSUs, however it helps speed up the build and reduce the clutter.
Cons: None

Piece of junk

Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Zero, died just past Newegg return period.
Cons: Came into work, computer off, power supply bricked. Stayed up less than three weeks after installed, but four days past return period. A Corsair 520 ran the same PC fine. No more Corsairs for me.
Other Thoughts: This is not a cheap supply and I've had complete junk run longer than it did. I'm just grateful it didn't take out a grands worth of computer when it went.
Manufacturer Response:Please RMA the HX850 directly to us and we'll replace it. We are sorry you had an issue.
