4 out of 5 eggsGreat psu

This review is from: CORSAIR HX Series HX850 850W ATX12V 2.3 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI CrossFire 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Its an amazing power supply, and definitely is a nice looking one, just like my ax860i, its blue so it matches any blue builds, if your reading the reviews and skeptical about getting this power supply, just go for it, you wont be disappointing in the quality, if you are, return it.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I was skeptical about buying this but am happy I did!

This review is from: CORSAIR HX Series HX850 850W ATX12V 2.3 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI CrossFire 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Clean stable power
Very well made
Every cable you will ever need
7 year warranty
80 plus Gold, Corsair quality.
Quite.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I own this HX 850, a HX 750, HX 650 and a CX500m.. Corsair is the best you can buy, never a problem from any of them.

5 out of 5 eggsEntry-level for modular PSUs

This review is from: CORSAIR HX Series HX850 850W ATX12V 2.3 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI CrossFire 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: -It's a Corsair
-Modular(see cons)
-Quiet

Cons: If you're looking for a true modular power supply then you may have to look elsewhere. As with most modular power supplies the 24-pin cable is not modular which is typically expected, but there are two PCI-E cables that are also not modular which was a bit of a let down. They also stick 4 plugs on the molex and sata cables instead of offering a variety, so you'll be stuck with some excess cable/plugs unless you want to modify the cables. Would have been nice to see 1-, 2-, and 4- plug cables for each type.

This unit is also slightly longer than its TX850 counterpart. Because of this I can no longer run a fan on the bottom fan spot of my case. Not a big deal to me, but this may help someone in deciding if this is a good fit for them.

Other Thoughts: Not a bad power supply at all for the money when it's on sale like it is currently, but if I knew then what I know now I would have spent a little more on a different modular power supply since I prefer not voiding my warranty by modding cables.

1 out of 5 eggsbig pop, then dead

This review is from: CORSAIR HX Series HX850 850W ATX12V 2.3 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI CrossFire 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Modular for most cables and efficient. There was a noticeable drop in my power bill. Easy to get an RMA from Corsair.

Cons: Right at the 4 month mark there was a big pop and it died.
One pair of video card cables is not modular so if you're rocking a small video card or onboard video it's still hanging out there. Probably not something you'd do for a power supply this big, but you could be building for CPU, not Video, and want that.

5 out of 5 eggsOutstanding Power Supllies

This review is from: CORSAIR HX Series HX850 850W ATX12V 2.3 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI CrossFire 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: This my third CORSAIR power supply and I have never been disappointed with their performance or longevity. This is the first in the HX line and I could not be happier. The modular cable design is out standing, no more hiding unused cables. The voltage are rock solid with less than 0.1% sway. You can not go wrong with these power supplies.

Cons: None

1 out of 5 eggs0/5 if I could - Cheese with that coil whine?

This review is from: CORSAIR HX Series HX850 850W ATX12V 2.3 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI CrossFire 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Pros - It functions as expected, powers my gear.

Cons: Cons - Coil whine whenever in any game that is the least bit demanding.

Other Thoughts: Put my build together two weekends ago now. Oct 18-19 and within two weeks this sound pops up. Its something I have only heard/been warned about about and never experienced.

like many other users experiencing this problem, I expected more from a brand like Corsair.

Sound would prevent me from using my computer, thank goodness I have a headset.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,

We're sorry to hear that you're experiencing coil whine in your power supply. If you would like a replacement, please contact us by submitting a ticket at corsair.force.com or calling us at 888-222-4346 and we'll be more than happy to set you up with a new PSU.

1 out of 5 eggsCORSAIR HX Series HX850 850W ATX12V 2.3 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI CrossFire 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

This review is from: CORSAIR HX Series HX850 850W ATX12V 2.3 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI CrossFire 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Easy installation and easy cable management
The power supply was decent to power my whole computer
Ran silently (Read Con section for reason)

Cons: The power supply would have gotten a 4 egg review if it wasn't for this issue. This is my first time buying a corsair power supply and first time i had issue with a power supply. When I got my power supply I installed it immediately and it work fine. I turned on my computer and I checked on it again. This is when I realized that the power supply fan didn't even work. I restarted my computer and the power supply fan didn't turn on. Everything worked fine just the fan was malfunction.

3 out of 5 eggsSounds like a Train Braking

This review is from: CORSAIR HX Series HX850 850W ATX12V 2.3 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI CrossFire 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: It has a powerful +12 rail with plenty of amperage to power any 2 single GPU's with virtually any CPU as well.

Currently only have one 290, but might CF soon with this

Cons: When the fan spins up, and the PSU takes on a power load, the PSU sounds like chirping birds, a scraping chalkboard, a teapot steaming up all at the same time...It overcomes the noise of all 9 fans, my GPU's fans, the CPU fans, and even my PC's speakers...
My PC would be silent if it wouldn't be for this noisy device

Biggest con is that it work perfectly (for now) and I'm scared to RMA and end up getting one that explodes or has other issues...
Expected more from Corsair.
also, have no idea how loud it would be at full load. I'm only using 650W max right now, can't image having 2x 290's with the 850w at full load...

Other Thoughts: I want to RMA, but am scared I will get sent an even worse unit... also have no replacement PSU so...

Sad thing is my friend's CX600 is dead silent and works perfectly...

Corsair Support, if I RMA, will you promise not to send me some refurbbed ticking timebomb of a PSU... I have it powering $1.5k+ in hardware.

I know you read these...

Manufacturer Response:
