1 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: CORSAIR HX series HX650 650W ATX12V v2.2 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Easily installed. Easy wiring.

Cons: When I installed this PSU everything went smooth...until I plugged it into my power unit. It blew my motherboard, I called corsair and sent it back to them with no problem its been about 2 weeks and I still haven't heard from their damage claim department. I'm sure this was just a fluke though I'm just a little upset with the whole situation.once I get everything back I will be updating on how everything works.

5 out of 5 eggsIt may have changed my mind about modular

This review is from: CORSAIR HX series HX650 650W ATX12V v2.2 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: -Perfect history with Corsair Power Supplies
-Quality build, heft & accessories
-Modular cables seem to be the happy balance between too flimsy & too bulky

Cons: None found with this one

Other Thoughts: "I love the smell of new PSUs in the morning." OK, anytime really ;) Seriously, buying a Corsair power supply is never a question in and of itself, but I really debated about modular. My experience with modular has been less than stellar. I have purchased a few in the past, in all cases a known brand that reviewed well. And, in all cases, I had initial or eventual issues with the SATA cables. With two of them, the issue was that one of the SATA connectors on the strand was bad and couldn't be used. Not too hard to work-around, but disappointing since modular power supplies are usually touted as a premium option. The last issue I had with one was that the whole SATA cable (more likely the internal feed) was intermittently failing. It took a fair amount of troubleshooting to determine that it wasn't the hard drive, so you can see why I am apprehensive. Enter the HX650. I do a fair amount of Video Editing and have two main i5 rigs plus another Phenom II X4 that I keep running a fair amount. One i5 has an HX850 (awesome, but a bit overkill for air cooling) the other i5 has an HX750 (maybe a bit more than is needed, but quiet & efficient). This HX650 went into the Phenom II X4 rig that has 4 SATA optical + 4 SATA HDDs, plus some add-on power needs, and it is perfect for that setup. I have been running it hard for several weeks and have had no SATA problems. So, I guess my future rule will be modular only if it is a Corsair. 5 eggs for Corsair goodness and changing my thinking about modular.

5 out of 5 eggsCorsair Quality

This review is from: CORSAIR HX series HX650 650W ATX12V v2.2 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Corsair HX power supplies are rock solid and modular. Nothing else to say.

Cons: Never.

Other Thoughts: It is neat that they come with the fancy cord bag, but I really do not see a use for it. I keep all my cables in the box as it is. I would rather see a price drop and less fancy items like bags and junk.

2 out of 5 eggsDOA...

This review is from: CORSAIR HX series HX650 650W ATX12V v2.2 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Nice sleek design. Very easy to manage the cables and comes with convenient storage pouch for extra cables. Nice LED. (The only reasons it gets a second egg)

Cons: Received a DOA and have had some issues getting a hold of someone for a replacement... Corsair seems to be pretty good in other areas of computers (for instance I'm using a Corsair mechanical keyboard) but from what I see today not so much in PSU's. Likely won't be buying another Corsair PSU.

Other Thoughts: I'm sure I could bump this up to a 4 or even a 5 egg if someone were to get back to me after being on the phone for hours, troubleshooting myself for hours, only to find my brand new product was a DOA. After being told someone would return my call same-day, I sit here box in hand with a dead unit. If the unit came as advertised it's a great bargain, but this makes me nervous about it's longevity.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Hardware, Great Company

This review is from: CORSAIR HX series HX650 650W ATX12V v2.2 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: It has served me solid for a few years now. I started to have a suspected low voltage on one of the leads and contacted their CS. Without hesitation they offered to replace the PSU. And their people were very responsive and very clear and helpful. I would recommend this company and anything they make to anyone and everyone.

Cons: Honestly none.

Other Thoughts: Buy from this company. Memory and PSU. You can't go wrong.

2 out of 5 eggsDefective unit sold

This review is from: CORSAIR HX series HX650 650W ATX12V v2.2 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Others seem to like it. Customer support was fast enough.

Cons: Original unit was defective, and would not work. I issued a RMA, and they sent me a working new one. My one gripe is they refused to pay to ship the defective unit back to them. I would have picked a different unit if I had known I would be paying more in the end.

5 out of 5 eggsQuality+

This review is from: CORSAIR HX series HX650 650W ATX12V v2.2 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: High Quality and care evident throughout. Excellent "fit and finish". Beautiful packaging and presentation. Abundance of connectors and cables. Very quiet, e.g. silent, operation, even with a heavy duty GPU running. Easy installation of a component that will greatly strengthen the reliability and durability of your machine.

Cons: None that I have been able to think of so far. It just works (quietly).

Other Thoughts: It's really true that the satisfaction of true quality lives long after the thought of price has faded. Well worth it. And if you can get it on sale....what's not to like?
